Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of side friction activities on the performance of Jalan Orang Kayo Pingai in Jambi City. The research data were obtained through traffic surveys conducted for seven consecutive days, from January 12 to January 18, 2026, during morning, midday, and evening peak hours. The side friction variables analyzed consisted of pedestrian movements (PED), parked or stopped vehicles on the roadway (PSV), and vehicles entering and exiting roadside access points (EEV). Road performance was evaluated based on traffic volume, road capacity, degree of saturation, level of service, and free-flow speed in accordance with the Indonesian Highway Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed using IBM SPSS software to determine the relationship between side friction and road performance. The results showed that the highest degree of saturation was 0.96 on the Talang Banjar direction with Level of Service (LOS) E, while the lowest degree of saturation was 0.49 on the Selincah direction with LOS A. Partial analysis indicated that on-street parking activities had the most significant effect on road performance, while simultaneously all side friction variables significantly influenced the degree of saturation. The coefficient of determination values of 0.900 for the Talang Banjar direction and 0.879 for the Selincah direction indicate that side friction activities have a very strong influence on the performance of Jalan Orang Kayo Pingai, Jambi City

Abstract

Natural lighting plays an important role in achieving visual comfort and energy efficiency in office buildings, particularly in humid tropical climates where excessive solar radiation often leads to glare and uneven illumination. This study aims to examine the influence of kinetic facade design on visual comfort using a systematic literature review approach. Relevant scientific articles related to adaptive facades and daylighting performance were analyzed to identify key design strategies and performance outcomes. The findings show that kinetic facade systems are capable of improving daylight distribution, reducing glare intensity, and maintaining more stable indoor illumination levels compared to conventional static facades. Several adaptive mechanisms, such as rotating panels, folding systems, and sensor-based controls, demonstrate effective real-time responses to varying solar conditions, resulting in improved visual comfort performance. This study contributes by synthesizing existing research to highlight the most effective kinetic facade strategies for humid tropical climates and by providing a conceptual basis for their application in office building design to enhance visual comfort and environmental responsiveness.

Abstract

The bayur tree (Pterospermum javanicum) is a forestry species that is relatively easy to cultivate and adapts well to local climatic conditions, making it an ideal choice for large-scale nursery programs. Land rehabilitation efforts require a supply of high-quality seedlings, as these seedlings are better able to adapt and thrive in sites that match the characteristics of their tree species, thereby improving the success of planting efforts in rehabilitation projects This study aims to determine the effects of lighting and watering on the quality of Bayur (Pterospermum javanivum) seedlings. The study was conducted from January 5 to February 18, 2026, as part of an internship at the UPTD Forest Tree Certification and Seed Production Center, Department of Forestry, West Sumatra Province. The study employed direct observation and field practice methods, presenting descriptive data in the field of forest tree seedling propagation. The results indicate that plants with optimal lighting and regular watering exhibit high-quality seedling growth when proper procedures are followed. This activity provided students with practical experience in applying biological science and supported biodiversity conservation and reforestation programs in West Sumatra.

Abstract

A professional internship was conducted at the Forest Plant Certification and Seedling Center (UPTD BSPTH) of West Sumatra Provincial Forestry Service from January 5 to February 18, 2026, focusing on the seedling techniques of candlenut (Aleurites moluccana L.). This article aims to describe the seedling stages applied at UPTD BSPTH, including seed selection, pre-germination treatment, sowing, germination observation, transplanting to polybags, and seedling maintenance. The method used was participative observation and direct field observation. Results showed that the nursery medium consisted of a mixture of mineral soil, fine sand, organic compost, and rice husks. Mechanical scarification treatment was effective in increasing germination percentage. Seeds germinating in the center of the seedbed tended to sprout earlier due to more even moisture and temperature distribution. The produced candlenut seedlings showed good quality, characterized by strong taproots, erect dark-green stems, and normally developed leaves. The seedling technique applied at UPTD BSPTH is in accordance with the principles of forest plant nursery management, producing seedlings suitable for land rehabilitation and reforestation programs in West Sumatra.
