Abstract

This study describes English Language Education Curriculum (ELEC) of Balitar Islamic University delineating needs analysis, tracer study and action plan that is devised considerably upon National Qualification Framework. The study used content analysis implementing qualitative approach. Data were collected from curriculum document, strategic plan of UNISBA, workshop, and Focus Group Discussion conducted at UNISBA for two-month visit. The study revealed that (1) ELEC has been organized in adherence to KKNI containing 144 credits, (2) semesterly course distribution is outlined into: 20 credits each in the first and second semester, 22 credits each in the third up to sixth semester, and 16 credits in seventh semester, (3) diploma supplement as subsequent competency is programmed in terms of workshop in academic literacy, TEFL, enterpreheneurship, IT and computer, and academic writing, (4) competency elements are categorized into: personality development (KPK), work skill (KKK), expertise and knowledge (KKP), methods and knowledge degree (KMK), and managerial skills (KKM) imposed by KKNI.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to promote model English language education curriculum in reference to Indonesian Qualifiation Framework (IQF), practically KKNI-Based English Curriculum. Curriculum evaluation implementing content analysis was used and qualitative approach that involved document analyses, interview, discussion, and workshop was utilized for data collection. This study discovers that alignment of terms of CBC and KKNI-Based Curriculum is required, learning outcomes for institution and course learning outcomes are formulated prior to devise list of courses and course distribution. Admittedly, credits of the whole program and semesterly credits distribution are successivey determined. The recent curriculum has put its quality assurance and it might be applicable to adopt.

Abstract

This paper presents a reflective study on people character development efforts using G*GOLD (Greatness, Gratitude, Obedience, Love, and Discipline) Approach. This study focuses on the reflection of how G*GOLD Approach has contributed to the people character development and this aims at describing the potential impact to contribute to people character development. It has been found out that this approach potentially makes contribution to people character development. Therefore, it is suggested that a further scientific research on the G*GOLD Approach in developing people character for the benefit of the Nation character building is conducted.

Abstract

This article reviews a critical discourse analysis implementing Norman Fairclough perspective as the basis of analysis. There are three kinds of dimensions to analyze according to Fairclough, they are sentence structure, lexicon, and meaning. This article is a report on a small CDA research by analyzing a television talk show, Indonesian Lawyer Club on TV One. The data are utterances recorded from the intercollutors in the event consisiting of nine parts of recording: Karni Ilyas, the host of the event, attorneys, Susno Duaji and his lawyer, and experts invited to the event. It was found that there were implicatures giving pragmatic force which were found in each recording which enabled watchers to understand the speaker meaning easily.

Abstract

This study is aimed at seeing formulation of Specific Instructional Objectives (SIO) developed in the sciences materials by students conducting teaching practice at SMA. This study used descriptive design and assigned subjects of the whole students from Biology Department of UNISBA year 2012/2013. Data of the study included: (1) SIO and its characteristics of its elements: compehensiveness, appropriateness, specification, and attainment, (2) organization of the SIO referring to ABCD, audience, behavior, condition, degree. The study found that SIO that is appropriate to the criteria are: (1) appropriate to the good criteria 58.04% (good), (2) appropriate to the elements of SIO is 98.34%, and (3) appropriate structure regarding level II is 72.32% good, and 23.66% fair.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to see reasons of learning obstacles on learning process and practicum of basic chemistry course in relation with practicum and mastery of the theory. The study used descriptive design and collected data using test and questionnaire. The study assigned 40 students of biology Class at UNISBA. The study revealed that problems on learning basic chemistry is the mastery of teaching materials. Percentage of the problems is contributed in trems of: (1) practicum process 53.29%, (2) teaching process 66.26%, and (3) practicum implementation 66.26%. On social factor, statistically contributes problems up to 66.15%.

Abstract

This study is aimed at promoting school environment to teaching practice for enterpreneurship. Home industries are promoted for teaching practice objects. The study used School Action Research whose objectives are to review and evaluate school policy. Subjects of the study were 69 students of grade IX at SMPN 8 Bontang and 18 teachers three of them are science teachers. The study was conducted in January to February 2014. The findings of the study referred to UNESCO Pillars in education: learning to know, learning to do, learning to be, and learning to live together in peace and harmony. Products of the study that is “terasi-- was processed by students through discovery and problem based project learning starting from finding information (learning to know), trying to make on suervisory, making by themselves (learning to be), and sale the product with school community (learning to live together). The finding probes that PAIKEM is applicable and environment is worth for teaching sources.

Abstract

This study is aimed at seeing how process of improvement of cognitive learning achievement on ecosystem instruction using guided inquiry model. This study used Classroom Action Research with two cycles conducted in four meetings. The subject of the study was the 20 students of grade VII of SMPN 3 Tanjung, South Kalimantan. Data were collected using test and scores of pretest and posttest were used for analysis. Data were analyzed both in quantitative and qualitative forms. The study revealed that guided inquiry model improves cognitive achievement of the VII graders of SMPN Tanjung.

Abstract

This study focuses on how education innovation efforts in teacher competency improvement was done through teacher peadagogic, personal, social, and professional competencies empowerment. This research is a field research using a qualitative approach conducted in Tulungagung, East Java dated January to June 2013. Result of this research was that the Education Department of Tulungagung District has made education innovation in serious efforts to improve teachers' competence, including: (1) Educational seminars, (2) Teacher training, (3) Intensive teachers professional development, (4) Teachership Workshop, (5) Subject teacher group discussion strengthenment, (6) Learning design and approach training, (7) Classroom Action Research Training, and (8) Intensive supervision, such as empowerment of teacher peadagogic, personal, social, and professional competencies.

Abstract

This paper describes problems pertaining teachers assigned in the rural areas in the whole Indonesia are inconvenient to work and leave the sites. This paper argues that salient problems exist in terms of triviality field condition, performance motivation, incentive, and lax of implementation management. Evidently, policy made by the decision makers in upper to the lower level of policy makers contributes ineffective supports of teachers ’ needs and necessities in the sites. The effectiveness of Law on Teacher and Lecturer is problematic stipulated for the teachers problems in rural and remote areas.
