Abstract

The marginalization of women's sexuality and its formation as a myth shows that social construction is basically a sexual construction that is primarily directed at defining and mastering womens sexuality. In this article the author discusses how sexual issues on womens stereotypes as displayed in the comparison between the female doctor character in the novel Memoar Seorang Dokter Perempuan by Nawal El Saadawi and Hiroko in the novel Namaku Hiroko by Nh. Dini. The scope of the discussion is limited to the depiction of the two main characters using comparative literary methods. Through the stereotypical analysis of women displayed from both works, it can be seen the link between the ideas of the feminist movement to deconstruct patriarchal culture in the matter of sexuality with the depiction of the two figures. In the end, the stereotype reflected in the two novels have a value of resistance to patriarchal culture. Keywords: deconstruction, comparative literature, sexuality, stereotypes

Abstract

Perang Dunia II di awal abad 20 mempunyai keterkaitan erat dengan kekuasaan Nazi (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei atau Partai Pekerja Jerman Sosialis Nasional) di bawah kepemimpinan Adolf Hitler. Pada saat itu, Nazi begitu ditakuti oleh negara-negara lawan. Meskipun demikian ada sekelompok kecil orang yang berani menentang Nazi. Salah satunya adalah kelompok œdie weiße Rose yang dipelopori oleh Sophie Scholl, Hans Scholl bersama teman-temannya. Tetapi kelompok tersebut berhasil dihancurkan oleh Nazi. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, maka rumusan masalah penelitian ini adalah 1) Bagaimana bentuk hegemoni Nazi yang ada dalam naskah film Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage? 2) Bagaimana bentuk perlawanan hegemoni yang ada dalam naskah film Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk hegemoni Nazi serta perlawanan terhadap hegemoni melalui kajian film Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage dengan menggunakan teori hegemoni Antonio Gramsci. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik dokumentasi. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah film Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage karya sutradara Marc Rothemund. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah naskah film yang didalamnya terdapat dialog dan tindakan para tokoh yang menggambarkan bentuk hegemoni Nazi dan perlawanan hegemoni. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah 1) Bentuk hegemoni Nazi yang terdiri dari hegemoni represif, ideologi, peran kaum intelektual tradisional serta peran negara. 2) Bentuk perlawanan hegemoni yang terdiri dari membuat selebaran anti Nazi, membuat grafiti anti Nazi, mencoret-coret lambang Nazi, dan melawan hukum.Kata Kunci: Hegemoni, perlawanan hegemoni, naskah film

Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between human being and nature in Into the Forest by Jean Hegland. This study uses ecocriticism theory to analyzes the phenomenon of ecological crisis. Ecocriticism is a theory about human being and nature. Nature and human being are related to each other. It is impossible to separate them. When human being exploits nature, it creates a horrible condition for human being and nature. This thesis analyzes the problems, which are: (1) How is nature portrayed, (2) How is the impacts of the devastation of the earth to the human being, and (3) How do the main characters act towards ecological crisis. The result of this study shows that ecological crisis occurs because of the human being. Human wants to fulfill their additional needs, such as war. The main factor of ecological crisis is human desire. It makes famine, disease, barren field, hostility, and death.Keywords: Ecocriticism, Human, Nature, Disaster

Abstract

Wayang is one of art which sourced from Javanese culture. Wayang for Javanese society have a function not only being an entertainment, but also being guidance ways. Wayang as guidance because on wayang story contain some of character values sourced from Javanese culture which especially dedicated for Javanese society. This research is qualitative descriptive using ecological literature approach. Focus on this research are to describe and explain about ways to strengthening characters of environment preservation using wayang story Lakon Dewa Ruci. Data resourced is wayang text lakon Dewa Ruci and some informants from dalang. Data collected technique using study literature and in-depth interview. Some data which founded then analyzed by using interactive technique, which the phase are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Triangulation technique using for data validity. Result of the research can be find in Lakon Dewa Ruci there are representation of teach how to preserve the environment. One of them can be seen when Bima looking for Tirta Perwita Sari, he must fused with nature, he must plunging into ocean. Therefore, characters of environment preservation also can be seen on Bimas journey when looking ngelmu sejati until he meet Dewa Ruci. Abstract

