International Research Journal of Business Studies (IRJBS) comprises three constructs. The word “International” refers to our mission to provide readers with relevant fields of study and to involve authors in giving their contributions on an international scale. ”Research Journal” refers to our aim to function as a medium to disseminate research findings regardless of methodological differences. ”Business Studies” refers to the boundary of the fields of studies that we serve i.e. encompassing all disciplines and paradigms related to the studies of any facet of the business. Aim The primary objective of IRJBS is to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the area of business studies by presenting the results of an empirical study, including rigorous research methods, and providing managerial implications to the readers. Scope The IRJBS welcomes manuscripts in business management, which include the areas of strategic management, marketing management, finance management, organization, human resources management, and operations management. Starting Volume 13, Number 2 (2020), IRJBS publishes high-quality articles/papers using rigorous research with questions, evidence, and conclusions that are related to corporate management studies and recent trends that are relevant to business management scholars and business practitioners. More specifically, the IRJBS seeks to publish papers that ask and help to answer important and interesting questions in managing the corporation, develop and/or test theory, replicate prior studies, explore interesting phenomena, review and synthesize existing research, and evaluate the many methodologies used in the corporate management field. We welcome manuscripts in corporations within one geographic and/or across the geographic and business spectrum which include but are not limited to corporate strategy, corporate governance, corporate organization, and human capital, corporate finance, corporate marketing, and the operations aspect of the corporation. We appreciate a diverse range of research methods and are open to papers that rely on statistical inference, qualitative data, verbal theory, computational models, and mathematical models

Abstract

Employees retention is one of the core challenges faced by many organizations today especially in the corporate sectors of the economy. In this research, a conceptual model was developed and applied in the context of the faculty retention policy of a private university in Bangladesh. The study was conducted primarily to evaluate the current human resource retention practices of the university from the faculties’ point of view. The research identified the core elements of human resource practices, which strongly influence the decision of faculty members to remain in the organization. The result shows that university culture and policies, working environment, teamwork relationship and challenging opportunities are significantly related with the faculty retention policies practiced by the university.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the relations between culture and communities. The interesting cultural aspects of organizations are, as we have seen, not what is unique for a single organization, but deeper and broader patterns that to some extent are part of a more general business, industrial, or community culture. Understanding of cultural manifestations in organizations, even those that are dominant and broadly shared on the local level, is that it makes us realize the management’s influence is, after all, restricted. National culture, class culture, and the cultures of professional and occupational communities put strong imprints on organization. An important additional factor, not often addressed in either research or theorizing, that may help explain the variation in the communal nature of organizations over time and across locales are the social values and norms that get embedded in particular theories and perspectives about people and organizations, perspectives that do not simply take place but that are promulgated by interest groups with particular agendas and beliefs.

Abstract

Nowadays, food industries face a lot of challenges and problems at the same time, as business competition is very tough. People’s compsumtion life style changes, and raw food material becomes scarce; therefore, PT XYZ, which is a family business company, has to struggle to survive and grow. In fact, innovation becomes one of the most important factors that leads companies to win the competition. PT XYZ, therefore, has to keep on innovating its production process and products. Being innovative means that PT XYZ has to apply learning culture as it encourages knowledge management (KM). In other words, the learning culture will support the KM activities, which eventually will result in high corporate performance. This article discusses to which extent PT XYZ has adopted learning culture reflected on the seven dimensions of Learning Organization. A quantitative analysis was used to identify current learning culture, and a qualitative approach was used to explain the role of knowledge management in the learning culture. In addition to it, activirties which are related to innovation, knowledge management and corporate performance are described.

Abstract

In order to create a sustainable competitive advantage, companies nowadays should offer a superior customer value. One way in achieving this is by understanding their stakeholders and building a long-term relationship with them. This paper is intended to map the stakeholders of Company A (a telecommunication company) using the “six-market-model”. Furthermore one form of a long term relationship, i.e. alliance, is thoroughly analyzed and predicted. The alliance of Company A and Bank X is studied as a case in this research. Analysis shows that this kind of relationship, the alliance, has the potential in giving mutual benefit for each party involved. It could also serve as a source to enhance the company’s competitive advantage. This alliance is predicted to be successful in the long term for three reasons: because it is strongly supported by full commitment of senior management; because it has high alliance competences; and because it has idiosyncratic resources.

Abstract

This article presents an overview of the strategic orientation and performance of the cooperative alliances entered into by Malaysian companies in Asia Pacific.. A questionnaire survey to 433 companies was conducted to study the operations of their strategic alliances in Asia Pacific.. A total of 182 companies or 42.0% responded to the survey. It reveals that the companies are mostly local market oriented, and their success is closely associated with three factors; working relationships with partners, difficulties in partnering agreements, and difficulties arising from environment and cultural differences. The three factors above are important regardless of the varying objectives, motives and opinions concerning the benefits and governance of the alliances. In addition to filling a gap in the literature, the study can also serve as a useful reference for Malaysian companies assessing business opportunities in Asia Pacific, which may be actively searching for potential alliance partners and also for foreign companies in seeking business partnership in Malaysia.

Abstract

The establishment of Measurement Equivalence/Invariance (ME/I) is a logical prerequisite to conducting substantive cross-groups comparisons, for example tests of group mean differences, invariance of structural parameter estimates. In agreement with this argument, this paper aims to (1) demonstrate the stages to establish ME/I test, (2) provide an example of ME/I application on customer satisfaction survey across three groups of consumer, (3) demonstrate the steps should be carried out if the measurement were not perceived equivalently by respondents. Conclusions and future research directions are presented.

Abstract

This article is a conceptual and typological framework that delineates the subsidiary role and its influence on the MNC strategy. The purpose of this study is two fold. First we want to formulate proposition for testing the relationship between the network embeddedness, resource dependence and subsidiary influence on the corporate strategy. Secondly we want to suggest a typology for determination of the specific characteristics of subsidiaries that are simply implementors of HQ assigned strategy, have a global subsidiary mandates or are somewhere in between. Finally the article suggests direction for future research.

Abstract

This research examined the influence of bargaining power and absorptive capacity on value appropriation, appropriated relational rent and inbound spillover rent in IJV. The main objective of this study is to find out variable in appropriated relational rent and inbound spillover rent which can be appopiate by local partner. This research is applying both qualitative (explorative) and quantitative research. The explorative study was conducted by indepth interview with Board of Director (BOD0 and General Manager of local partner in automotive industry. We use descriptive analysis and Structural Equation Model (SEM) in our qualitative research. The result of this study shows that value appropriation both appropriated relational rent and inbound spillover rent could only be achieved by local partners through the improvement of absorptive capacity. On the other hand, bargaining power which is normally held via control has no significant relation with appropriate performance.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of income smoothing to the market reaction with the good corporate governance mechanism and corporate social Responsibility disclosure as a moderating variable. The proxy of good corporate governance mechanism are institutional ownership, managerial ownership, independency of board commisioner and the size of board commisioner. Regression analysis of 30 public companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange on year 2008 until 2009 through a purposive random sampling technique indicated that income smoothing has negative effect to the market reaction. This study shows that good corporate governance mechanism is not the moderating variables to the relationship between income smoothing and the market reaction. The study also shows that corporate social responsibility disclosure is not moderating variables to the relationship between income smoothing and the market reaction, but as independent predictor for market reaction.
