These adaptations and acculturations make craft art a manifestation that is affected and reflects societal changes that occur in Indonesia or along with the soul of the times.   Keywords: aesthetic transformation, art craft. Authors:Riswel Zam : Institut Seni Indonesia PadangpanjangDharsono : Institut Seni Indonesia SurakartaTimbul Raharjo : Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta References:Adryamarthanio, V. Abstract

The emergence of the Berkain trend since 2017, initiated by the Indonesian art community Swara Gembira, has shown a new fashion style. The younger generation combines traditional Indonesian fabrics with modern clothing products, one of which is shirts with decorative embroidery elements. Data shows that many local Indonesian brands offer women's shirts with simple cuts and limited design development. On the other hand, the decorative elements used are still largely inspired by floral motifs with embroidery techniques that lack variety. This presents an opportunity to develop clothing with more diverse embroidery motifs to create new design variations. This research uses a double diamond approach: discover, define, develop, and deliver, with the application of the craft creation development method: inquiry, design, and reification in the develop stage. The final product of this research is a women's shirt with embroidery motifs inspired by traditional Indonesian dance culture so that it can meet the market's need for varied shirt designs and motifs that are still comfortable and casual to wear in daily activities.

Abstract

This study explores the significance of storytelling in children’s media as a means to reinforce conservation ideology, particularly regarding the protection of Indonesia’s endemic wildlife. By applying Cultivation Theory, a communication framework developed by George Gerbner that posits long-term media exposure can influence an individual's perceptions of social reality, this research emphasizes how early and consistent exposure to conservation-themed content can shape children’s environmental awareness and values. Children’s media, including storybooks, animated films, and television series, serve not only as entertainment but also as a powerful tool for education and character development. Through visual storytelling, messages related to animal protection, ecological balance, and social responsibility can be effectively communicated in ways that are engaging and emotionally resonant for young audiences. The analysis focuses on narrative structures and visual elements, such as character design, setting, color, and sequence, which contribute to a child’s understanding and retention of conservation messages. The study finds that consistent use of symbolic imagery and compelling narratives fosters emotional involvement, empathy toward wildlife, and a sense of personal responsibility in children. This emotional engagement, paired with repeated exposure to conservation themes, strengthens memory retention and encourages pro-environmental behavior. Furthermore, the combination of Cultivation Theory and visual storytelling, supported by psychological principles such as Gestalt theory, proves to be an effective educational strategy. It highlights the potential of children’s media to not only entertain but also to shape attitudes and ideologies that support environmental stewardship from an early age. Ultimately, this research underscores the vital role of storytelling in shaping a more ecologically conscious generation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Sumbang Duo Baleh, a Minangkabau traditional ethical guideline, as a foundation for character education in the digital era. It also explores strategies for integrating these values into formal and informal education to address modern challenges in moral development. This research employs a qualitative approach with a literature review and field observations conducted in schools in West Sumatra. Data collection methods include document analysis, interviews with teachers and cultural figures, and direct observations in educational settings. The data are analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method to examine a the relevance of Sumbang Duo Baleh in shaping students’ character amidst digital transformation. The findings reveal that Sumbang Duo Baleh remains relevant in guiding students’ ethical behavior despite the growing influence of digital culture. Its values can be effectively integrated into character education through curriculum adaptation, teacher and parent involvement, and the utilization of digital platforms. However, challenges such as the declining understanding of traditional values among younger generations and the influence of global digital trends must be addressed. The study implies that strengthening digital literacy with a cultural perspective and fostering collaboration between schools, families, and communities can enhance the effectiveness of character education. This research contributes to developing a character education model based on local wisdom that aligns with modern educational needs.

Abstract

The rise of digital platforms has enabled Generation Z to become content creators, using social media to express themselves, develop personal brands, and monetize their creativity. Maintaining consistency, navigating algorithm-driven competition, and juggling time constraints with creative output presents unique challenges for this generation. Through in-depth qualitative interviews with ten representative respondents, this study investigates the needs and preferences of Generation Z creators in facing these challenges. The study seeks to understand their creative processes, motivations, problems, and expectations for optimal content creation applications. The results show that the target users prioritize features such as trend analysis, audience research tools, and monetization insights. Performance analysis is one of them. Along with community forums for collaboration and inspiration, they also emphasize the need for organizational tools including moodboards, timelines, and integrated notes. Interestingly, most users prefer mobile-first applications with simple and intuitive designs over desktop-based solutions. They also value paid applications free of ads more than ad-supported free applications. These observations guide this paper to explain the Agile thinking process and design of content creation app development. Prioritizing user-centered design concepts, iterative feedback loops, and adaptability help the proposed app empower Generation Z creators by providing relevant, easy-to-use, and effective tools tailored to their needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to design an infographic-based social campaign strategy as a form of representative effort against smartphone addiction in early childhood. This research method is based on qualitative descriptive. Using interviews and field study documentation as research data, this study analyzed the research subjects, parents who have early childhood experiences in Padang Panjang, using the SWOT method. Meanwhile, the object of this research is the visual communication design of social campaigns with the theme of smartphone addiction. The objective of this research can be achieved through four stages: data source analysis, exploration, planning, and realization.  At the realization stage, three infographic posters were created, namely illustrations of children who passively use smartphones as a form of criticism of digital parenting patterns, infographic designs on the bad impact of smartphones on children, and tips so that children are not addicted to smartphones.  This infographic poster is available in both print and digital forms, making it an efficient medium for conveying complex information on social media.

Abstract

The counseling room plays a critical role in supporting psychological recovery, particularly for young adult women in Indonesia who experience a high prevalence of emotional mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. This study aims to examine user perceptions of the physical elements of counseling rooms—specifically lighting, color, and spatial layout—and to identify which components contribute most significantly to psychological comfort. Conducted at the Pulih Foundation Clinic, the research employs a mixed-method case study approach with data collected through structured observation, semi-structured interviews with two psychologists, and a main questionnaire completed by 52 female clients. Instruments used in the survey included the Environmental Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Perceived Restorativeness Scale. The results reveal a clear perceptual dichotomy: while spatial elements such as layout and furniture arrangement were positively perceived, sensory components—particularly lighting and color—received low satisfaction scores and were measured to be below standard comfort levels. The study also highlights the critical importance of acoustic privacy, which received the highest importance score among participants. A strong correlation was found between perceptions of lighting and color, indicating the interdependence of these environmental aspects. Based on these findings, the study recommends targeted design interventions that prioritize the improvement of acoustic insulation and the implementation of adaptive lighting systems. These recommendations aim to support the creation of gender-responsive, psychologically supportive counseling spaces that are attuned to the needs of young adult women in recovery.
