Abstract

Nursing students in their early stages often face academic pressure and psychosocial transitions that can impact their mental health. This study aims to identify the relationship between self-esteem and depression levels among first-year nursing students in Jakarta. A quantitative correlational research method with a cross-sectional approach was used, involving 106 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used include the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) to measure self-esteem and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) to assess depression levels. Data analysis was conducted using Spearman's test and chi-square. The results showed a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and depression (ρ = -0.875; p < 0.001), indicating that lower self-esteem is associated with higher levels of depression. These findings emphasize the importance of psychosocial interventions focused on enhancing self-esteem as a preventive measure for depression among nursing students. The study contributes to the development of mental health promotion strategies in nursing higher education. The implications suggest the need to integrate promotive and preventive approaches into the curriculum and counseling services to detect early depression risks and strengthen students' self-esteem from the outset. Group-based interventions and coping skills training can enhance the psychological well-being of students.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS remains a public health problem in Indonesia due to its serious impact on the health of mothers and infants. The prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV can be carried out through the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) program. However, the interest of pregnant women in participating in HIV testing within the PMTCT program is still relatively low. This condition is partly influenced by a lack of family support. Family support includes emotional, informational, instrumental, and appraisal support, which play an important role in helping pregnant women make appropriate health-related decisions. This study aims to examine the relationship between family support and the interest of pregnant women in participating in PMTCT. The study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 125 pregnant women selected using purposive sampling according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using questionnaires on family support and pregnant women’s interest, which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using Spearman’s correlation test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had good family support (75.2%) and a high interest in participating in PMTCT (78.4%). Spearman’s rho test indicated a significant relationship between family support and pregnant women’s interest in PMTCT, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.308 and p < 0.0001. This study demonstrates the role of family in increasing pregnant women’s interest in PMTCT.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common diseases worldwide. Its treatment does not rely solely on medical therapy but also requires patients’ ability to perform effective self-management. This study aimed to identify factors associated with self-management among individuals with hypertension. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed. Purposive sampling was used, resulting in 93 respondents based on G*Power calculations, including individuals with blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg or <140/90 mmHg with a history of hypertension. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the chi-square test, while multivariate analysis used logistic regression. The results of the chi-square test showed significant relationships between self-management and duration of illness (p=0.011), level of knowledge (p=0.009), and social support (p=0.021). In contrast, age (p=0.218) and education level (p=0.346) were not significantly associated with self-management. Logistic regression analysis indicated that duration of illness (p=0.009; Exp(B)=4.467) and social support (p=0.006; Exp(B)=2.835) were significant factors influencing hypertension self-management. This study concludes that duration of illness, knowledge, and social support are related to hypertension self-management, whereas age and education are not. Community health workers are encouraged to involve families, social environment and develop structured self-management-focused health education programs. Further research using observational methods and additional variables is recommended.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition that affects the body's systemic balance, including digestive function and sleep quality. Constipation and poor sleep quality often occur concurrently; however, local studies highlighting their association remain limited. The primary objective of this study is to examine the relationship between sleep quality and constipation in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 93 chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients were selected using purposive sampling. Instruments used to assess sleep quality included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while constipation symptoms were evaluated using the Patient Assessment of Constipation Symptoms (PAC-SYM) questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate approaches, with the chi-square test applied for statistical significance. The results showed that the majority of patients experienced poor sleep quality (84.9%) and constipation symptoms (53.8%). The chi-square test yielded a p-value <0.001, indicating a significant association between sleep quality and constipation. Poor sleep quality was significantly correlated with an increased incidence of constipation among CKD patients. These findings support the importance of a holistic approach in nursing care, emphasizing sleep quality as a potential risk factor for constipation.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in pregnant women, especially HIV, Hepatitis B, and syphilis, are a strategic public health issue because they increase the risk of vertical transmission. As part of the national plan for maternal and child health, the Indonesian government is implementing the Triple Elimination Program to stop mother-to-child transmission. However, the widespread lack of local data still poses a barrier to assessing program success at the regional level. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the prevalence of PMS in pregnant women in Sukoharjo Regency and to help evaluate how the Triple Elimination program is implemented at the community health center level. This study uses a descriptive observational design with total sampling of all pregnant women undergoing STI screening from January to December 2024. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency and percentage statistics. Consistent with national trends, the research findings indicate that Hepatitis B is more common than HIV and Syphilis. The results show that strengthening prenatal screening, increasing public awareness, and improving healthcare worker capacity are very important. This study is unique because it provides empirical evidence based on local data. This helps expand the literature and build maternal health policies at the local level.

