Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of language in political reporting and its impact on public opinion. Using the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) method, this research explores how the media uses language to frame political news, chooses diction with ideological connotations, and utilizes emotional language to influence public perception. Data was collected from political news published in several media with different political orientations, as well as through surveys and interviews with readers to identify the influence of language on their opinions. The research results show that the media, through framing techniques, word choice, and the use of language that contains emotional elements, significantly influences the public's perspective on political issues. This research also reveals the need to increase media literacy among the public so that the public is more critical in responding to political news and wiser in receiving information. It is hoped that these findings can contribute to understanding the influence of language in the media on the formation of public opinion, as well as inviting the media to be more responsible in delivering objective and informative news.

The Batak tribe is the largest tribe inhabiting the island of North Sumatra where the Batak ethnic community has a traditional medicine culture inherited by their ancestors from generation to generation in the form of a medical book with Batak script writing. The purpose of this paper is to convey the type or species of plants used in some disease treatments in Batak tribal communities and find out whether the type or species of plants used has data that supports its use as a treatment for a disease based on literature searches. The method used is systematic literature review. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using several databases such as Google Scholar, PubMeb, ScienceDirect, ResearchGate. Based on a study of known references, medicinal plants that are often used by the Batak tribe are plants from the Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Zingiberaceae, and Poaceae families to treat various diseases. Abstract

This study aims to explore the popular English dialect which originated from the black people known as AAVE (African American Vernacular English), where its usage is not limited to the origin community only. Two focuses of this study will be on analysing the grammatical characteristics of AAVE and its underlying factors within the utterances from the three characters in Dumbo film, which are Timothy the mouse, the crow, and the clown by using qualitative method and the theory on AAVE dialect by Walt Wolfram and Rickford. This study applied the qualitative method and the data was gathered from coding character’s utterances. The results showed that the three characters used AAVE grammar, such as verb phrase, negation, and nominals. AAVE grammatical characteristics that were used by the characters are copula absence, completive done, sequential be done, other verbal phrase characteristics, ain’t, multiple negation, objective form them, and second person pronoun y’all. They also showed three factors on the AAVE grammar usage which are social class, age, and linguistic environment. These grammatical features are affected by the character’s class in the society as lower-worker group, character’s age which is in their adolescence, and the linguistic environment surrounding the character which depends on the level of familiarity felt by the characters regarding the topic or the person. The AAVE grammar alongside the factors found in the utterances of the three characters proved that they all represent the African American heritage which is the AAVE dialect despite having different races. The underlying factors influencing their utterances showed that a language will not be exempt from the various variables within the society.

Abstract

This study aims to explain how the Id, Ego and Superego are portrayed in the main character in the novel Dark Places by Gillian Flynn using Sigmund Freud's psychological theory. This  method uses qualitative and the data was taken from the narrative and dialogue related to Libby Day as the main character in the novel. The findings of this study showed that the portrayal of Libby Day as the main character has an unbalanced psychological aspect. The Id in itself is described as more dominant with 10 data than the other two psychological aspects, namely the Ego and Superego, each of which has 3 data. This dominant Id aspect triggers her to be lacking empathy, self-centered, often stealing and cheating when facing difficult situations where the imbalance will have a negative impact on herself and others. However, behind that, it is portrayed that there is still an ego in her that is willing to open her old wounds in order to get money and clear the bad name of her brother who was slandered, and gradually her Ego develops into a Superego where she didn't want her family to experienced difficulties because of her.

Abstract

This research aims to determine how the stages of Merida’s psychosocial development are represented in the Brave movie. This research uses qualitative research as the method and psychosocial development theory by Erik Erikson as the approach. Based on the result of this research, the researcher found that Merida passes five stages of the eight stages of psychosocial development theory, namely: 1) Trust vs. Mistrust is evident as Merida develops a sense of trust and feels comfortable with her mother, 2) Autonomy vs. Shame is evident as Merida develops a sense of independence through playing archery, 3) Initiative vs. Guilt is evident as Merida takes the initiative to pick up her arrow that is off target without asking her parents to accompany her, 4) Industry vs. Inferiority is evident as Merida gains skills through homeschooling with her mother, and 5) Identity vs. Role Confusion is evident as Merida knows her identity and can voice it. In conclusion, Merida is portrayed as a character who undergoes development across various stages of Erik Erikson's psychosocial theory. Her journey from building trust and autonomy to taking initiative, gaining industry skills, and ultimately establishing her identity reflects a complex portrayal of psychosocial growth in the Brave movie.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of deep learning practices in Social Studies instruction within inclusive elementary school classrooms. Within the framework of inclusive education, teachers are expected not only to deliver content but also to create learning environments that are responsive to the diverse needs of all learners. Deep learning, which emphasizes conceptual understanding, the interconnection of ideas, and real-life application, emerges as a promising approach to foster active participation among all students. This qualitative research employed a case study design involving three inclusive elementary schools in Indonesia. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that deep learning practices are implemented through collaborative methods, the integration of local issues, the use of visual media, and differentiated instruction. However, several challenges were identified, including limited teacher training, administrative burdens, and inadequate resources. The study highlights the critical need for inclusive pedagogical training grounded in deep learning principles, as well as institutional support, to enhance the quality of Social Studies education in inclusive classroom settings.

Abstract

Ethnomedicine is a study of the perceptions and constructions of local people in understanding the concept of health and the practice of traditional medicine systems that develop in an ethnic community. Sasak ethnicity is known to have quite rich local knowledge about various types of plants used in healing diseases, including for pain relief. Pain relievers are substances or materials used to reduce or eliminate pain, both acute and chronic. The purpose of this paper is to convey the various plants that are used as pain relievers for a number of diseases among the Sasak ethnic group, and to explore whether there is scientific evidence that supports the effectiveness of their use based on a review of relevant literature. Systematic Literature Review (SLR), in which various scientific articles were collected from a number of databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and ResearchGate. The results show that the types of plants most widely used by ethnic Sasak in medicine are ginger (Zingiber officinale), betel (Piper betle), and kencur (Kaempferia galanga) because of their secondary metabolite content which is anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antimicrobial. The most utilized part of the plant is the leaves (55.5%) because they are easy to obtain and rich in bioactive compounds. The dominant processing methods are boiling (45%) and pounding (37%), while the most common mode of use is drinking (55%). The most commonly treated ailments include fever and heat, followed by headache, internal heat, and wounds.
