Abstract

In the tafsir tradition, al-ṭayr carries a high spiritual meaning because it is able to show the oneness of Allah. But in a broader context, the word al-ṭayr can refer to human fate, deeds, or responsibilities. This transformation of meaning indicates that birds are not only biological creatures but also spiritual symbols that implicitly describe the journey of human life. But often, humans are caught up in the routine of worldly activities that are far from the ideals taught in the qur’an. This study aims to complement the shortcomings of previous research and to enrich the intellectual treasure by presenting a different perspective on the meaning of al-ṭayr in QS. al-Mulk [67]:19. This article is qualitative research with a library research model. This research uses primary data obtained from the Qur’an and classical and contemporary books of tafsir. While secondary data sources are obtained from reading literature related to the problem. The approach used in this research uses Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. As for the result of the research, the word al-tayr not only reflects physical symbolism but also describes the relationship between human efforts and God’s destiny, which is always tied to the last day.

Abstract

This article attempts to explore contemporary readings of theology. In classical and medieval times, Islamic theology is regarded as a scientific discourse that discusses such metaphysical issues as God, the status of the Quran, eschatology, and other things that include beliefs or principles of faith in Islam with rational arguments. This article as library research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach by exploring primary and secondary sources in the form of textual sources. Employing content analysis approach, this article found that there has been a shift in views on theology in contemporary times. In addition, this article concludes that prophetic social science can become an epistemological and methodological foundation in building transformative and contextual social science. The novelty of this article lies in the fact that prophetic social science is not a normative discourse, but as an integrative epistemological model that eliminates the dichotomy between revelation and reason, between values and facts, and between science and social practice.

Abstract

The development of digital da’wah, particularly Qur’anic interpretation on social media platforms such as Instagram, has provided broad access to Islamic teachings while simultaneously raising serious challenges regarding authenticity and scholarly quality. Moderate figures like Nadirsyah Hosen (@nadirsyahhosen_official) have become prominent in presenting Qur’anic interpretation on Instagram; however, specific studies on the authenticity and quality of his interpretations on this platform remain limited. This study aims to analyze the authenticity and quality of Qur’anic interpretation presented by Nadirsyah Hosen on his Instagram account. This research employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The primary data consist of three selected posts from @nadirsyahhosen_official, chosen purposively and analyzed based on parameters of authenticity (fidelity to authoritative Islamic sources) and quality (methodology, relevance, and argumentation). The findings indicate that Nadirsyah Hosen’s interpretations maintain strong authenticity, as evidenced by consistent references to the Qur’an, hadith, and classical scholars’ views. In terms of quality, his approach predominantly combines maudhu’i (thematic) and contextual methods, articulated through poetic and Sufi-inspired language. Hosen successfully translates classical theological concepts into responses to contemporary digital-age issues, such as the crisis of meaning and challenges to faith arising from social media dynamics. This study concludes that Hosen’s Qur’anic interpretations on Instagram represent a model of digital da’wah that effectively integrates scholarly authenticity with communicative quality, resulting in content that is relevant, aesthetically engaging, and transformative for the digital audience.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly influenced social dynamics, particularly the institution of marriage among the millennial generation. This study aims to examine the marriage crisis in the digital era through a netnography approach on TikTok, a popular social media platform among millennials. The netnographic method was employed to analyze content, interactions, and narratives about marital issues shared by TikTok users. Findings reveal that digitalization has brought significant changes in communication, expectations, and conflict resolution among spouses, often leading to crises and divorces. Social media also functions as a public space that expands discourse on marriage issues but may exacerbate problems due to the spread of inaccurate information. This study assesses the relevance of these findings to family law in Indonesia, especially concerning the protection of the rights of spouses and children in the context of modern marriage. The study recommends updating family law policies to be more responsive to challenges in the digital era to ensure healthy and fair marital continuity. Therefore, this research contributes valuable insights to family law studies and the social dynamics of digital millennials.

Abstract

This paper discusses the dynamics of political Islam in the Southeast Asian region, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia. Both countries have similar historical records of political Islam, but they appear to have moved in different directions after the arrival of colonialism and into the modern contemporary era. A comparative method was used as a research analysis method to find the similarities and differences between political Islam in the two countries. Moreover, a historical approach is used as a tool to examine the historical record of the dynamism of political Islam in both countries. Through this method and approach, the author finds three similarities: Indonesia and Malaysia both adhere to a hadārithe substance of Islamic values rather than the formalisation of Islam, and strive to create a civilised Muslim society (Madani Society and Islam Haḍāri). Meanwhile, the differences are the use of the word ‘Islam’ as a symbol in the state constitution and the involvement of the government and non-government actors in the Islam ic political movement. In Malaysia, Islamic politics is dominated by the government elite, while in Indonesia, it tends to be dominated by Islamic mass organizations.

Abstract

This study examines the dialectic between Islam and local culture in Indonesia through Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory to explain how the interaction between religion and tradition produces a contextual form of religiosity. Using a qualitative approach with content analysis, this research explores ethnographic texts, Islamic documents, and local cultural practices such as kenduri, Haji Bawakareng, baayun maulid, barapen, and the Minangkabau philosophy of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah. The data were interpreted to identify forms of social, symbolic, and cultural mediation in the internalization of Islamic values. The findings show that Islam Nusantara represents an active dialectical process that creates a communal zone of proximal development where religion and culture interact productively in shaping social consciousness. Theoretically, the study extends Vygotsky’s framework by demonstrating that symbolic mediation functions not only in individual cognition but also in collective religious construction. The results affirm Islam Nusantara as a reflective and moderate model of Islam that adapts to modernity, engages with cultural plurality, and strengthens social cohesion within Indonesian society.

Abstract

Widespread nepotism within student organizations, particularly PMII, has become a serious ethical and structural challenge, threatening the principles of meritocracy and internal justice. This phenomenon has become increasingly prominent as it has been critically highlighted through digital platforms that demand a theological-normative response and transformative solutions. Therefore, this study aims to integrate a thematic interpretation of the principles of justice in the Qur’ān with an analysis of the framing patterns of the issue of nepotism by a specific digital account; @a.nande_, to formulate an adaptive socio-meritocratic resolution. This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research framework, applying inductive Waṣfī ‘Āshūr Maqāṣid analysis to complement the ‘framing solution’ of anti-nepotism values (ḥifẓ al-kifāyah), as well as Robert M. Entman’s framing model analysis to dissect the construction of public opinion. The results of the study show that the discourse on nepotism in PMII is strongly framed in the digital space by emphasizing Diagnosis Causes and Moral Evaluation, which is normatively contrary to the distributive justice of the Qur’ān. This study concludes that resolving the problem of nepotism requires strengthening a transparent meritocracy system and utilizing social media as an instrument of moral policing and a catalyst for organizational reform.
