Abstract

This article examines the effect of problem-based instruction using Think-Pair-Share strategy towards learning achievement on biology subject and retention of students with high and low academic performance. This study used quasi experiment implementing Nonrandomized Control Group Pretest-Postest of 2x2 factorial design. Sample of this study were 70 students of 10th graders of SMAN 4 Malang representing high academic performance and 70 students of 10thgraders of SMA Maarif Singosari representing low academic performance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Anacova Test. The study revealed that problem-based instruction with TPS did not significantly improve students achievement in Bilology subject, but academic potential affects significantly on students retention.

Abstract

This study reports the difference between products of two kinds of leadership style in an insurance company in terms of productivity measured using total closing and amount of bonus obtained by the company in a two-year operayion and work satisfaction factor. The study was conducted in an insurance company in Malang. Data on work satisfaction were collected using questionnaire and data were analyzed using t-test for independent sample. The study revealed that supporting leadership style is superior in terms of productivity. Attainment on total closing and bonus within two-year operation as well as work satisfaction was significantly superior. AIA is recommended to implement situational leadership style to increase productivity of agency and to find added value in terms of work satisfaction of the agencies.

Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of teaching skills and teachers ’ discipline to improve students ’ achievement in civic education subject. This study used explanatory association design where data were analyzed using multiple liniar regression. The study was conducted at SMAN 1 Kademangan Blitar and involved 63 students as sample. The study revealed: (a) teachers ’ skill to teavh Civic Education was high proficiency, (b) students ’ discipline in learning Civic Education was good, (c) students performed very good attitude in certain environment that annoyed learning process they faced, (d) analysis using t-test indicated that variables of learning motivation, learning discipline and intelligence partially affected students ’ achievement on Civic Education subject in the level of significance up to 99%. Simultaneously, the hypothesis testing proved that variables of teacher skills and teachers ’ discipline to teach, altogether affected students ’ achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) see history and characteristics of local indigeneous ecologies of Kui traditonal community, (2) obtain values of local genius on ecology that is possible to integrate into social sciences subject, and (3) model of local indigeneous ecologies of Krui tradional community as alternatives of learning sources of cocial science subject. The study used ethnography applied in qualitatuve approach. The study revealed: (1) Krui traditional community has their own local indigeneous ecologies to utilize and sustain forest, (2) values of local indigenius ecologies include: sustaining environment, cooperation work, adherence to the law, simple and self-reliance, democracy, work hard, sustainable and honest; (3) values of local genius in ecolocy are applicable to integrate in the learning sources of social sciences of grade: IV, V, and VI of SD levels and garde VII and VIII of SMP levels.

Abstract

This study examines relationship between aggressiveness and mental health of students. This study applied correlational design. Conducted at SMPN 2 Wagir, Malang, this study assigned 216 sample of the 10thgraders. Data were analyzed using statistical and non-statistical models. The study discovered that there was a significant relationship between variable X and Y. Elaborated in correlational statement, the study concluded: (a) high aggressiveness of students does not mean that students ’ mental health is low (bad), (b) low mental health of students does not mean that aggressiveness is high, and (c) moderate aggressiveness of students probably means students ’ mental health is also moderate.

Abstract

This study aims to predict the impact of fresh water storage, credit access facility to cath fish, and restoration of slum housing toward low income community welfare in the coastal areas. This study used verificative-qualitative approach. This study took place in Tengkurak Village, Pontang District, Serang Regency, Banten. Sample of this study was 33 people and data were collected using questionnaire. The data were analyzed using regression analysis of single and triple predictors. The study revealed that there are significant effect of fresh water storage, credit access facility, and restiration of slum housing toward low income society welfare in the coastal areas in a single effect or altogether that contributes up to 68.3%.

Abstract

This study examines instructional objectives, teaching materials, and teaching strategies in English lesson plan. The study uses evaluation design implementing content analysis. An English lesson plan obtained from online data is analyzed. The study reveals that the lesson plan does not formulate appropriately components of instructional objectives and its indicators. The use of action verbs in Bloom taxonomy of instruction is not well identified in the indicators and instructional objectives. Sequence of instructional objective shows that instruction analysis is not applied. As a result, teaching materials are not well designed to show topics as the main teaching materials. Indication of how teacher develops a teaching material that links to instructional objectives, teaching strategies, and evaluation is absent. The lesson plan needs modification in all levels of instructional design more considerably.

Abstract

This study investigated acquisition in Bahasa Indonesia by children learning in playgroup and SD in Mataram. This study used ethnograpic and psycholinguistic as the design. Subject of the study were 6 students of playgroup aging 3-4 years and 4 SD students at 11-12 age. Data were collected using observation and interview. The study revealed that: (1) children learning at playgroup at age 3-4 used telegraphic utterance applying content words to convey message. Phonemes and morphology were aspired in terms of incomplete sound and spelling; (2) children at age 11-12 years old learning in the fifth grade of SD used syntac in terms of sentences. Sentences had been produced in terms of subject, predicate, object, adverbs, that function as parts of speech as the development of vocabulary and diction also improved.

Abstract

This study described (1) management to improve students ’ achievement, (2) factors affecting problems to increase students ’ achievement. This study used qualitative approach assigning Headmaster of SMPN 1 Fak-Fak and all the school-teachers as subject. Data were collected using observation, interview and document analysis. The findings were: (1) headmaster as a leader already promoted discipline, empowering teachers, having MGMP, and established conducive and clean work atmosphere; (2) headmaster as a manager, supervisor, and innovator implemented strategies of empowering, supervising, and developing innovative teaching models; (3) factors to decline management were: lack of tools and facilities, lack of awareness of teachers to increase teaching quality, un-accredited teachers, and irrelevant teachers with subject matters.
