Abstract

Occupational health and safety in the informal Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector remains a critical yet under-examined issue in Indonesia. This qualitative case study investigates the determinants of workplace accidents in the Panglong Kayu Kanalom wood-processing industry in Medan, focusing on human and environmental factors. Data were collected through triangulated methods including in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation, with analysis structured using the HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) framework. The findings reveal that 80% of participants did not use personal protective equipment (PPE), and all respondents lacked formal safety training. Unsafe behaviors, habitual risk-taking, and normalization of hazards were prevalent among long-term workers. Environmental risks such as poor ventilation, high noise exposure, disorganized machinery layout, and airborne sawdust were found to significantly impair worker safety and cognitive concentration. The implementation of a participatory WISE (Work Improvement in Small Enterprises) training program demonstrated significant behavioral and knowledge improvements. PPE usage increased from 20% to 73%, and awareness of occupational hazards rose to 88%. The application of the HIRARC matrix proved instrumental in prioritizing risks and achieving quick safety improvements, even within the constraints of informal MSMEs. The study supports the effectiveness of participatory, theory-informed safety interventions and calls for their wider application in similar contexts. These findings offer actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to improve occupational safety in Indonesia’s informal sector.

Abstract

Background: Acne can affect patient confidence and satisfaction with treatment. Topical and systemic therapies, compared to more modern laser therapies, still occur in terms of effectiveness and patient satisfaction. Objective: This study compares the two methods and their impact on patient satisfaction and quality of life. Material and Method: This study compared acne vulgaris patients who underwent topical, systemic, and laser treatments. The efficacy of acne treatments was evaluated using the CADI (Cardiff Acne Disability Index) and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The results showed that laser therapy patients reported significantly higher satisfaction and quality of life than those who underwent conventional treatment. Conclusion: This study shows that laser therapy is more effective than conventional treatments in reducing acne severity, and increasing patient satisfaction, and improving self-esteem. This confirms that laser therapy is a superior treatment option for patients who want faster results with better psychosocial outcomes.

Abstract

The health service industry has a pretty good prospect and future, where currently health services are no longer just focused on treating a disease, but health services have developed and include providing services to the community in efforts to prevent and improve health. There is a decrease in patients due to decreased patient trust in hospital services. The purpose of the research is to find out the analysis of factors that influence public trust in inpatient services at Rantauprapat Hospital. This type of research is analytic observational using a cross sectional study design. The population was patients/families of inpatients at Rantauperapat Hospital with a sampling technique using cluster random sampling totaling 95 respondents. The data used includes primary data and secondary data. Data analysis using the T test and f test. The results of this study indicate that the physical support variable obtained a calculated value = 3.510 with sig = 0.001 <0.05, a sig result of 0.001 <0.05, personal contact obtained a calculated value = 2.420 with a sig = 0.018 <0.05. The results of the Anova statistical test obtained an F value = 62,583 with a sig value = 0.000 <0.05 and there was a simultaneous effect of physical support and personal contact on public trust in the inpatient service of Rantauprapat Hospital. Based on the results, the magnitude of r2 contact personal is 48.01% and physical support is 45.09%, which is obtained from the partial correlation coefficient. This shows that the contact personal variable has a greater influence on public trust in inpatient services at Rantauprapat Hospital compared to the physical support variable. It is suggested to the leadership to evaluate the performance of the services of doctors and other health workers, such as being professional and working in accordance with the SPO so as to increase patient confidence.
