Abstract

Background: This study is motivated by the lack of empirical data on the physical condition profile of pencak silat students as a basis for developing structured training programs, particularly at the regional level. Objective: This study aims to analyze the physical condition of Pencak Silat PSHT students in Gorontalo Regency. Method: A quantitative descriptive method with a survey approach was used. The subjects were 30 male students aged 15–18 years selected through purposive sampling. Instruments included the Multistage Fitness Test (bleep test) for cardiovascular endurance and the push-up test for arm muscle strength. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in percentages. Results: The findings showed that 60% of students were in the good category, 30% moderate, and 10% poor for endurance. For arm strength, 50% were good, 40% moderate, and 10% poor. Conclusion and Implications: Overall, the physical condition of PSHT students is generally in the good category, with some individual variation. These results can serve as a basis for designing structured and data-driven training programs.

Abstract

Youth sports, particularly football, play a significant role in promoting both physical fitness and psychological well-being among young individuals. This study aims to examine the integration of physical activity and mental well-being within youth football training programs using a qualitative descriptive approach based on a review of peer-reviewed international journals published between 2021 and 2025. The findings indicate that structured football training not only improves physical attributes such as endurance, strength, and coordination but also enhances emotional regulation, self-confidence, and social interaction among youth athletes. In addition, the incorporation of psychological components, including goal setting, intrinsic motivation, and mindfulness practices, has been shown to increase athlete engagement while reducing stress, anxiety, and burnout. The study further emphasizes the importance of adopting athlete-centered coaching approaches that prioritize enjoyment, personal development, and mental resilience alongside performance outcomes. The integration of physical and psychological training is therefore essential in creating a balanced and sustainable sports environment for young athletes. In conclusion, embedding mental well-being into football training provides a comprehensive framework for developing healthier, more adaptive, and resilient youth athletes, offering important implications for coaches, educators, and policymakers in designing effective youth sports programs.

Abstract

Background: forehand stroke is a fundamental technique in table tennis; however, initial observations of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Gorontalo revealed their ability toperform this technique was still low. Of the 30 students participating in the learning process, only 13 students (43%) demonstrated adequate proficiency, while 17 students (57%) were still unable to perform the technique correctly. Objective: This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes in performing forehand strokes through the use of wall media in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning. Method: This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles involving 30 eighth-grade students (15 male and 15 female). The procedures included planning, action implementation, observation, evaluation, and reflection in each cycle. Results: The findings showed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes. In cycle I, 19 students (70%) achieved learning mastery, while 11 students (30%) had not yet achieved mastery. In cycle II, the improvement became more significant, with 27 students (90%) achieving mastery and only 3 students (10%) remaining incomplete. Conclusion: These results indicate that the use of wall media in table tennis learning effectively improves students’ forehand stroke skills and helps achieve the classical mastery criterion 80%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and describe the anxiety levels of karate athletes at the National Talented Athlete Development Center (SPOBNAS) Gorontalo before competing. Anxiety is a psychological factor that can affect an athlete's performance in competitive sports, especially in karate, which demands physical, technical, tactical, and mental readiness. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach to gain an in-depth understanding of the psychological conditions of athletes before competition. The subjects were 5 active karate athletes at SPOBNAS Gorontalo. Data collection was conducted through the Sport Competitive Anxiety Test (SCAT) questionnaire to determine initial anxiety levels, followed by interviews to explore the athletes' experiences and feelings in more detail. Interviews also aimed to strengthen the research results to make them more comprehensive. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that most athletes had moderate anxiety levels, with 60% in the moderate category and 40% in the low category. These findings indicate that athletes' anxiety before competition is still within normal limits and is not dominated by high anxiety. Therefore, athletes are advised to participate in structured mental training to maintain psychological stability and improve their readiness for competition.

Abstract

The development of passing skill in youth soccer requires feedback that is specific, timely, and easy for players to understand. Grassroots soccer schools often rely primarily on verbal correction, whereas low-cost video-based feedback models that combine visual review, technique rubrics, and weekly monitoring remain insufficiently examined in applied Indonesian youth contexts. This pilot quasi-experimental study examined changes in passing accuracy, technical execution, test completion time, and learning motivation after a six-week smartphone-based video feedback program among 30 soccer school players aged 12-15 years. The intervention consisted of video recording from side and rear angles, brief coach feedback, individual reflection, and corrected passing drills. Passing accuracy increased from 59.34 ± 4.78% to 67.28 ± 7.55%, technique scores increased from 62.70 ± 6.37 to 72.90 ± 8.98, completion time decreased from 57.28 ± 3.90 s to 53.01 ± 5.68 s, and motivation scores increased from 3.22 ± 0.57 to 3.65 ± 0.75. Paired-sample tests showed statistically significant pre-post changes with moderate-to-large standardized effects. Because the study used a one-group design, the findings should be interpreted as preliminary associations rather than definitive causal evidence. The main contribution of this study is a practical feedback cycle that integrates smartphone video, an observable technique rubric, and short reflective targets for youth soccer coaching.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the dominance of teacher-centered approaches in physical education, which often result in low student engagement and limited opportunities for active participation. The purpose of this research was to analyze the effectiveness of the Student-Centered Learning (SCL) approach in improving the quality of physical education learning at Candipari Elementary School, Porong, Sidoarjo. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design involving one physical education teacher and students who participated directly in the learning process. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to ensure systematic interpretation of the findings. The results indicate that the implementation of SCL increased student participation, learning enthusiasm, motor skills, and social interaction during physical education activities. Improvements were also identified in affective aspects, including discipline, responsibility, and sportsmanship. Although several challenges were encountered, particularly limited facilities and varying levels of teacher readiness, the approach remained effective in creating a more active and meaningful learning environment. The novelty of this study lies in its theoretical contribution: it extends constructivist accounts of SCL by demonstrating that student agency and meaning-making can be sustained even when material resources are constrained, showing that teacher facilitation skill, rather than facility adequacy, is the primary condition enabling active knowledge construction. This context, an elementary school with limited educational resources and diverse student abilities, has received limited attention in previous physical education research. The findings suggest that SCL can serve as an innovative and adaptable strategy for enhancing the quality of physical education learning in resource-constrained elementary schools
