Jurnal Ilmiah Perikanan dan Kelautan (JIPK; English: Scientific Journal of Fisheries and Marine) ISSN International Centre | ISSN:2528-0759 (Online) | ISSN: 2085-5842 (Print) JIPK is a peer-reviewed and open access biannually (April and November) that published by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Airlangga. The aim of JIPK is to publish exciting, empirical research, recent science development, and high-quality science that addresses fundamental questions in fisheries and marine. JIPK only accepts manuscripts written in full English and processes submitted original script related of scope to fisheries and marine science and not being published by other publishers. We publish four categories of papers; 1) Original research papers, 2) Critical review articles, 3) Short communications, and, 4) Special Issue on applied or scientific research relevant to freshwater, brackish and marine environments. This journal gives readers the state of art of the theory and its applications of all aspects of fisheries and marine science. The scope of this journal includes, but is not limited to the research results of: Aquaculture, Fish Diseases, Marine science, Oceanography, Aquatic resources management, Fisheries product technology, Fish capture, technology, Fishery agribusiness, Fishery biotechnology/molecular genetics, Fish health management. JIPK has been indexed in Scopus, DOAJ, Sinta 1, Dimensions, Crossref, and others indexing. This journal has been accredited as a 1st Grade Scientific Journal (Sinta 1) by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of Indonesia since 8 December 2020.

Haematococcus protein levels decrease when treated with UV and/or ethanol.   Abstract Haematococcus pluvialis is a single-celled green microalga that is a possible source of bioactive compound. H. pluvialis cultivation mostly employs pro-analysis media, with organic components frequently limited. The use of wastewater from snakehead fish rearing to cultivate H. pluvialis to produce necessary fatty acids and amino acids has never been investigated. Environmental stress-induced physical treatment is likely to boost lipid production. There have been very few investigations on fatty acid composition in lipid synthesis from H. pluvialis cultivated in fish-rearing effluent. The purpose of this work was to assess the potential of snakehead fish wastewater (SFWW) as a culture medium for H. pluvialis, as well as to examine the fatty acid and amino acid properties of the microalga after exposure to UV and ethanol stress during the stationary phase.  The study consisted of two sequential experiments:  optimizing growth to determine the optimal Walne medium supplementation for H. pluvialis growth in SFWW, and inducing stress to assess the effects of ethanol and UV irradiation on H. pluvialis biochemical. The results showed that the SFWW medium supports the growth of H. pluvialis, with addition of 0.75 ml L-1 Walne medium achieving the highest densities (28.13±0.38 ×106 cells mL−1). Ethanol and UV are excellent at inducing stress in H. pluvialis. The maximum lipid percentage was seen in the Ethanol-UV treatment, but this stress also reduced H. pluvialis protein content.  SFWW can be used to cultivate H. pluvialis by supplementing Walne. Further research is needed on treatments that can increase long-chain unsaturated fatty acids.

Results identify institutional fragmentation and limited population data as the primary barriers to sustainable governance.   Abstract Hilsa (Tenualosa ilisha), despite its ecological and socio-economic importance in Labuhanbatu, Indonesia, is experiencing population decline due to overexploitation and habitat degradation, highlighting a critical need for management strategies. This study aims to analyze coastal community perceptions and participation in the management of hilsa fish and to formulate sustainable management strategies using Rational, Analytical, and Holistic Strategic Governance (RAHSG) framework and Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat (SWOT) analysis in Labuhanbatu Regency. The research used a descriptive method with quantitative and qualitative approaches through questionnaires survey of 100 respondents that were selected proportionally. Data were analyzed using the Likert scale and SWOT analysis. The results indicate that community perceptions of the ecological and economic value of hilsa fish are categorized as good to excellent, with more than 80% of respondents supporting conservation policies. The SWOT analysis yielded an internal factor score of 1.04 and an external factor score of 1.25, positioning hilsa management in Quadrant I (Aggressive Strategy). Key strengths identified include established formal regulations and well-known migration routes, while the primary weaknesses are limited population data and weak institutional coordination. This strategic position suggests that current healthy habitat conditions and cross-sector opportunities can be leveraged to mitigate threats from fishing pressure and migration route disruption. The study concludes that an integrated, participatory management approach is essential, focusing on interagency collaboration and the establishment of formal conservation zones. This aggressive strategy should prioritize community empowerment to sustain existing support. Future research should examine the institutional power dynamics and stakeholder cooperative behaviors required to scale this co-management model effectively.

This research underscore vulnerability of the stingless jellyfish populations within Berau Archipelago that warrant effective conservation strategies.   Abstract Kakaban Lake in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, is characterized by unique hydrographic conditions that support distinctive biodiversity. The stingless jellyfish Mastigias sp., one of the lake’s endemic faunas, is hypothesized to have evolved a loss of stinging capability due to prolonged isolation and adaptation within this enclosed ecosystem.  Despite its uniqueness, there is no population genetic baseline data available for this species in Kakaban and nearby Lakes, which could threaten their survivability. This study aimed to provide baseline population genetic diversity and differentiation data for Mastigias sp. population in Berau Archipelago. Samples from individual jellyfish were collected from Kakaban Lake (DKB, N=20) and Kuku Lake, Maratua Island (DKK, N=19). Based on partial fragment of mtDNA 16S rRNA sequences, genetic diversity, genetic differentiation, and demographic history were estimated between two populations. Genetic analysis revealed moderate diversity across both populations (H=10; h=0.487 ± 0.099; π=0.00127 ± 0.00035). Weak and non-significant population differentiation (FST= 0.0012, p>0.05) was observed, alongside a high frequency of shared haplotypes, indicating retained connectivity between the two lakes. However, the presence of population-specific haplotypes in both DKB (6 haplotypes) and DKK (2 haplotypes) suggests evolutionary uniqueness, despite the overall weak genetic structure. Neutrality test consistent with pattern of demographic expansion following past bottleneck (Tajima’s D = -2.039, p<0.05). This study highlights evolutionary uniqueness of these populations, emphasizing the need for effective conservation strategies to ensure the long-term viability of this flagship species.
