Abstract

Aquatic environments contaminated with iron can pose a threat to human health and other organisms, with a threshold concentration of 0.2 mg/L for hygiene and sanitation purposes. This study aims to analyze Fe(III) concentrations in water using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a natural complexing agent from flamboyant flower extract as a more economical and environmentally friendly alternative to KSCN. Flamboyant flower extract contains anthocyanin compounds with a density of 1.02 g/cm³ that form a red-colored complex with Fe(III) and exhibit maximum absorption at a wavelength of 510 nm. Optimal complex formation conditions were achieved at pH 1 with an extract volume of 0.15 mL and a reaction time of at least 40 minutes. The complex was found to be stable for 2 days. Analysis results showed that the Fe(III) concentration in the tested water sample was 1.09 mg/L.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning model application on science process skills and students' science learning outcomes. This type of research is a quasi-experimental using a counterbalanced design with a Post-test Only Control Design research, which was carried out in two research sessions. The study population was all students of SMP Negeri 21 Bulubonggu. The sampling technique was purposive. In the first session, the science process skills scores of the experimental class 1 students were 56.40, the experimental class 2 students were 37.95, while the experimental class 1 students' learning outcomes were 70.00, and the experimental class 2's average was 54.50. The results of the independent-sample parametric t-test of science process skills were obtained, p = 0.001, and the learning outcomes obtained were p = 0.000, so that H0 was rejected. The second session of the science process skills scores of the experimental class 1 students obtained an average of 60.60, the experimental class 2 was 72.80, and the learning outcomes of the experimental class 1 students were an average of 62.00, the experimental class 2 was 74, 00. The results of the independent-sample parametric t-test for science process skills were obtained, p = 0.043; the learning outcomes obtained were p = 0.042, so that Ho was rejected. It means that (1) there is an effect of the project-based learning model on students' science process skills, and (2) there is an effect of the project-based learning model on student learning outcomes.
