Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of students’ learning outcomes on reaction rate by applying the cooperative learning model type TSTS (two stay-two stray) in class XI SMA Negeri 1 Banawa Tengah. The type of research was quasi-experimental (quasi-experimental research) with a nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design. This study was conducted on two classes, namely class XI IPA 1 as an experimental (n= 32) and class XI IPA 2 as the control class (n= 32). Analysis data used the two-party t-test statistical with the prerequisite test, namely normality and homogeneity test. The results showed that the learning outcomes of students in the experimental class X̅1was 76.93 with a standard deviation = 8.62 while in the control class X̅2 was 72.06 with a standard deviation= 8.53. The results of hypothesis testing obtained – ttable≤ tcount + ttable which was -1.67 <3.25> +1.67 with a significant level (α= 0.05) and degrees of freedom = 62. This showed that H0 was rejected and H1was accepted it can be concluded that there is an effect of the application of the two stay-two stray (TSTS) type cooperative learning model on the reaction rate to the students’ learning outcomes of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Banawa Tengah.

Abstract

Candlenut shell (Aleurites moluccana Willd) is a waste produced from processing candlenut plants with a fairly hard texture. The use of candlenut shells as fertilizer, especially in Central Sulawesi, has not been done so much. The aim of this study was to determine the levels of calcium (Ca) and potassium (K) in candlenut shells. Calcium and potassium levels were determined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results show that the average calcium level in the candlenut shell is 0.315 ± 0.09%, while the average potassium level is 0.090 ± 0.01%. The results of Ca and K in candlenut shell are expected to be used as raw material for fertilizer production.

Abstract

The topic of buffer has connections between concepts and some prerequisite materials that students should understand to be able to facilitate this material. The lack of mastery on the material will lower the learning outcomes. This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes on buffer through the implementation of advance organizer learning model based on numbered heads together (NHT). This study was one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this study was students of 11th grade Science at SMAN 2 Balaesang consisting of class XI Science 1 as the experiment class 1 with 33 students and class XI Science 2 as the experiment class 2 with 32 students. The effectiveness of the implementation of advance organizer learning model NHT-based can be seen from the average N-gain value of the experimental classes. The average N-gain value of experimental class 1 was 0.69 included in the medium category. While the average N-gain value of experimental class 2 was 0.71 included in the high category. Data analysis showed that the average value of students learning scores was greater than 65, where for the experimental class 1 was 76.36 and the experimental class 2 was 76.71. The advance organizer learning model NHT-based improved learning outcomes of students in 11th grade Science on buffer at SMAN 2 Balaesang.

Abstract

Aloe vera gel is one of the plants that can be used as a natural coagulant. The chemical content in aloe vera has similarities to the cactus with the presence of mucilage or gel which can be used to purify water. This study aimed to determine the ability of aloe vera gel as a natural coagulant for water purification of Kawatuna water source and to determine the optimum volume of aloe vera gel. The steps of the study were preparing water sample, preparing aloe vera gel, coagulating of water, and analyzing parameters of water qualities i.e hardness, turbidity, color, temperature, pH, and total dissolved solids (TDS). The results showed that aloe vera gel was able to be used as a natural coagulant to purify water with the optimum ratio of 1 mL of aloe vera gel in 500 mL of the water sample. Aloe vera gel reduced turbidity, hardness, and color by 58.33, 15.45, and 50.36%, respectively, with a pH of 4.1, temperatures at 30 oC, and TDS of 77.51%. This study concluded that aloe vera gel able to be used as a coagulant to purify water.

Abstract

This paper is motivated by the challenges of chemistry class during the online learning period in developing students’ chemical literacy skills that were found during internship two by the author at a school in North Sulawesi at Senior High School. Based on these activities, it is known that the limitations of students in understanding chemical materials and concepts during online learning pose as a challenge for teachers to carry out the chemistry lessons long distanced. This paper aims to review the development of students’ literacy skills through inquiry-based learning. This paper also aims to examine the implications of chemical literacy in helping Christian teachers guide students to God's wisdom through inquiry-based chemistry’s online learning. The results from this study showed that the chemical literacy skills of students in the school where the author carried out field experience program two activities showed positive results; however, it was not comprehensive. Furthermore, chemical literacy helped Christian teachers observe students’ development in understanding chemical concepts and their relevance to biblical principles. This study concluded that honing chemical literacy skills through inquiry-based online learning can help students be more active in obtaining information. Good chemical literacy skills will help students make decisions based on problems that are always based on biblical principles. The author of this study suggests examining strategies in addition to inquiry-based learning, which can improve student’s chemical literacy skills, especially in online chemistry learning.

Abstract

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.) is a local natural resource used by the Dawan tribe as an alternative for mosquito repellent. The utilization of these plants cannot be separated from the content of compounds found in these plants. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the content of bioactive compounds from lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.). This research method includes sample preparation, isolation and identification of compounds, and antioxidant activity analysis. The results of this study that there were three main components of citronella oil, namely geraniol, citronellol, and citronellal, with a higher percentage of geraniol, namely 18.82%. The compounds contained in lemongrass oil have a weak antioxidant activity with IC50 681.48 mg/mL.

Abstract

A simple analyte separation through an in-situ volatilization system in a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) container was carried out for boric acid analysis in a food product by spectrophotometry. Separation was conducted in two teflon containers divided into the reagents compartment (outer vessel) and sample compartment (inner vessel). System optimization was done by varying the curcumin content and ethanol: water ratio. The optimum condition of the volatilization system was achieved at a curcumin concentration of 0.1% and ethanol: water ratio of 3:1. LOD and LOQ measurements, respectively, gave a value of 0.0413 mg/L and 0.1088 mg/L. The established method was used to determine boric acid content in sausage products by UV-Vis Spectrophotometry at 555 nm. The boric acid concentration in food samples was found to be 0.913-3.518 mg/kg. The separating method through in-situ volatilization systems in a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) container can be used for boric acid analysis in food samples.
