Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Small, Micro, and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Program within the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework of PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV (PTPN IV) Regional 1 Medan. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and Matland’s implementation model, the program was evaluated through four indicators: policy accuracy, implementation accuracy, target accuracy, and environmental accuracy. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from purposively selected informants, including CSR staff and SME actors. The findings show that policy accuracy is strong, as the program aligns with SME needs and the company’s mandate. Implementation accuracy improved significantly after loan management was transferred to Bank BRI, although training activities remain limited by short duration and insufficient mentoring. Target accuracy indicates that the program successfully reaches SMEs near operational areas, despite challenges related to SMEs’ internal readiness. From an environmental perspective, PTPN IV has effectively utilized its authority and networks, though improvements are needed through business-type-based training. Overall, the CSR SME program reflects commitment and adaptability, but its effectiveness can be enhanced through better training design and strengthened mentoring support.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the All-Indonesia Workers’ Union (SPSI) in promoting workers’ welfare in Padang Hilir District, Tebing Tinggi City. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research explores how SPSI provides legal protection, advocates workers’ rights, and strengthens workers’ bargaining power in negotiations with employers. Informants were selected through purposive sampling and included SPSI leaders, the Chairperson of the Plant-Level Union (PUK), and local workers. Data were collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and literature review. The findings indicate that SPSI Tebing Tinggi City has effectively fulfilled its role in protecting and defending workers’ rights. The union guarantees freedom of association, safeguards workers’ rights to fair wages, and encourages the creation of healthy and safe working environments. SPSI also actively negotiates with companies to improve wages, workers’ welfare, and employment agreements that prioritize workers’ interests. Additionally, SPSI serves as a channel for workers’ aspirations and complaints. However, the study finds that SPSI has not yet been able to provide systematic training or skills development programs for its members.

Abstract

This study examines the sociological evolution of communication in digital society by focusing on secondary accounts as strategic responses to social pressure on mainstream social media platforms. Using a qualitative methodology and a virtual ethnographic approach within a constructivist paradigm, the research explores how individuals construct and negotiate their social identities in digital spaces. Data were drawn from academic books, peer-reviewed journals, and scholarly articles, and were complemented by virtual observations and in-depth interviews with users of secondary accounts. Thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns related to digital identity and social interaction, while data validity was ensured through triangulation of observations, interview findings, and existing literature. The findings indicate that secondary accounts serve as important spaces for expressing authentic selves beyond the controlled personas presented on primary accounts. This practice reflects both tactical management of social visibility and ongoing negotiation between personal freedom and social conformity. Overall, the study highlights the dynamic and segmented nature of digital identity within contemporary social media ecosystems.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of TikTok content from the account @buiramira on the ease experienced by final-year students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) in completing their final projects. “Students’ ease” is measured through respondents’ perceptions of how easily they can find information, understand the material, and apply the tips provided in @buiramira’s content. Using a quantitative method with questionnaires distributed to 50 Communication Science students at UINSU (based on Slovin’s formula with a 10% margin of error), the data were analyzed using simple linear regression, correlation, coefficient of determination, and t-tests. The results indicate a significant influence of @buiramira’s content on students’ ease (p < 0.05), with a contribution of 46.4%. This study concludes that educational content on TikTok can serve as a valuable source of information for students in completing their final projects and highlights the importance of delivering content that is clear, accurate, and easy to understand.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of organizational communication in the digital era through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The research aims to identify key strategies, challenges, and impacts of digital communication on organizational effectiveness. Drawing on peer-reviewed journal articles indexed in Google Scholar, SINTA, DOAJ, and other academic databases, the study synthesizes recent literature addressing digitalization, information technology implementation, leadership communication, and employee engagement. The findings indicate that digital communication significantly enhances operational efficiency, accelerates information flow, supports cross-functional collaboration, and enables data-driven decision-making. However, the transformation process also presents critical challenges, including digital skill gaps, resistance to change, information overload, cybersecurity risks, and ethical concerns. Leadership communication emerges as a central factor in managing digital change, particularly in fostering trust, psychological safety, and organizational resilience. Overall, the study concludes that digital communication transformation positively influences organizational effectiveness when supported by adaptive culture, strengthened digital literacy, ethical governance, and balanced integration between digital and face-to-face communication.

Abstract

The press functions as an essential component of mass communication systems that shapes public opinion, disseminates information, and supports social and political life. Differences in political ideology and systems of government have resulted in diverse press systems across countries. The Authoritarian Theory, Libertarian Theory, Social Responsibility Theory, and Communist Theory provide a theoretical framework to explain the relationship between the press, the state, and society. Using a qualitative literature-based approach, this study analyzes the characteristics and practical implementation of each press theory. The findings indicate that each theory reflects distinct levels of media freedom, state control, and social responsibility, which influence how the press operates within a particular political context. Understanding these theories is important for evaluating the role of the press in supporting democratic values, political stability, and public accountability.
