Abstract

Baratayuda War as the peak of the biggest war in wayang stories has various important plays, one of which is the fall of Resi Bisma by Worosrikandi marking the turning point of the Pandawa's victory. This study aims to describe the narrative structure contained in a shadow puppet show video entitled “Gugurnya Sang Resi Bismo, Di Tangan Worosrikandi” performed by Ki Seno Nugroho. The show video uploaded on the YouTube channel “Bagong Trend” at the 31:04 to 53:56 time span was studied using a descriptive qualitative approach, based on Tzvetan Torodov's narrative structure theory and structural method. The findings reveal that the narrative does not begin from the equilibrium phase but rather from an initial disequilibrium phase, marked by the horrific conditions of Tegal Kurusetra. Ultimately, the new equilibrium phase is achieved through Bisma’s death at the hands of Srikandi. This episode portrays the conflict between goodness and justice, embodied by characters such as Resi Bisma, Srikandi, and Prabu. Set against the backdrop of Tegal Kurusetra with its tense, tragic, and sorrowful atmosphere, Ki Seno Nugroho employs metaphorical, personification, and hyperbolic figures of speech to create a dramatic impression. The conclusion of this research indicates that the Torodov narrative structure can be applied to traditional wayang plays (lakon wayang), and the performance conveys a strong moral message about justice and the law of karma as its main values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and test the relationship between the application of BT21 character illustrations in a product and its effect on the pragmatic consumption patterns of fans. This study uses a quantitative approach. The sample collection technique used was Purposive Sampling with 284 respondents. The respondents' criteria were K-pop fan groups and not having bought products with BT21 characters at least once a year, with an age range of 16-35 years. Primary data was obtained through an online questionnaire (Google Form) and secondary data through structured interviews. The data obtained was analyzed using SPSS 25, and the hypothesis was tested by bootstrapping regression. The results showed that the illustration of the BT21 character on the product significantly affected the pragmatic consumption pattern among K-pop fans, namely in the ARMY and K-popers group (p < 0.05). However, the illustration of the BT21 character did not significantly affect the pragmatic consumption pattern in the 'Non K-popers' group (p > 0.05).

Abstract

Although Indonesia's distinctive illustration style continues to evolve, anime's visual aesthetic has become one of the most dominant styles among young illustrators. This study explores how anime aesthetics are adapted and expressed in the illustration works of participants at the Senbazuru course center in Yogyakarta and how anime motivates their creative process. A qualitative case study design was used to collect data through observation, interviews, and documentation of works, which was then analyzed. The results show that participants' works display distinctive anime aesthetic characteristics, such as expressive large eyes, simplified faces, and unnatural hair colors. They also incorporate Japanese visual symbols, such as school uniforms and cherry blossoms, in both fan art and original characters. This visual adaptation transforms the anime style according to each individual's personal style, rather than merely imitating it. From a motivational perspective, anime serves as the initial trigger and sustained driving force in the participants' creative process. External factors from community and social environment, combined with internal factors such as personal interest and satisfaction in creating art, form a mutually reinforcing cycle of motivation. As a non-formal education center, the Senbazuru Art Studio facilitates growth in creativity rooted in personal interests and popular culture. By supporting the adaptation of anime aesthetics and encouraging individual expression, the studio plays a crucial role in shaping the visual identity of Indonesia's youth.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and understand the process of creating the Karawitan Sriya Dasami Composition Work, to find out the form and structure of the Karawitan Sriya Dasami Composition Work, to know and understand the value contained in the Karawitan Sriya Dasami Composition Work. The process of creating Sriya Dasami's Karawitan Composition Works is carried out through imaginative and systematic artistic methods, involving six main stages: inspiration, imagination, exploration, formation, refinement, and presentation. This method is rooted in conceptual needs, traditional approaches, contemporary reinterpretations, as well as the empirical experience of creators. The application of this method allows the work to be formed in its entirety with a strong philosophical and musical foundation, and manifested in the form of a presentation based on cosmic symbolism. The creation process is carried out with a musical and visual approach, and utilizes instruments from Gong Kebyar gamelan as a medium of expression. The form and structure of the work are divided into four main sections, which represent the four phases in the astronomical system of the same period. Each piece contains its own musical character with different durations, creating a unique flow dynamic. The main value in this work lies in the efforts of the creator in formulating a new compositional system through the partition of the number ten, as well as the processing of the playing technique that is sourced from the slow but with a contemporary perspective, which reflects the artistic and spiritual identity of the creator.

