Abstract

Backgrounds : Obesity occurs due to an imbalance between incoming and outgoing energy intake, so excess energy is stored as fat tissue. The prevalence of overweight and obese children in the world in 2010 was 6.7%, increasing to 9.1% in 2020. Frequent consumption of ready-to-eat foods can increase the incidence of obesity. Fast food usually contains large amounts of sodium, saturated fat, and cholesterol. Aims : This systematic review aims to determine the effect of fast food on the incidence of obesity in school children. Method : This study used a systematic review approach. The research data source used scientific journals that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result : Based on nine scientific articles analyzed, seven journals showed that the habitual pattern of fast food consumption can increase the incidence of obesity in children, and two journals showed no effect of fast food consumption on obesity. Conclusion : Fast food consumption patterns in school children occur due to technological developments and cultural changes. Therefore, it is necessary to change behaviour and eating patterns in school children.

Abstract

Background: The relationship between COPD and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is complex, with CKD often overlooked in older populations. The study aims to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and impact of CKD on mortality and renal failure, highlighting the need for comprehensive health care. Methods: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, this systematic review focused exclusively on full-text articles published in English between 2011 and 2024. Result: The study conducted a comprehensive review of over 8,000 publications sourced from reputable databases, including ScienceDirect, SagePub, and PubMed. Following an initial screening, eight publications were identified as warranting more in-depth analysis. Consequently, a thorough review of these selected studies was performed to ensure a detailed and rigorous evaluation. Conclusion: CKD is a significant risk factor for COPD patients, with 15.6% diagnosed aged 40 and older. Common risk factors include advancing age, diabetes, hypertension, elevated BMI, and cigarette smoking. COPD is associated with systemic inflammation, contributing to conditions like diabetes, muscle wasting, and kidney disease. Proactive management approaches are needed to address renal implications.

Abstract

Background: Individuals with prediabetes are at a 50% increased risk of advancing to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Deficient levels of vitamin D are associated with higher risks of insulin resistance and diabetes. Methods: This systematic review adhered to PRISMA 2020 guidelines, focusing exclusively on full-text articles published in English between 2012 and 2024. Result: The review process involved analyzing over 300 publications from the selected databases. After an initial screening, eight studies met the criteria for detailed examination. These studies underwent an in-depth review to ensure a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation of their findings. Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation may offer potential benefits in reducing the risk of T2DM in individuals with prediabetes by enhancing insulin synthesis and sensitivity. However, the overall effectiveness of diabetes prevention is still debated, with recent large-scale trials reporting nonsignificant results. The fat-soluble nature of vitamin D may limit its effectiveness in obese individuals. The American Diabetes Association advocates for further research to explore the potential advantages of combining vitamin D supplementation with lifestyle interventions.

Abstract

Background: Disruptions in gut microbiota compositiosn (dysbiosis) in kidney diseases can lead to worsened kidney function. Dysbiosis may increase intestinal permeability and systemic inflammation, allowing bacterial toxins to enter the bloodstream and exacerbate CKD and its complications. This systematic review aims to evaluate the association of intestinal microbiota and kidney disease by analyzing available studies of the last 10 years. Methods: The study adhered to PRISMA 2020 standards, examining English literature from 2014 to 2024. It excluded editorials, reviews from the same journal, and submissions without a DOI. PubMed, SagePub, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar were utilized as literature sources. Result: Initially retrieving 360 articles from online databases (PubMed, SagePub, SpringerLink and Google Scholar) eight relevant papers were selected after three rounds of screening for full-text analysis. Conclusion: Gut microbiota alterations are closely linked to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD), impacting inflammation and disease progression. Microbial shifts offer potential diagnostic and therapeutic insights, though further research is needed for clinical application.
