Abstract

Tempoyak is a traditional fermented paste made from durian in Indonesia, favored by the Malay ethnic group. While tempoyak holds a unique and significant place in Indonesia's rich culinary diversity, there is a notable gap in research about it compared to other fermented foods such as kimchi. More investigation is essential to grasp the microbial composition, interactions, and possible health advantages of tempoyak, which may offer benefits like boosting the immune system, reducing cholesterol levels, exhibiting probiotic qualities, preservation, and possessing antibacterial effects. Researchers could also discover vital insights regarding the history, cultural significance, production methods, microbiological issues, nutritional aspects, and future prospects of local foods like tempoyak. This research intends to examine and study tempoyak as a traditional fermented food through comprehensive literature review and data from earlier investigations. Tempoyak has a strong connection to Malay cultural identity, regardless of its production location. As a key element of the daily practices of the Malay people in Indonesia, tempoyak is typically featured at cultural events, weddings, or large gatherings. This cultural importance sets Indonesian tempoyak apart from its Malaysian counterpart. The process of making tempoyak involves mashing the durian flesh, mixing in salt, and letting the combined mixture ferment in a sealed container at room temperature for 4 to 7 days. The microbial population in tempoyak can differ but mainly includes Lactobacillus species, particularly Lactobacillus plantarum. Proximate analysis is an effective approach to evaluate the nutritional makeup of tempoyak. Differences in nutrient levels may arise from the various types of durian, salt elements, sterilization periods, temperatures, and length of fermentation. Potential research opportunities could explore tempoyak’s role in fostering sustainable food practices, additional health benefits from its consumption, and the development of innovative products based on tempoyak. The aim of this study will enhance the field and aid in safeguarding and promoting the culinary heritage of the Malay community.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationships among mindset, anxiety, and the achievement of the Assessment of Regional Education Standardization (ASPD) results among ninth-grade students in public junior high schools in Yogyakarta City. Using a quantitative survey approach, the study involved 871 students selected through stratified random sampling based on the TPM stage 1 test scores from schools categorized into high, medium, and low strata for the 2022/2023 academic year. Data were collected using a questionnaire instrument, validated by two expert validators, and construct validity was confirmed through standardized loading factors, showing all items to be valid. Reliability was measured using Cronbach's Alpha, yielding 0.508 for mindset and 0.724 for anxiety. Data analysis employed Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) in R Studio, with model fit assessed through RMSEA, GFI, AGFI, and CFI criteria. Results revealed that the mindset measurement model demonstrated an excellent fit, and the anxiety measurement model also fit the data well after minor modifications. Structural model testing confirmed a good overall fit. Findings indicated that anxiety directly influenced ASPD achievement, with higher anxiety associated with lower results. Mindset did not have a direct effect on ASPD outcomes but negatively influenced anxiety, meaning a stronger growth mindset led to lower anxiety levels. Furthermore, mindset indirectly affected ASPD achievement through its impact on anxiety, demonstrating that fostering a growth mindset can enhance students’ performance by reducing anxiety.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ethnomathematics activities carried out by corn farmers in Tegal Arum Village. The approach used is qualitative with an ethnographic method, with data collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation from two farmers who are knowledgeable in traditional corn farming practices. The main focus of this study is to identify the application of basic mathematical concepts, such as counting, measuring, and calculating, in their daily farming activities. The results show that the farmers in Tegal Arum Village apply mathematics in a contextual form, derived from experiences and practices passed down through generations. For example, they calculate the seed requirements, estimate the number of laborers and planting time, and measure the harvest using local units like sacks and handfuls. These activities reflect the relevant application of ethnomathematics, which can be integrated into contextual mathematics learning in schools. The findings indicate that mathematics is not only taught in a formal setting in schools but also naturally develops in the community's daily life, especially through farming activities. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to serve as a reference in the development of a local culture-based curriculum that connects mathematics learning to real-life contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the significant influence of mathematical resilience on students' mathematical problem-solving ability, as well as measure the magnitude of this influence. The approach used is quantitative with an ex post facto (comparative causal) design, where variables have occurred before the study was conducted. The research population included all grade XII students at MAS Miftahussalam Medan, with a sample of 33 students selected through simple random sampling techniques. The research instrument consisted of a questionnaire to measure mathematical resilience and a test to measure mathematical problem-solving ability. The validity and reliability of the instruments were tested through preliminary trials. Data analysis was carried out through a prerequisite test (normality and linearity), followed by a simple linear regression test, t-test, and determination coefficient. The results of the analysis showed a regression equation Y = 16.803 + 0.273X, with a value of t_hitung = 3.784 > t_tabel = 2.039 at a significance level of 5%, so that H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. The determination coefficient of 0.316 showed that mathematical resilience contributed 31.6% to students' mathematical problem-solving ability, while 68.4% was influenced by other factors. These findings confirm the importance of strengthening mathematical resilience in an effort to improve students' problem-solving skills more effectively.

