Abstract

The Indonesian film Kang Mak, directed by Herwin Novianto, effectively utilizes camera angle techniques to support the narrative and depict emotional dynamics as well as local culture. This article aims to analyze the application of various camera angle techniques, including close-up, low angle, high angle, and wide shot, in enhancing characterization, conflict, and cultural themes presented in the film. The close-up technique is used to highlight the characters' emotions, while low and high angles strategically depict dominance, power, and vulnerability of the main characters. Additionally, the use of wide shots allows the audience to appreciate the beauty of local culture and the social setting that shapes the story. This study demonstrates how cinematographic techniques, particularly camera angles, can enrich the film's narrative, deepen character development, and reinforce cultural messages. The analysis provides insights into the significance of cinematography in creating an authentic and emotional visual experience in contemporary Indonesian cinema.

Abstract

The film The Big 4 by Timo Tjahjanto highlights the expertise in utilizing camera movement techniques that effectively support visual storytelling. This study aims to analyze various camera movement techniques, such as tracking shots, panning, and handheld shots, as well as how the combination of these techniques contributes to building the narrative, atmosphere, and emotion in the film. Through a qualitative approach using literature review, the study reveals that tracking shots are used to maintain visual continuity and enhance the intensity of action scenes, while panning helps frame the environment and provide spatial orientation to the audience. Additionally, the use of handheld shots heightens tension and realism, particularly in close combat scenes. The combination of these techniques creates a dynamic and complex visual narrative, which becomes an essential element in establishing the rhythm and mood of the story. This study concludes that the success of cinematography in The Big 4 not only delivers an engaging visual experience but also deepens the audience's emotional involvement with the characters and story. This analysis is relevant to understanding the role of cinematography in narrative development and provides insights for Indonesian filmmakers to enhance the visual and narrative quality of films.

Abstract

Learning dance for deaf children faces unique challenges due to their hearing limitations in understanding rhythm and movement. To overcome this, an exploration-based approach and direct experience are needed. This study aims to analyze the implementation of dance learning for deaf children using the Project Based Learning model at SLB Negeri Tamansari, Tasikmalaya City to improve understanding of dance concepts, movement understanding, rhythm coordination, teamwork, and responses to learning using a scientific approach with five main steps, namely observing, asking, reasoning, trying, communicating. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The subjects of the study were deaf students who took part in dance learning, from movement exploration to the final performance. This model allows them to learn actively, build understanding through direct practice, and develop creativity in performing dance. The results of the study showed that the implementation of Project Based Learning succeeded in improving the dance skills of deaf students. The use of hand clapping instructions and teacher types made it easier to understand rhythm. Repeated practice helps them adjust their movements to the tempo, while the performance increases their confidence and expression.

Abstract

Finding out about the attempts to conserve Gong Sibunguik in Kebun Durian Village, Gunung Sahilan District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, is the aim of the author's research. The three components of preservation are (1) protection, (2) development, and (3) exploitation, according to Sedyawati (2008: 152). Descriptive analysis using a qualitative approach is the strategy employed in this study. In this study, observational data collecting, interviews, and documentation were employed as data gathering methods. The study's findings indicate that measures to prevent the loss or destruction of cultural objects are part of its protection efforts. This can take the shape of records that serve as inspiration and a source of reference while digesting the performing arts. Increasing the number of musical instruments and Gong Sibunguik musician groups is one way to quantify this development endeavor. Efforts to improve the quality of Gong Sibunguik art are made by producing new music while preserving the traditional aspects of the art form. The purpose of this invention is to support traditional arts. Efforts to use it, namely Gong Sibunguik, are still made today, which is the same as modern arts, since Gong Sibunguik is an art form that is required for this event; without it, the event cannot take place as it does not adhere to local cultural standards. Furthermore, in Kebun Durian Village, Gong Sibunguik is typically present for circumcision ceremonies, marriages, greeting niniak mamak, and ba inai-inai. Gong sibunguik is typically done before the party's preparation (pre-party) at wedding celebrations.

Mencari Robung is a bilingual story written in Indonesian and Melayu, carrying themes of nature and the environment, with the goal of introducing character values and cultural insights to children. The method used in this illustration creation is digital drawing in a cartoon style using Adobe Photoshop CC 2019. The creative process involves several stages, including literature study, script analysis, initial sketches, coloring, and finalizing the illustrations. The resulting illustrations are expected to effectively communicate the story’s content in a clear, engaging, and easily understandable manner for children. The outcome of this creation is a picture book with high-quality illustrations at a resolution of 300 dpi, which not only enhances the visual appeal but also serves as an effective educational medium. Furthermore, this research is expected to serve as a reference for artists, writers, and academics in developing children's book illustrations that support literacy and character education.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' understanding and skills in the makeup and costume of the Gambyong Pareanom dance through the application of the modelling method assisted by audio-visual media. The research subjects were 35 students of class X SP 5 at SMK Negeri 8 Surakarta for the 2024/2025 academic year. The research was conducted in three cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The learning method involved the use of videos, live demonstrations, group discussions, and independent practice. The results showed significant improvement in each cycle. In the pre-action stage, only 40% of students felt helped by the method and 68% lacked self-confidence. In Cycle I, 55% felt helped and 60% began to show better understanding. In Cycle II, with more interactive media, 72% of students felt helped and 68% reached the minimum passing grade (KKM). In Cycle III, 88% of students found the method very effective, 85% achieved the KKM, and 83% showed improved confidence. These findings prove that the modelling method using audio-visual media is effective in enhancing conceptual understanding, technical skills, and student confidence. The study recommends broader application of this method in vocational school skill-based learning to create a more engaging, contextual, and relevant learning experience aligned with workforce demands and cultural preservation.
