Abstract

This study explores the multifaceted challenges and impacts of tourism management in Taro Village, Bali, with a specific focus on sacred areas such as Gunung Raung Temple and the Lembu Putih Conservation Park. One of the primary challenges identified is the lack of financial incentives for the Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Group) administrators and field officers, which affects their motivation and service delivery. Despite these limitations, the village has established a distinctive revenue model—where Gunung Raung Temple operates on a donation basis, and the Lembu Putih Conservation Park charges admission, with profits reinvested in community development. The sacred areas play a significant role in promoting educational tourism, offering visitors insights into Balinese spiritual traditions and environmental conservation. Traditional ceremonies such as Tegenan, Mepada Agung, and Nyenuk are central to Taro’s cultural identity and spiritual appeal. The study also evaluates the positive and negative impacts of tourism using various theoretical frameworks, including economic, sociocultural, environmental, and ethical tourism. While minor drawbacks exist, the predominant outcomes are positive, including improved environmental management, increased local employment, and strengthened cultural preservation. The findings underscore the importance of community involvement and sustainable tourism practices, aligned with the principles of Community-Based Tourism (CBT), to ensure long-term benefits for both the village and its sacred heritage.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the implementation of the Tri Hita Karana concept in the Mapeed tradition as part of the development of cultural heritage tourism in Pakraman Sukawati Village, Gianyar Regency. Tri Hita Karana, which includes the harmonious relationship between humans and God, humans and fellow humans, and humans and nature, is the basis for implementing the Mapeed tradition. Mapeed is a Balinese tradition of mutual cooperation to care for and clean temples as a form of respect for God, each other and the environment. This research identifies how the Tri Hita Karana principle is applied in Mapeed and its impact on cultural sustainability and the development of cultural heritage-based tourism. The research results show that the implementation of Mapeed, which is based on Tri Hita Karana, not only strengthens social relations between residents, but also plays an important role in preserving Balinese cultural values. On the other hand, Mapeed also has the potential to become a major attraction in the development of cultural heritage tourism in Pakraman Sukawati Village, by attracting tourists who are interested in authentic cultural experiences. This article concludes that Mapeed, which integrates Tri Hita Karana, can be an effective strategy in strengthening sustainable tourism, providing economic and social benefits for local communities, as well as preserving culture and the environment

Abstract

Malang City, as one of the major cities in East Java, has high market potential for the use of online transportation services (online travel). The development of digital technology has driven the increase in the use of online travel booking platforms, where website quality is an important factor in shaping user perceptions and purchasing intentions. Previous research has shown that website quality has a significant effect on perceived flow and user purchasing intentions. Based on these findings, this study aims to analyze the influence of website quality dimensions—including usability, functionality, and security and privacy—on perceived flow and online purchasing intentions among users of travel transportation services in Malang City, and to examine the mediating role of perceived flow in this relationship. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional method. A total of 33 respondents who used online travel transportation services in Malang City were sampled. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire (1–5) to measure website quality, perceived flow, and online purchasing intentions. Analysis was conducted using SPSS, including validity and reliability tests, descriptive analysis, correlation, multiple linear regression, and mediation tests using the Baron & Kenny and Sobel tests. The results showed that website functionality was the most dominant factor that significantly influenced perceived flow and online purchasing intentions. Conversely, website usability, security, and privacy had positive but insignificant effects. Furthermore, perceived flow did not act as a significant mediator. Overall, improving website functionality is a top priority in strengthening the digitalization strategy for online travel services in Malang City

Abstract

This study examines theThis study examines the inequality in the representation of local and foreign culinary practices within Bali’s tourism landscape, focusing on Pererenan Village in Badung Regency. Although Bali has formally committed to cultural-based tourism through Governor Regulation No. 5 of 2020 and Governor Regulation No. 99 of 2018, the integration of Balinese cuisine into tourism experiences remains limited. Using a qualitative descriptive design supported by field observations and netnographic analysis, this research explored restaurant characteristics, menu structures, and visual representations across digital platforms such as Google Maps, TripAdvisor, and Instagram. The findings show that restaurants emphasizing Western, Mediterranean, or fusion concepts dominate the area, while traditional Balinese culinary expressions occupy a marginal position. This situation reveals a symbolic contradiction between Bali’s cultural identity and its tourism economy, where global consumption preferences often outweigh local authenticity. The study concludes that strengthening Balinese culinary identity requires more than the use of local ingredients; it demands cultural narrative development, aesthetic representation, and policy support. Collaboration between government institutions, local entrepreneurs, and cultural actors is essential to ensure that Balinese culinary heritage is sustainably preserved and strategically positioned within the evolving tourism industry. inequality in the representation of local and foreign culinary practices within Bali’s tourism landscape, focusing on Pererenan Village in Badung Regency. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the patterns of ecotourism destination management in Bali through a synthesis of literature published between 2008 and 2025, and to formulate relevant strategies to strengthen sustainable tourism practices. The study is motivated by increasing environmental, social, and cultural pressures associated with tourism growth, necessitating management approaches that ensure a balance between ecological preservation and community well-being. A literature review method was employed by examining 25 scientific articles obtained through Google Scholar. The data were analyzed using a matrix that mapped the theoretical foundations, research contexts, characteristics, methods, and principal findings of each study. The results indicate that sustainable tourism theory and community participation constitute the dominant conceptual frameworks in ecotourism management in Bali. Local values such as Tri Hita Karana are shown to reinforce the integration of human, environmental, and spiritual dimensions within tourism activities. The findings also reveal several recurring challenges, including overtourism, gentrification, environmental degradation, and power asymmetries in governance structures. Furthermore, numerous studies highlight that collaborative governance models, particularly the pentahelix approach enhance the effectiveness of destination management. Based on the literature synthesis, recommended strategies include strengthening community capacity and participation, fostering cross-sectoral collaboration, enforcing regulations grounded in environmental carrying capacity, and integrating local wisdom throughout all stages of management. These strategies are expected to advance ecotourism practices that are equitable, resilient, and sustainable within the Balinese context. Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the influence of spiritual atmosphere and ritual participation on the formation of tourists' sense of place in rural religious tourism destinations in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Employing an explanatory quantitative approach, data were collected through a questionnaire survey of 200 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using SPSS with the Bayesian ANOVA method to measure the strength of evidence for the hypothesis. The results indicate that spiritual atmosphere and ritual participation, both simultaneously and partially, have a significant influence on sense of place. These findings suggest that the stronger the sacred atmosphere and the more active the tourist involvement, the higher their emotional attachment to the destination. This study recommends that destination managers focus on preserving atmospheric authenticity and encouraging active tourist engagement.
