Abstract

Physical education, sport, and health (PJOK) learning in Indonesian senior high schools continues to face the problem of declining student interest in physical activity, particularly when instruction relies on repetitive, conventional drills rather than engaging game-based media. This study addresses that gap by developing Football Bounce, a modified game that adapts the ball-bouncing principle of sepak takraw to a badminton-court configuration, as a creative and inclusive medium for PJOK learning. This research and development (RD) study used the ADDIE model, comprising Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data were collected through validation questionnaires completed by a game/product expert and a learning expert, and through a response questionnaire administered to 30 twelfth-grade students following a small-scale field trial. Data were analyzed descriptively using a four-point Likert scale converted into eligibility percentages. The game expert rated the product 88.63% (strongly agree) at the initial validation stage and 88.68% after revision; the learning expert rated it 80.76% initially and 93.3% after revision; and the student trial produced a total response score of 88.41%, all within the “strongly agree/very feasible” category. These findings indicate that the Football Bounce game model is valid, practical, and effective as a physical education learning medium capable of enhancing students’ motivation, fitness, and fundamental game skills, and that it offers a novel, low-cost, badminton-court-based alternative for wider community use.

Abstract

This study is a Research and Development (RD) study developed using the ADDIE model, comprising five stages: (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation, and (5) Evaluation. Direct-instruction teaching of short-distance running at SD Negeri 16 Telaga Biru has produced low student interest, limited active participation, and underdeveloped starting, acceleration, and coordination technique, representing a clear pedagogical gap that this study addresses by embedding sprint training within a competitive relay-game structure. This research aimed to develop and evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a Running Speed game model for teaching athletics to elementary school students. Data were collected through expert validation questionnaires (learning experts and game experts) and a pretest-posttest field trial involving fourth-grade students. Expert validation indicated that the product falls into the “feasible to highly feasible” category in terms of material suitability, movement-activity appropriateness, safety, and clarity of instructions. Field implementation produced a significant positive impact on students’ cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning outcomes. The novelty of this study lies in its systematic integration of relay-based competitive play with the technical demands of short-distance running (start, acceleration, and sprint) within a validated ADDIE development cycle evaluated across three learning domains simultaneously. These findings support confidence that the Running Speed model is a feasible and empirically effective alternative for athletics instruction in resource-limited elementary schools.

Abstract

Physical education classes at the elementary level frequently teach relay running through teacher-led demonstration alone, leaving students with limited opportunity to discuss and internalize the concepts of baton exchange, starting technique, and teamwork that the event requires. This classroom action research aimed to improve fifth-grade students' learning and knowledge of relay running at SDN 14 Kwandang by implementing the Talking Stick learning model. The subjects were 27 fifth-grade students (18 boys and 9 girls). Data were collected across a pre-cycle baseline observation, Cycle I, and Cycle II, covering three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The mean student score was 52.49 (“Poor” category) at pre-cycle baseline, rose to 68.72 (“Fair” category) after Cycle I, and reached 83.33 (“Good” category) after Cycle II. Based on the two action cycles conducted, it is concluded that the Talking Stick learning model improves fifth-grade students' knowledge of relay running, with improvement occurring across all three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor.

Abstract

Reluctance and initiative are psychological dispositions that shape whether physical education teachers commit to the additional workload of preparing students for inter-school sports competitions, yet no validated instrument has previously captured these constructs among female physical education teachers, particularly in under-researched settings such as Maysan Governorate, Iraq, where women's school sport still struggles for institutional support. This study aimed to construct and validate a Reluctance Scale and an Initiative (reluctance-to-participate) Scale for female physical education teachers and to examine the relationship between the two constructs. A descriptive survey design with purposive sampling was used. An exploratory study involving 16 teachers (9 for the reluctance scale, 7 for the initiative scale) preceded a main study of 77 teachers (47 and 30, respectively), drawn from a research population of 93 physical education teachers in Maysan Governorate. The reluctance scale was built around four axes—self-confidence, optimism, positive thinking, and control/domination (32 items)—while the initiative scale comprised 20 items. Content validity ratios from a 13-member expert panel ranged from 84.6% to 100%, and Cronbach's alpha reached .913 (reluctance) and .903 (initiative). Teachers reported high self-confidence, optimism, positive thinking, and control, alongside a low tendency to withdraw from competitions, and all four axes correlated significantly and inversely with reluctance to participate. The scales are the first psychometrically validated tools for measuring reluctance and initiative among physical education teachers, with clear potential for extension to educators generally, supporting confident adoption in future research and professional development.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the contribution of leg muscle power and balance to soccer passing ability in players of SSB Banteng Muda Duminanga. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was used. The independent variables were leg muscle power (X1) and balance (X2), while the dependent variable was soccer passing performance (Y). The population consisted of 42 players, with a sample of 30 selected through purposive sampling based on training participation. Instruments included the standing broad jump test for leg muscle power, the stork stand test for balance, and the passing and stopping test for passing ability. The results showed that: (1) leg muscle power correlated with passing performance (r = 0.62) with a contribution of 39.32%; (2) balance correlated with passing performance (r = 0.75) contributing 56.79%; and (3) combined, leg muscle power and balance had a very strong relationship with passing performance (r = 0.99) with a contribution of 99.83%. These findings indicate that leg muscle power and balance are crucial physical condition factors for enhancing soccer passing ability. Coaches and trainers should prioritize developing both attributes in training programs to optimize players’ passing performance
