Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the Minang Family Association (IKM) in Samarinda are a key driver of the local economy. Initial observations indicate that the majority of these MSME actors face constraints in managing their business finances in a structured manner using information systems. The core problems identified are low financial literacy and the lack of a simple yet sustainable financial recording system. This is due to difficulties in separating personal and business finances, managing cash flow, and evaluating business progress. The objective of this community service initiative by the Accounting Information Systems Study Program of the State Agricultural Polytechnic of Samarinda is to enhance understanding and skills in basic financial literacy, as well as to introduce and guide business owners in implementing a simple IT-based financial recording system. The implementation methods include socialization and education on financial literacy, followed by training and mentoring in simple bookkeeping using software/application tools. The activity results demonstrated a significant improvement in the participants' understanding of financial management, asset separation, and IT-based financial planning. Consequently, the participants were able to create and implement simple financial records to track income, expenses, and receivables/payables. This community service program by the Accounting Information Systems Study Program has successfully empowered the MSMEs of the Minang Family Association in Samarinda, leading to transparent and accountable UMKM management. This empowerment is expected to enhance their competitiveness, access to capital, and support the professional growth of Minang specialty culinary businesses in Samarinda City.

Abstract

Thrips are among the important pests in papaya cultivation because they damage young leaves and flowers and may reduce plant vigor and fruit set. Community service was conducted for members of Kelompok Tani Mulyo in Bandongan, Magelang, to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in using blue sticky traps as a simple, low-cost, and environmentally safer component of integrated pest management. The activities consisted of field observation, counseling, demonstration, guided installation of traps, and evaluation through discussion and pretest–posttest instruments. The material covered thrips identification, the principles of blue color attraction, trap installation techniques, field sanitation, and routine monitoring. The activity was designed to strengthen farmers’ capacity to detect pest presence earlier and to reduce dependence on repeated insecticide applications. Qualitatively, the program increased participants’ understanding of thrips symptoms, trap placement, monitoring schedules, and the role of non-chemical control in papaya cultivation. The main outcome was the adoption of a practical monitoring and suppression tool that can be directly implemented at farm level. This service activity shows that blue sticky trap training is relevant, feasible, and potentially scalable for farmer groups facing thrips problems in papaya fields

Abstract

The development of tea-based edu-agrotourism in Dusun Turgo requires a solid foundation in cultivation practices, well-organized plantations, and the capacity of the community to implement Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). This community service program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of local residents regarding GAP for tea cultivation as an initial step toward establishing an educational, safe, and attractive edu-agrotourism area. The program was carried out participatively in Dusun Turgo, Purwobinangun Village, Pakem District, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, through several stages: initial observation, needs assessment, preparation of training materials, extension activities, field demonstrations, cultivation practices, and evaluation. Data were collected using observations, pre-tests and post-tests, documentation, and brief interviews with participants. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ understanding of GAP principles, garden sanitation, pruning, plucking, and cultivation record-keeping. In addition, participants began to understand the relationship between a healthy, well-managed tea plantation and the learning experience of visitors. This program not only impacted cultivation aspects but also strengthened the community’s social and technical readiness toward edu-agrotourism development. It produced an initial training model based on plantation practices, community participation, and an educational tourism orientation that can be replicated in similar area development initiatives

Abstract

Coconut coir is an abundant agricultural by-product that, if not properly utilized, has the potential to become waste. One alternative to increase its economic value is to use coconut coir as a growing medium for ornamental plants using the “kokedama” technique. This community service program aimed to enhance students' knowledge and practical skills in utilizing coconut coir as a growing medium for economically valuable “kokedama”, while also fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among young people. The participants consisted of 40 students from MA Islamiyah Senori, Tuban. The program was implemented using a participatory approach through hands-on activities, including preparation, educational sessions, demonstrations, practical training, and evaluation using a post-test consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions. The results showed that the students actively and enthusiastically participated in all stages of the program. Furthermore, the post-test results indicated that the participants achieved a high level of understanding after completing the training. This was reflected in a mean post-test score of 13.33 out of a maximum score of 15, corresponding to a mastery level of approximately 88.9%, with relatively low variation among participants' scores.

Abstract

Hydrometeorology disasters significantly disrupt access to essential health services, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, women of reproductive age, older adults, and patients with chronic diseases. In late November 2025, flash floods and landslides (galodo) struck 16 sub-districts in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, killing more than 180 people in Kecamatan Palembayan alone and displacing thousands of residents. Universitas Andalas (UNAND), through its Faculty of Medicine, responded by deploying specialist medical teams as part of a structured disaster response program coordinated by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM UNAND). This community service report describes the activities of one such team operating on 20 December 2025 at two service points in Koto Alam, Palembayan: Posko Nagari Koto Alam (SD 35 Gumarang) and Rumah Singgah 01. Services included patient registration, anamnesis, physical examination, clinical diagnosis, medication dispensing, individual health education, and referral recommendation. A total of 87 patients were served, with women comprising a larger proportion and ages ranging from 2 to 88 years. Service needs included general complaints, respiratory problems, chronic disease management (hypertension, asthma), gynaecological complaints, nutritional support for children, and ophthalmological issues. Medications were prepared across four clinical domains: paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, internal medicine, and ophthalmology. This report also analyses challenges commonly encountered in post-disaster health management, including logistics gaps, disrupted care continuity, inadequate data recording, insufficient vulnerable-group services, and coordination difficulties, as well as evidence-based solutions from disaster health literature. Post-disaster community health services at field posts and transit shelters play a vital role in maintaining care continuity; however, strengthening logistics, referral pathways, recording systems, and interagency coordination remains essential.
