Abstract

Salatiga, a small city in Central Java Province with a population of 192,322 in 2020, faces significant social, economic, and health challenges due to overcrowding, namely stunting. This study examines the role of public relations in Salatiga city government in disseminating information related to the “Convergence Action” program, a government initiative aimed at reducing stunting, a health problem exacerbated by high population density. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the public relations of Salatiga City Government has an important role in fostering relationships, supporting management, and building the city's corporate image through social media. However, there are barriers to coordination, such as delays in disseminating materials for publication, which reduce active community participation and potentially slow down the reduction of the number of stunting. These barriers reduce the effectiveness of the stunting program's information dissemination and may interfere with achieving the program's objectives, highlighting the need for better communication strategies to increase community engagement and program success.

Abstract

This study focuses on the efforts to brand Salatiga as a Gastronomy City through Government Relations) communication strategies. Salatiga, with its rich cultural and culinary heritage, has significant potential to become a gastronomy city. However, various challenges, such as a lack of coordination among stakeholders and insufficient promotion, hinder the achievement of this goal. The Salatiga City Government seeks to overcome these obstacles through programs that involve multiple parties, but issues such as inconsistent messaging and limited supporting facilities remain. This research aims to analyze the communication strategies used in branding Salatiga as a Gastronomy City and to provide recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of Government Relations in local tourism development. The research method used is qualitative, involving interviews with the Public Relations team of the Salatiga City Government. The findings indicate that Salatiga's branding strategy is still weak and inconsistent. The Salatiga City Government is expected to maximize the city's gastronomic potential and increase public awareness of Salatiga's branding as a Gastronomy City.

Abstract

The Ngapak Banyumasa language culture is a form of identity for the Banyumas people which covers the western part of Central Java, consisting of Banjarnegara, Purbalingga, Banyumas and Cilacap. This discovery is based on content creators from the TikTok platform named @raflychaniag0 and @Desy Genoveva, both accounts create TikTok content using the Ngapak language. The aims of this research are (1) to find out how popular the Ngapak language is on TikTok, (2) to find out the differences between the two accounts in creating content in the Ngapak language, (3) to find out how TikTok video viewers respond to the creator's content. use the Ngapak language as their content material. The results of this research show that (1) TikTok content that uses the Ngapak language is a creative idea and is able to attract many viewers because the content contains elements of humor and extensive new information, from here the Banyumasan Ngapak language can be known by outsiders from the people of Banyumas, (2) The difference between these two accounts is in the way they convey the message, with the @raflychaniag0 account, the characteristic is humor or jokes which in the Ngapak language are pronounced firmly, openly and spontaneous, while with the @Desy Genoveva account, the content is more interactive with the audience by inviting other TikTok users to share Ngapak vocabulary in their respective areas. (3) The response in the comments column shows that the TikTok audience for both content These creators felt entertained, they became more aware of the Ngapak language vocabulary and some of them followed suit using the language styles used by content creators.

Abstract

Cross-cultural communication refers to the process of interaction between individuals or groups from different cultural backgrounds, aimed at fostering mutual understanding. In the era of globalization, this ability has become increasingly essential to support international collaboration, build harmonious relationships, and overcome barriers caused by differences in language, values, and social norms. This article explores the fundamental concepts of cross-cultural communication, key challenges such as language barriers and stereotypes, and strategies to enhance its effectiveness. Research highlights that high-context and low-context cultures exhibit distinct communication patterns, requiring adjustments in message delivery. Cross-cultural education, the development of active listening skills, and the use of cultural mediators are strategic measures to address these challenges. Moreover, effective cross-cultural communication contributes to increased innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity across various sectors, particularly in business and education. By understanding the dynamics of diverse cultures, individuals and organizations can create more harmonious and productive interactions. This article emphasizes that cross-cultural communication is a critical skill for navigating the complexities of an increasingly interconnected global world.

Abstract

Language plays a crucial role in intercultural communication, which occurs when individuals from different cultural backgrounds interact. Deddy Mulyana explains that cultural differences allow the message receiver to interpret information according to their understanding. Language, as an organized communication tool, not only conveys thoughts and feelings but also serves as a means of social integration and social control. Through language, individuals can express themselves, adapt to their social environment, and influence the attitudes and behaviors of others. Furthermore, understanding cross-cultural communication has become increasingly important in the era of globalization, where interactions between cultures are intensifying. This understanding includes knowledge of one’s own culture and other cultures, as well as awareness of the similarities and differences between them. By comprehending cross-cultural communication, individuals can establish better and more harmonious relationships and develop a tolerant attitude toward differences. Theories of intercultural interaction and communication emphasize the importance of factors such as actions, settings, actors, intermediaries, and goals in the communication process. Therefore, language functions not only as a communication tool but also as a bridge to understand and appreciate the cultural diversity present in society.

