Abstract

This research investigated the effect of sow parity on piglet growth performance during the lactation period in smallholder pig farms in Gunung Nona, Ambon. Fifteen sows representing parity 1, 2, and 3 were monitored from farrowing to weaning (~35 days). Observed variables included birth weight, weaning weight, average daily gain (ADG), mortality, and production efficiency. Results indicated that parity-2 sows produced piglets with the highest birth and weaning weights and the greatest mean ADG (0.15 kg/day), while pre-weaning mortality remained low (1.94%). Statistical testing revealed significant differences among parities for ADG. These findings suggest that mid-parity sows offer optimal physiological conditions for lactation in smallholder systems. Management recommendations include implementing parity-specific feeding and lactation strategies to improve productivity and efficiency.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the population structure and role of breeders in breeding free-range chickens in Nusaniwe District, especially in several villages, namely Amahusu Village, Airlouw Hamlet, and Latuhalat Village. This research uses a survey method with data collection techniques through questionnaires and interviews, which aims to obtain primary data regarding respondent characteristics, technical knowledge, motivation and level of participation. The results of the research show that the total population of free-range chickens reached 2,055 chickens, dominated by pullets and adult females, thus providing great potential for increasing productivity. Utilization is not optimal because the rearing system is still traditional, seed selection is not standardized, and feed management and biosecurity have not been implemented consistently. The role of breeders shows variations between regions, with Airlouw and Latuhalat having higher levels of knowledge, motivation and participation than Amahusu. These findings confirm that breeding success is not only determined by population availability, but also by human resource capacity. Increasing skills and access to education are important steps to strengthen a productive and sustainable free-range chicken breeding system.

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the impact of Phonska fertilizer application on the vegetative development and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays Saccharata Sturt.). The research activities were carried out in Waesamu Village, West Seram Regency during the period from May to July, employing a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with various dosage levels of Phonska fertilizer as treatment factors. Observation parameters included plant height measurements, leaf quantity, stem diameter measurements, leaf surface area, weight of husked ears, weight of dehusked ears, ear length measurements, ear diameter measurements, number of rows per ear, number of kernels per ear, and harvest index. Data analysis was performed through analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at 5% significance level. Research findings indicated that Phonska fertilizer application had a significant impact on both the vegetative growth phase and production output of sweet corn. The optimal Phonska fertilizer dosage [400 kg/ha] yielded the best performance across all growth and production parameters, demonstrated by increased ear mass and higher yield per hectare compared to other treatments. In conclusion, the application of Phonska fertilizer at the appropriate dosage proved effective in enhancing sweet corn productivity and can be recommended for cultivation practices of this crop.

Abstract

This study examines the phenotypic diversity of White Meranti (Anthoshorea montigena) leaves in Seram Island by analyzing leaf morphology across four sites: Honitetu, Latu, Haya, and Masihulan. The research aims to identify similarities in leaf characteristics among locations and to evaluate the influence of environmental factors on phenotypic variation. A purposive sampling survey was conducted, with both quantitative and qualitative data analyzed using ANOVA and regression. Results revealed significant variation in leaf area, primary vein length, and number of secondary veins. Environmental factors contributed differently at each site: light intensity affected 32.54% of leaf area in Honitetu, air humidity 30.86% in Latu, soil fertility 51.98% in Haya, and humidity 22.41% in Masihulan. The phenogram indicated 85% similarity between Honitetu and Latu, 80% with Haya, and greater divergence with Masihulan. These findings provide valuable insights for future breeding and conservation of White Meranti (Anthoshorea montigena).

Abstract

This study aims to examine the potential and ecological dominance of kenari (Canarium indicicum) in Morella Village and to analyze the environmental factors influencing its growth. The research employed a vegetation analysis method using 25 plots measuring 20 × 20 m. Parameters observed included density, frequency, dominance, and Importance Value Index (IVI), along with measurements of soil pH, air temperature, humidity, and light intensity. The results show that C. indicum is the most dominant species with an IVI of 169.43, significantly higher than nutmeg (48.79) and clove (33.35). This indicates the strong ecological role of kenari as a key species within the local vegetation structure. Environmental conditions such as slightly acidic to neutral soil pH, temperatures of 27–28 °C, and high humidity support its growth. The presence of individuals across various growth stages reflects a stable regeneration pattern. The study concludes that kenari has high ecological and economic potential in Morella Village. Community-based management through agroforestry and consistent environmental monitoring are recommended to support sustainable productivity and ecosystem conservation.

Abstract

The management of customary forests is a strategic approach to integrating local knowledge and community traditions into natural resource management. Customary forests are not only essential for environmental sustainability but also hold significant social and cultural value for local communities. This study aims to examine the development of social forestry programs, analyze the level of community participation, and identify factors influencing community participation in the management of the Hukurila Customary Forest, Sirimau District, Ambon City. The research was conducted in October 2025 using a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach. Data were collected through structured interviews with 30 households, key informants including customary leaders, village officials, and officers from the Social Forestry Agency, and analyzed using a Likert scale. The results indicate that the social forestry program has been implemented through the provision of Economic Productive Tools, particularly for sugar palm fruit (kolang-kaling) processing and the development of Bang Pesona, contributing to local economic improvement. The levels of community understanding and participation were categorized as high, especially during the planning and implementation stages, while participation in decision-making and evaluation remained moderate. Key supporting factors include the role of customary leaders, community knowledge, and trust in managing institutions, whereas limited economic incentives remain a major constraint.