Abstract

Adherence to antihypertensive medication is a key determinant of successful blood pressure control and the prevention of cardiovascular complications. However, empirical evidence indicates that medication adherence among patients with hypertension remains suboptimal. Therefore, a comprehensive and theory-based approach is required to better understand the factors influencing adherence behavior. This study aimed to map and synthesize scientific evidence on factors influencing adherence to antihypertensive medication based on the Health Promotion Model (HPM). This study employed a systematic scoping review design following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines. Relevant articles published between 2020 and 2025 were systematically selected according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings revealed that key HPM constructs significantly associated with adherence to antihypertensive medication included perceived benefits, self-efficacy, perceived barriers, and interpersonal influences. Among these constructs, perceived benefits and self-efficacy were the most consistently and strongly reported determinants across the reviewed studies. The Health Promotion Model is a relevant and applicable theoretical framework for understanding and improving adherence to antihypertensive medication through promotive and preventive nursing interventions.

Abstract

Patients undergoing surgery often experience pre-anesthesia anxiety and pain, which can affect their physical and psychological readiness as well as the smoothness of the anesthesia process. This condition is still commonly found in regional hospitals, so there is a need for non-pharmacological interventions that are easy to implement, effective, and safe. This study aims to evaluate the effect of Virtual Reality (VR) therapy on anxiety and pain levels in pre-anesthesia patients at Dr. R. Goeteng Taroenadibrata Hospital in Purbalingga. The research design used was a quantitative quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest approach and a control group. The sample consisted of 50 pre-anesthesia patients divided into two groups: an intervention group and a control group, each with 25 respondents. Anxiety levels were measured using the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS), while pain was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test to see the differences before and after the intervention in each group, as well as the Mann–Whitney test to compare the differences between groups with a significance level of p < 0.05.  The results showed a significant decrease in anxiety and pain levels in the intervention group after VR therapy, as well as a significant difference between the intervention and control groups. This study concluded that VR therapy is effective in reducing anxiety and pain in pre-anesthesia patients and can be implemented in regional hospitals.

Abstract

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by complex clinical pathways that significantly impact both physical and psychological domains. Effective SLE management necessitates the integration of self-resilience into clinical practice as a strategic tool for healthcare providers in hospitals and long-term care settings to mitigate emotional distress. This article aims to review and analyze the mechanisms of self-resilience in SLE patients and its practical utility for healthcare professionals. Methods a literature review was conducted using PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Garuda databases for the 2021–2026 period. This timeframe was selected to capture post-pandemic patient management dynamics relevant to contemporary digital healthcare advancements. Inclusion criteria comprised quantitative and qualitative studies with robust methodologies, including cross-sectional or experimental designs and representative sample sizes. Findings indicate that self-resilience dynamically enhances quality of life through adaptive coping mechanisms that reframe perceived threats into challenges. Furthermore, self-management strengthens patient self-efficacy, while social support serves as a critical buffer against physical stressors. Resilience is a vital component of holistic care. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to adopt psychosocial approaches, utilizing validated instruments such as the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) for routine screening. The implementation of community-based support groups and psychoeducational interventions is essential to bolster patient adaptation capacity in both clinical and independent settings

Abstract

Caring attitudes form the core of nursing practice, fostering therapeutic relationships and enhancing care quality. Holistic nursing care encompasses patients' physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. The research location was chosen because of the diverse characteristics of the patients. A preliminary study on July 7, 2025, using observation and interviews, found variations in patient perceptions of nurse caring, particularly in communication and emotional support. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nurses' caring attitudes and the implementation of holistic nursing care among inpatients. It employed a quantitative cross-sectional design with purposive sampling (n=90 respondents based on inclusion criteria). Instruments: CBI-24 and HCQAS-P questionnaires (adapted without modification; validity 0.69–0.78 and 0.446-0.799, p<0.01). Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test (p<0.05). Most respondents were male (58.9%), aged 60 years (42.2%), elementary-educated (41.1%), and private sector workers (95.6%). Caring attitudes were rated high by 73.3%, and holistic nursing care implementation was good by 76.7%. A significant relationship was found (p=0.001). These findings align with prior studies, emphasizing the need for ongoing caring training and hospital policy support in regional hospitals.

Abstract

Anemia is one of the major global he~alth problems and a primary conce~rn in developing countries, particularly in Indonesia. An estimated one-third of the world’s population experiences anemia, with adolescent girls representing one of the most vulnerable group.  One non-pharmacological way to treat anemia is by increasing the intake of foods high in iron, such as red spinach. Red spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L.) contains iron, vitamin C, and antioxidants that play a role in increasing hemoglobin formation. This study aims to analyze the effect of red spinach pudding on increasing hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest. The sample consisted of 26 respondents selected total sampling technique,  normal data was obtained that used the paired simple t-test analysis. The results showed a highly significant difference between hemoglobin levels before and after the administration of red spinach pudding, with p value = 0.000 (< 0.05), a mean difference of 1.42, and a Standard Deviation (SD) difference of 0.69.  The study findings that red spinach pudding effectively increases hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls and may serve as a promising nutritional intervention for the prevention and management of anemia in this population
