Abstract

Low science learning outcomes at the junior high school level are a major problem caused by the dominance of conventional, teacher-centered teaching methods. The purpose of this study is to examine various innovative learning strategies, how effective they are, and their impact on student learning outcomes. The literature review method was used to review national and international articles published between 2020 and 2025 that discuss the application of innovation-based learning strategies in science. The strategy patterns, implementation effectiveness, and their impact on student learning outcomes were analysed using content analysis techniques. The research findings indicate that strategies such as problem-based learning (PBL), project-based learning (PjBL), discovery learning, environmental-based learning, and cooperative learning using the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) method are effective in increasing students' motivation and activity, as well as their learning outcomes in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Generally speaking, the strategies are all student-centered. This is demonstrated by the constructivist approach, which emphasises contextual and collaborative learning. The results of this study indicate that implementing a creative learning approach can be an effective way to improve the quality of science learning and student learning outcomes in junior high school.

Abstract

This paper applies the Gamma Regression Model to determine the probability of newborns in the Diyala Province developing neonatal jaundice, or hyperbilirubinemia. This disease is prevalent, and it may be severe due to the large amount of unconjugated bilirubin in the blood. The aim of the study was to test the relationship between the levels of bilirubin and a set of independent variables, including the weight of birth, gestational age, and the proportion of red blood cells (PVC). 67 worth of data regarding neonatal cases was collected, and the outcome was that the model fitted well. The findings further indicated that whereas the influence of PVC was significant and positive on the bilirubin level, lower gestational age and less weight at birth had significant negative influence. As the results of the study indicate, the Gamma Regression Model is an effective tool to assess medical data and predict critical scenarios, which assists a clinician with the timely and accurate decision-making.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the thermal efficiency of two aluminum and iron-based pans in the water heating process. This research method uses a mixed approach that includes direct observation (qualitative) and quantitative analysis based on changes in water temperature after heating at two volume variations, namely 0.25 L and 0.5 L. Heating was carried out with two time differences, the total of each experiment was four experiments, with two experiments for five minutes and also two experiments for ten minutes. The results showed that iron pans produced heat of 66,150 J at a volume of 0.25 L and 151,200 J at a volume of 0.5 L. Meanwhile, an aluminum pan could produce heat of 53,550 J at a volume of 0.25 L and 67,200 J at a volume of 0.5 L. The difference in heat value was influenced by the thermal conductivity and physical characteristics of each material. This study provides an understanding of the thermal performance of both pot materials and can be considered in the selection of efficient cooking utensils in the household environment.

Abstract

Negative Binomial Regression is a statistical modeling approach used to analyze count data with overdispersion, where the variance exceeds the mean. This study applies the method to examine the influence of weather factors on the daily number of cyclists crossing the Williamsburg Bridge in New York City. The independent variables used in the analysis include maximum temperature, minimum temperature, and precipitation. The dataset was obtained from the NYC Department of Transportation through the Kaggle platform and covers the period from April 1 to April 30, 2016. The analysis began with a Poisson Regression model; however, the presence of overdispersion was identified, indicated by a high AIC value of 8598.19, suggesting that the model was not suitable. The alternative Negative Binomial Regression model was then employed and produced a significantly lower AIC value of 518.77, demonstrating a superior fit. The findings indicate that maximum temperature has a positive effect on the number of cyclists, while precipitation shows a significant negative effect. Conversely, minimum temperature does not exhibit a meaningful influence. These results highlight the importance of considering weather conditions when planning bicycle-based transportation systems and support the development of sustainable mobility strategies in urban environments.

