Abstract

Regional general hospitals, as the first line of healthcare services, still face the challenge of high patient mortality and morbidity rates. Efforts to reduce these rates can be achieved through the implementation of the Team Medical Emergency (TME) and Code Blue systems as early detection mechanisms and rapid response to emergency situations. This study aims to determine the implementation of TME and Code Blue at Dr. Soedirman Regional General Hospital, Kebumen. The research method used a case study design with secondary data collected from May 2022 to February 2023. Data were analyzed to determine the distribution of TME and Code Blue activations based on case type, gender, and service unit. The results showed that TME and Code Blue activations were most common in patients with internal medicine cases, male patients, and in adult inpatient wards. These findings indicate that the implementation of the TME and Code Blue systems is significantly influenced by factors such as case type, patient characteristics, and treatment location. The general implications of this study are the need to optimize healthcare worker training, strengthen early detection systems, and continuously evaluate TME and Code Blue implementation to reduce mortality and morbidity in regional hospitals.

Abstract

Antenatal Care (ANC) is an essential health service during pregnancy that aims to detect risks early and maintain the health of the mother and fetus. Although the government has set a minimum standard of six ANC visits, the realization at the Sipatana Health Center in 2023 is still low, with K4 coverage of 34.8% and K6 only 30.5%. This indicates the low level of compliance of pregnant women in making ANC visits. Health cadres have an important role in increasing compliance through education and assistance. This study aims to examine the relationship between the role of health cadres and compliance with ANC visits. The approach used is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 50 health cadres selected through total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires that has gone through validity and reliability tests and documentation of medical records, then analyzed using the Chi-Square Test of Independence. The results showed that 46% of cadres played a less role and 26% were very less, and 60% of pregnant women were not compliant with ANC visits. There is a significant relationship between the role of health cadres and the level of compliance of pregnant women (p = 0.033  OR = 4,09). Conclusion: The role of cadres has a significant effect on compliance with ANC visits. Strengthening the capacity of cadres is very necessary to increase service coverage.

Abstract

Obesity is a global health problem with increasing prevalence. One behavioral factor contributing to the risk of obesity in adolescents is the consumption of sugary drinks. The 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data shows that 61.27% of the population aged ≥3 years consumed sugary drinks more than once a day, 30.22% consumed them 1–6 times per week, and only 8.51% consumed them less than three times per month. This study aims to describe the consumption patterns of sweetened drinks in obese adolescents. The study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 70 obese adolescents selected through a total sampling method according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a respondent characteristics questionnaire and the Beverage Intake Questionnaire (BEVQ-15), then analyzed univariately. The results showed that of the 70 respondents, 38 (54.3%) were male and 32 (45.7%) were female. The majority of respondents aged 14 (58.6%), and 53 (75.7%) reported high levels of sweetened beverage consumption. High frequency and volume of consumption contribute to increased daily calorie intake, a risk factor for obesity. Awareness-raising and control efforts regarding sweetened beverage consumption are needed as a strategy for obesity prevention from adolescence..

Abstract

Breakfast is the first meal consumed in the morning before starting activities, usually before 10 a.m. Breakfast plays an important role because it provides 20-35% of the calories needed by the body to carry out daily activities. In addition to providing energy, breakfast can also improve concentration, memory, and information processing speed. Glucose obtained from breakfast supports nervous system activity, mood, and cognitive function. Cognitive function is very important in the process of learning, thinking, and decision making, and is greatly influenced by breakfast intake. Physiologically, the brain needs glucose as its main source of energy, and breakfast helps restore energy supplies after fasting overnight. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational and cross-sectional design, involving 40 eighth-grade students with total sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires, digit symbol tests (DST), and observations. The results of the analysis using the Spearman rho test showed a positive relationship between breakfast and learning concentration, with a value of r = 0.521 and a value of p = 0.001. This study is expected to contribute to education and health policies, including education on the importance of breakfast to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the leading Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) causing cardiovascular complications in Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of hypertension management through early detection, health education, and hypertension exercise interventions. A pre-experimental design was used with a community nursing care approach. The intervention included early detection and hypertension education for 55 residents, as well as hypertension exercise involving 15 residents, with blood pressure measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using bivariate analysis. Results showed that early detection identified a prevalence of 49.1% of respondents as severely overweight, 29.1% with grade 2 hypertension, and 9.1% with blood glucose levels >200 mg/dL. Unhealthy lifestyle habits included high sodium intake (69.1%), sugar (60%), fat (45.5%), while only 25.5% consumed vegetables and fruits adequately, 52.7% had low physical activity, and 10.9% were smokers. Hypertension education significantly increased knowledge scores from 5.33 to 7.69 (p = 0.000), and hypertension exercise significantly reduced systolic blood pressure from 129.47 mmHg to 122.73 mmHg (p = 0.000), and diastolic pressure from 83.53 mmHg to 81.13 mmHg (p = 0.027). Hypertension management through early detection, education, and exercise proved effective in increasing knowledge and reducing blood pressure among residents.