Abstract

The advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) through social media has significantly transformed the way people interact. Social media facilitates communication for personal, social, and professional purposes, with Indonesia ranking 10th in average daily social media usage at 197 minutes per day. However, this convenience also presents challenges related to communication ethics. Ethical communication on social media is crucial to ensure interactions respect social and moral values and do not harm others. Key challenges in applying communication ethics include the spread of misinformation, hate speech, privacy violations, and disregard for social norms. This study aims to analyze the ethical challenges in communication through social media and offer solutions to address them. The research uses a literature review method with an analytical approach to relevant sources. The findings are expected to contribute to creating a more positive and responsible digital communication space.

Abstract

The preservation of the tahlil tradition among young people through the IPNU-IPPNU organization in Puring District is an important effort to maintain a long-standing religious tradition in the community. Tahlil, which consists of the recitation of "laa ilaaha illallah," salawat, tasbih, and Qur'anic verses, followed by a prayer for the deceased, holds high spiritual and social value. However, with the changing times, this tradition faces challenges, especially in terms of youth participation. The IPNU-IPPNU organization, as a student-based platform, plays a key role in teaching and involving young people in tahlil activities, ensuring that these cultural values remain alive and relevant. This study aims to explore the role of IPNU-IPPNU in preserving the tahlil tradition among the youth in Puring District. The research uses a qualitative method with a field study approach, involving observation and interviews with the IPNU-IPPNU leadership and members. The results are expected to provide insights into effective strategies for engaging youth in the preservation of the tahlil tradition.

Abstract

Formal public speaking is not only dependent on good speaking skills but also on effective listening strategies and building empathy with the audience. An effective listening strategy enables speakers to understand audience responses, adjust message delivery, and create more interactive communication. Meanwhile, empathy helps strengthen the connection between speakers and audiences by understanding their backgrounds, needs, and expectations. By combining these two strategies, speakers can enhance audience engagement, clarify delivered messages, and establish a more conducive environment for effective communication. This study employs a qualitative method with a literat ure review approach to analyze the role of listening strategies and empathy in formal public speaking. The findings indicate that listening skills and empathy are key elements in creating more engaging, interactive, and impactful communication.

Abstract

Literature is the expression of thoughts, feelings, and emotions conveyed by the author, resulting in a work that contains elements of beauty. The aim of this study is to explore the Sufistic values in the novel "Penggallah Kepalamu dan Persembahkan pada Mursyidmu" and to examine the critical discourse within the novel. This research is a type of library research, con ducted by collecting data from books, encyclopedias, and other sources deemed relevant to the theme, and falls under the category of text studies. It seeks to identify theories and concepts that serve as the theoretical foundation and help build the theore tical framework for the researcher in analyzing Sufistic values in the novel: a semiotic analysis of "Penggallah Kepalamu dan Persembahkan pada Mursyidmu" by Maya Safira Muchtar. The novel illustrates the presence of numerous symbols and signs whose meanings must be interpreted through semiotic analysis. It narrates the story of a student’s complete self- surrender alongside Anand Krishna, the spiritual guide (mursyid). Maya Safira Muchtar, who spiritually transforms into "Archana" or a sacred offering, undergoes a profound transformation in her life. From a fragile young woman burdened for years by the trauma of sexual abuse at the age of twelve, she evolves into an independent, creative, and compassionate individual. From someone who once harbored anger tow ard God and even despised religion, she becomes someone who is full of faith and capable of feeling divine love.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the declining number of listeners of Madu FM Radio, especially among the digital generation, who began to switch from analog radio to digital platforms such as podcasts and streaming music. This change in media consumption patterns encourages Madu FM Radio to adapt to the needs and communication patterns of listeners in order to remain relevant and maintain audience loyalty. Theoretically, this research refers to Harold Lasswell's Communication Model and the concept of 7C's of Communication from Cutlip and Center (2006) to understand effective communication patterns and radio broadcast patterns, especially related to aspects of credibility, context, message content, clarity, continuity and consistency, communication channels, and audience capacity. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods to answer research questions related to communication patterns and broadcast patterns of Madu FM Radio in attracting and maintaining listeners' interest. Informants were selected using purposive sampling technique, consisting of broadcasters, content team, and active listeners of Madu FM Radio. Data collection techniques included observation of broadcast and content patterns, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies of broadcast data and listener interaction patterns. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the communication patterns and broadcast patterns of Radio Madu FM are in line with the concept of the 7C's of Communication and are reinforced by the theme of communication.