Abstract

Tari Piriang Suluah is one of the traditional performing arts of the Nagari Gunung Padang Panjang community. It serves not only as a form of entertainment but also as a reflection of the worldview, customary values, and cultural identity of the Minangkabau people. Although it has become an integral part of local cultural life, the aspects of costume and props in Tari Piriang Suluah have received limited scholarly attention, particularly regarding their symbolic meanings. This study aims to explore the symbolic meanings embedded in the costumes and props of Tari Piriang Suluah as representations of the cultural identity of the Nagari Gunung Padang Panjang community. A descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The data were then analyzed using Spradley’s domain, taxonomic, and componential analysis techniques, supported by Clifford Geertz’s theory of symbols. The findings reveal that each element of the costume and props in Tari Piriang Suluah embodies symbols that reflect modesty, religiosity, hard work, spiritual values, and the balance of life within the Nagari Gunung Padang Panjang community. These findings affirm that the visual elements in Tari Piriang Suluah function as a medium of cultural communication and a symbolic system that reinforces local identity and values amid the forces of modernization.

Abstract

Culinary UMKM have great potential in the Indonesian economy, but many of them still lack a strong visual identity to build a professional brand image. Trigel Bakehouse, a home-based bakery established by three women in Semarang, faces similar challenges. This research aims to design the visual identity of Trigel Bakehouse using Robin Landa's Graphic Design Process, which consists of five stages: Orientation, Analysis and Strategy, Conceptual Design, Design Development, and Implementation. Thru this approach, a visual identity system was designed that reflects brand values such as warmth, family, and the quality of homemade products. Design elements include the logo, typography, colors, and supporting media such as packaging, social media, and merchandise, all arranged in a minimalist and elegant style. The results of the design process at the Orientation stage, gathered thru interviews and observations, to explore the background, brand values, and business character. At the Analysis and Strategy stage, the visual condition of the brand, target market, and competitors were analyzed to formulate relevant design strategies. The Conceptual Design phase generates creative ideas thru mindmaps, color selection, typography, and logo development that reflect the values of warmth, family, and professionalism. The Design Development phase finalizes the logo, patterns, and logo versatility for consistent use across various media. The Implementation phase applies the visual identity to business cards, menus, social media, merchandise, signage, pamphlets, packaging, and uniforms, ensuring consistent application across all media. This design resulted in a consistent visual identity that strengthened the brand image, increased brand awareness, and enhanced Trigel Bakehouse's competitiveness in the local culinary market.

Abstract

Animation is essentially a field of study that combines elements of art and technology. In the world of education in the digital era, animation is widely used as a medium or tool for educating learners (children) because it is considered more engaging in delivering information audiovisually compared to media such as books. On the other hand, while knowledge of technology among children continues to increase, their understanding of biodiversity has significantly declined. One example is their awareness of butterfly diversity, even though butterflies play a vital role in the ecosystem. This research aims to design a 2-dimensional (2D) animation that functions as an educational medium to introduce various types of butterflies to children. The animation is expected to present information in an engaging way, thereby capturing children’s interest in learning about biodiversity, especially butterflies. This study uses an animation design method. The project follows a prototype-based development process consisting of design conceptualization and animation production stages. The result of this research is a 2-dimensional (2D) animation titled “Bulan and the Butterflies”, which tells the story of Bulan, a young girl, and a small fairy on a journey to learn about different types of butterflies, particularly those found in Indonesia and rare protected species. The conclusion derived from this study is that this 2D animation can serve as an educational tool capable of broadening children’s knowledge about butterflies and fostering their enthusiasm for environmental conservation. It can also encourage children’s interest in science, insects, and nature from an early age, while strengthening environmental awareness through visual media that is entertaining, educational, enjoyable, and inspiring.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the learning activities of introducing the art of puppetry to grade IV students of MI Al-Islam Kepundung through the activity of making and coloring puppets. The learning activity was carried out to increase students' understanding of traditional cultural arts, especially puppetry as Indonesia's cultural heritage. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study are IV students and teachers. This research highlights the learning process and the work of students. Data was obtained through observation, brief interviews, documentation, and then processed through reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions to describe the course of learning and student creativity. With the stages, the teacher gave an introduction to the puppet character of the Pandawa Lima, and gave an explanation of the cultural values it contains. The results of the study show two learning processes, namely cultural introduction through stories and interactive dialogues, and the realization of students' creativity through real works. The teacher introduced the Pandawa Lima puppet shop and explained the cultural values it contains, then the activity continued with students starting to design puppet sketches according to their own imaginations, then coloring them freely. These two processes complement each other in producing a meaningful and immersive learning experience. The result of children's works is a unique, colorful, imaginative, symbolic, and entertaining creative way. In conclusion, the approach of introducing puppet art through making and coloring activities has proven to be effective in increasing creativity, understanding, and fostering students' love for local culture. This approach can be used as an alternative learning strategy in efforts to preserve traditional arts in elementary schools.