Abstract

The assessment of student achievement is one of the main indicators in measuring the effectiveness of the educational process in Islamic boarding schools. The assessment process that has been carried out manually tends to be subjective, so it has the potential to cause a discrepancy between the student's achievement and the results of the evaluation received. This research aims to develop a decision support system that is able to assess student achievement in an objective, measurable, and transparent manner by applying the PROMETHEE (Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation) method. This method is used because it has the ability to manage various assessment criteria simultaneously to produce fair and rational alternative rankings. The research approach used is quantitative descriptive by involving a number of students as research samples. The data was analyzed through the stages of determining weight, calculating preference values, and determining the values of leaving flow, entering flow, and net flow as the basis for determining the final ranking. The results of the study show that the PROMETHEE method can provide consistent and accurate ranking results, by placing students who have academic excellence, discipline, and positive personalities in the top position. These findings prove that the PROMETHEE method is effective in overcoming the subjectivity of the assessment and increasing the transparency of the evaluation process. Practically, the resulting system can help the pesantren in determining outstanding students more efficiently and based on data, as well as theoretically strengthen the application of multicriteria decision-making methods in the context of Islamic education.’

Abstract

This study aims to apply a simple experimental approach titled “Balloon Expands Without Being Blown” to enhance fifth-grade students’ understanding of gas concepts in science learning at MI Malik Ibrahim. The study originates from the observation that students often struggle to grasp the concepts of gases and acid–base reactions, which are typically taught in a purely theoretical manner without engaging hands-on experiences. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following Kurt Lewin’s model, which includes four interconnected stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The participants consisted of 22 fifth-grade students from MI Malik Ibrahim. The findings reveal a substantial improvement in both learning achievement and classroom participation after the experimental activity was introduced. Students’ average scores increased from 62 to 85, with 82% showing measurable progress. Furthermore, inquiry and discussion activities became more frequent, and most students could correctly explain the formation of carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas. Overall, the results suggest that the balloon expands without being blown experiment effectively fosters scientific conceptual understanding, promotes active engagement, and stimulates motivation toward learning science.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of added sugar on the stability of soap bubbles through a hands-on science activity titled “Magic Bubbles” conducted with third-grade students at SDN 1 Karangrejo. The activity was implemented collaboratively, where students observed, experimented, and drew conclusions together under teacher guidance, without the use of individual worksheets. Using a participatory observation method, the research described students’ engagement, reactions, and learning behavior during the process. Findings revealed that soap bubbles containing added sugar demonstrated greater stability and a longer lifespan compared to those without sugar. Students showed high levels of enthusiasm, curiosity, and active participation throughout the experiment. The activity not only fostered engagement but also enhanced students’ gross motor coordination, observation skills, and early scientific reasoning. Furthermore, it encouraged cooperative learning and communication among peers. The results highlight the effectiveness of simple laboratory-based learning as a medium to introduce scientific inquiry at the elementary level. The “Magic Bubbles” activity aligns with the inquiry-based learning approach in science education, emphasizing direct experience, experimentation, and concept discovery through observation and guided reflection. This study demonstrates that contextual, play-based science activities can meaningfully improve motivation and conceptual understanding among young learners.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model that utilizes the surrounding environment in improving the learning outcomes of Biology Science on plant material and its functions in grade 3 students of MI Al Barokah Jember. This approach refers to David A. Kolb's experiential learning theory and Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky's constructivism theory, which emphasizes the importance of active student involvement through real-life experiences and social interactions. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) model with four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 24 students, with data obtained through observation, learning outcome tests (pre-test and post-test), and reflective interviews. Data analysis was carried out using quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The results showed a significant increase in students' conceptual understanding, with an average pre-test score of 60 increasing to 82 in the post-test, and 83% of students showed improved learning outcomes. Student activity also increased, with more students actively involved in observations, discussions, and presentations. As many as 80–85% of students were able to explain the functions of plant parts based on direct observation. Students responded positively to this lesson, but there were limitations in the variety of plants and the timeframe. It is recommended to reinforce initial understanding with visual aids and allow more time for group discussions.