Abstract

Efforts to improve the quality of life for patients with congestive heart failure can be made through the Six Minute Walk Test (6MWT) physical exercise. This study explores the role of 6MWT, which is not only used as an assessment tool but also as a structured exercise intervention that can help improve the quality of life of heart failure patients. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of 6MWT physical exercise on the quality of life of patients with congestive heart failure. The study design used is quantitative with a descriptive approach, involving 36 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. The variables studied include 6MWT physical exercise measured by the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) implemented at RS Arifin Achmad in Riau Province, and the quality of life of patients measured using the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLHFQ). The results showed that the majority of respondents were in the pre-elderly age group (52.8%), male (63.9%), had a high school education (44.4%), and most were unemployed (41.7%). All patients underwent 6MWT physical exercise according to the SOP (100%). The quality of life of the patients was mostly categorized as moderate (86.1%) and poor (13.9%). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the application of 6MWT physical exercise according to SOP has the potential to improve the quality of life of patients with congestive heart failure.

Abstract

Childhood obesity remains a growing public health problem worldwide, including in Indonesia. One of the contributing factors is the increased consumption of fast food among children. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and the incidence of obesity among elementary school children as an effort to provide scientific evidence for obesity prevention at an early age. This research used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach involving 70 children aged 7–12 years from selected through purposive sampling due to the high prevalence of fast food consumption and early findings showing an increase in obesity cases in the area. Data were collected using questionnaires on fast food consumption and measurements of body mass index (BMI) as an indicator of nutritional status. The chi-square test revealed a significant relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and the incidence of obesity (p < 0.05). Although fast food consumption was found to contribute to obesity, other factors such as genetic predisposition, physical activity level, and social environmental influences may also play a role and should be considered in future studies. The findings highlight the importance of promoting nutritional education for children and parents, implementing school-based interventions, and regulating the availability of fast food around the school environment as preventive measures to control childhood obesity.

Abstract

Blood glucose instability is a variation in blood glucose levels that rise or fall from the normal range. Signs and symptoms that may appear include polyphagia, polydipsia, polyuria, drowsiness, dizziness, coordination disorders, and low or high blood glucose levels. Benson relaxation therapy is one non-pharmacological intervention that has been proven effective in helping to control blood glucose levels. This study aims to determine the application of Benson relaxation therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with blood glucose level instability nursing problems. Methods: This study used a case study with a nursing care approach on two respondents with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results: Before the intervention, both patients complained of frequent thirst, frequent urination, and frequent hunger. After the Benson relaxation therapy intervention was conducted routinely for 7 consecutive days, with each session lasting 10-15 minutes, there was a decrease in blood glucose levels in both respondents. Conclusion: This study found that Benson relaxation therapy is effective as a complementary intervention to help stabilise blood glucose levels while improving patients' psychological well-being.

Abstract

Language development is an important aspect of the golden period of child development, yet limited parental knowledge and inadequate stimulation may hinder optimal progress. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of education using animated videos and booklets in improving parents’ knowledge of language development stimulation in preschool-aged children. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test. The sample consisted of 120 parents divided into an intervention group (n=60) and a control group (n=60). The intervention group received a 10-minute animated video and a booklet, while the control group received a leaflet. All materials were delivered once via WhatsApp and studied independently with unrestricted access for review. The instrument used was a 15-item questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge in both groups, with a greater improvement in the intervention group (7.63 to 12.10) compared to the control group (7.52 to 8.90). Independent t-test analysis indicated a significant difference between groups (p = 0.001). The study concludes that animated videos and booklets are more effective than leaflets in enhancing parental knowledge. These findings support the utilization of accessible digital media as a sustainable strategy in educational programs at posyandu, early childhood education centers, and parenting trainings.