Abstract

This study aims to apply the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method to identify the main factors influencing poverty in North Sumatra Province. Poverty rates in this region show significant variations among districts and cities, influenced by differences in social, economic, educational, and basic facility availability. The data used in this study include eleven indicators related to population, education, health, access to basic services, and economic conditions. All variables were initially normalized to ensure they had comparable scales, then PCA feasibility tests were conducted using MSA, KMO, and Bartlett's test, which indicated that the data were eligible for further analysis. The results of the PCA revealed three main components explaining a total of 69.91 percent of the variation. The first component represents regional population and economic factors, with the largest contributions coming from population density, open unemployment rate, and per capita expenditure. The second component reflects household living conditions, such as access to clean water, adequate sanitation, and health complaints. The third component describes the educational dimension through indicators of the population aged at the primary and secondary school levels. These findings indicate that poverty in North Sumatra is influenced not only by economic factors but also by the quality of basic services and education levels among the population. Therefore, this research is useful for policymakers at the central and regional government levels to consider the factors influencing the increase in poverty in North Sumatra.

Abstract

The increasing consumption of packaged food products in Indonesia reflects modern lifestyle changes but simultaneously raises public health concerns related to high calorie, sugar, and fat intake. Nutritional information presented on food labels consists of multiple interrelated variables, making it difficult to identify dominant nutritional factors that characterize packaged food products. This study aims to apply Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce the dimensionality of nutritional data and to map the nutritional characteristics of packaged food products in Indonesia. The research employs a quantitative exploratory approach using secondary data obtained from nutrition facts labels of 1,651 packaged food products. Seven nutritional variables were initially analyzed, namely total energy, protein, total fat, total carbohydrates, sugar, sodium, and dietary fiber. Data preprocessing included data cleaning, Z-score standardization, and iterative variable selection based on the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity to ensure sampling adequacy and sufficient correlation among variables. Variables with low sampling adequacy and perfect multicollinearity were eliminated, resulting in five variables retained for the final PCA model. Principal components were extracted using the eigenvalue greater than one criterion and confirmed through a scree plot, followed by Varimax rotation to enhance interpretability. The results indicate the formation of two principal components explaining approximately 69.7% of the total variance. The first component represents energy density and macronutrient richness, while the second component reflects carbohydrate-related characteristics, particularly the contrasting pattern between sugar and dietary fiber. Biplot visualization further illustrates product distribution based on these components. The findings demonstrate that PCA effectively simplifies complex nutritional information and provides a clear nutritional mapping of packaged food products, offering practical insights for consumers, producers, and policymakers in supporting healthier food choices in Indonesia.

Abstract

Production planning and inventory control are critical aspects of operations management, as they directly influence cost efficiency, resource utilization, and the continuity of the production process. Ineffective planning and inventory decisions may lead to excessive costs, production delays, or imbalances between supply and demand. The complexity of these problems, which often involve multi-period horizons and multi-stage decision-making processes, has encouraged the application of quantitative optimization methods, one of which is dynamic programming. This study aims to analyze and synthesize the application of dynamic programming in production planning and inventory control through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The SLR process was conducted by systematically identifying, selecting, and analyzing 15 relevant national journal articles published between 2015 and 2024 and obtained from various recognized scientific databases. The reviewed literature indicates that dynamic programming is effective in supporting optimal decision-making by determining appropriate production quantities and inventory levels, minimizing total production and holding costs, and managing fluctuating demand conditions. In addition, this method helps reduce the risks associated with overstock and stockouts by considering sequential decision structures. However, the findings also reveal several limitations of dynamic programming, including high computational complexity, strong dependence on deterministic data assumptions, and limited flexibility in handling high levels of uncertainty. These constraints suggest the need for further methodological development or integration with other approaches to enhance practical applicability.

Abstract

Set theory is one of the fundamental concepts underlying the structure of discrete mathematics and computer science and plays a crucial role in understanding various advanced topics, such as relations, functions, mathematical logic, and other discrete structures. This concept serves as the foundation for developing a systematic and structured mathematical mindset. This paper aims to explain the fundamental concepts of set theory, review its significance in discrete mathematics, and outline how to present sets and basic operations on sets, such as union, intersection, complement, and difference. The method used in this paper is a literature study by reviewing, collecting, reading, and analyzing data from various relevant written sources, both textbooks and scientific articles. Through this study, students are expected to be able to understand set theory more comprehensively. Thus, it can be concluded that set theory is not merely an introductory topic, but rather a formal framework that defines the validity of logic and structure in modern discrete systems.