Kapata is oral literature which is pronounced in the form of poetry or sung with or without using a melody. This study aims to describe (1) the relativity of language and culture in the Kapata community of Alifuru in Central Maluku; (2) poetic structure in the Kapata of the Alifuru community in Central Maluku. The approach in this study is qualitative with ethnographic studies. The data source in this study is the Central Maluku community who understands Kapata. The data in this study is the Kapata that has been translated. The results in the study show that: (1) the relativity of language and culture in the Kapata of the Alifuru community, as a form of expressing cultural values contained in the Kapata of the Alifuru community. (2) the poetic structure of the Alifuru community as a form of poetic arrangement that is in the Kapata, thus the poetic arrangement will be seen through pronunciation pronounced by humans through vowels, diphthongs and consonants in chanting the Kapata. The results of this study can benefit the community in preserving uniqueness area in the Kapata domain.Keywords:   language relativity, cultural relativity, poetic structure, Kapata.

Abstract

Providing feedback to peers writing is not an easy task. It is required an ability to deliver the feedback or comment critically and a competence to master the knowledge of writing. Therefore, the present study is going to explore the impact of giving feedback to the students writing and to acknowledge what the students challenge while giving feedback to their peers writing. There are 10 students as the participants of this study. Qualitative study assists the researchers to get the data. The results revealed that the comparison between students first draft and the last draft had improvements mainly on the aspect of the language use. Meanwhile, most students challenges while giving feedback to the peers writing were they had to have knowledge about the grammar mainly the use of simple past tense before giving feedback to their peer.    Keywords: writing, peer assessment, feedback, challenge

Abstract

Soren Kierkegaards the three phases of Human Existence (aesthetic phase, ethic phase and religious phase) combine with a current study of Existentialism by Gordon E. Bigelow (Existence Precedes Essence, Alienation, Fear and Trembling of Anxiety, Nothingness, and Freedom) are the core ideaof this research. The researcher compares the Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelhos novel Veronika Decides to Die and Japanese novelist Abe Kobos novel Woman in the Dunes. This research reveals how the main characters Veronika and Niki are entrapped by society and  nature with the sense of nothingness till their enlightenment. By means of using Descriptive Qualitative research, this researchfound the way of the main characters provide the meaning of their life based on the three phases of Existentialism and the Six Prime of Existentialism.    Keywords:  Existentialism, Six Primes of Existentialism, Three Phases of Human Existence

Abstract

This study aims to describe the culture of manners in ethnographic novels. The method used in this research is decriptive qualitative. Research data sourced from three ethnographic novels, namely Namaku Teweraut by Ani Sekarningsih (2000), Manusia Langit by J.A. Sonjaya (2010), and Cinta Putih di Bumi Papua by Dzikry El Han (2014). Data were collected by using close reading technique and noting technique. The collected data were then analyzed in Miles and Huberman's three stages of qualitative data analysis, i.e. data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of the study show that the culture of manners embodied in ethnographic novels are respecting parents, respecting customary stakeholder decisions, respecting guests, greeting and introducing oneself, and ethic of speech.Keywords:   character, cultural value, manners, ethnographic novels.

Abstract

This research have focus on human personality in extrovert personality. Dwilogy Hwaiting and trilogy Little Ballerina novel by Muthia Fadhilla Khairunnisa are the objects of this research. This research is study of literary psychology by Carl Gustav Jung. Three focus on this research are extrovert personality type, motivation, and how to solve personality problem. This research is kualitative research that using descriptive analyzes method. Abstract

This research is emphasized on the improving students character especially in their humanity character. In fact, there are many students do not realize that humanity decreases every day. Furthermore, they do not get some humanity aspects in their class because the lecturer only focuses on the teaching result. Here, the researcher tries to bring the humanity aspects in literature class exactly at Literary Criticism subject through Sue Monk Kidds The Secret Life of Bees. The students are English department students in the third semester of Nahdlatul Ulama University of Sidoarjo. The researcher leads the students to use genetic structuralism theory in analyzing the novel.  In this case, the researcher leads the students to see the literary work from two points of views namely intrinsic and extrinsicand connect directly the phenomena from that period of the literary works are created to the intrinsic element of the literary work itself.After the students find some information about the content of the novel and relate it to social phenomena that occurred in South Carolina in 1964. As the result, they find some racism action faced by Afro-Americans that are categorized in inhumanity attitude, they are; prejudice, segregation, discrimination, extermination, and expulsion. All of the attitudes show that the humanity is needed to teach to students in order to decrease racism and inequality in our life.Keywords:     secret life of bees, humanity, racism.
