Abstract

Da ’wa is one of the essential parts of religiosity. According to Islam, every believer has the duty to preach Islamic teachings according to his capability. In the real life, this duty is actualized individually or in group. Da’wa includes inviting people to apply religious values and it is not merely done by Muslims. Followers of other religions also have such activity so that they should hcrve the same chance too. However, we should also realize that there are some contradictory doctrines such as tauhid, prophecy, and humanity.Every religion has an important role in human life which has dijferent culture. In spite of the true reasons, cultural diversity, including tribe, religion, and race, is often used to raise conflicts among people. Many conflicts in Indonesia, which seem to be religious conflicts, need to be viewed in relation to politics, economy, and socio- culture of the people. If religious conflicts really exist, it is necessary to build the spirit of togetherness based on the values of justice, freedom, and human rights. It is expected that the deeper the religious spirit, the deeper the sense of justice and humanity. As a result, in developing harmonious society, universal value-oriented da’wa is needed to create the spirit of togetherness and social solidarity.

Abstract

Nowadays, especially in Java, it is difficult to flnd pure and original actualization of Islam. This condition is influenced by the Javanese and Hinduism traditions which had been tightly held by the society before the arrival of Islam. These traditions really influence the spread of Islam. Da’wa cultural approaches which were applied by Da ’i greatly influences the existence of Islam at this time. Without dismissing or changing the social culture, Islamic values are inserted to them and people can easily accept Islam. However, there is a negative effect of this model, which causes the occurrence of sincretism between a religion, in this case, Islam and local culture.

Abstract

Islam is religion which is spread out with da ’wa activities. Without that, it would not be as developed as nowadays. In spreading out Islamic teaching to the mad’u, wisdom is really needed. One way to actualize it is by considering the social conditions of the mad’u. In connection with the plurality of local and national cultures, there are several approaches that can be applied in Islamic preaching. In this application, the cultures of the mad’u should be an important consideration. Among the approaches are bayani, burhani and irfani (textual, contextual, and sufistic esoteric approaches). If these approaches do not work well, realistic approach may be applied. This approach tries to meet the substance of Islamic doctrine and the social condition of the mad’u. In this case, Islam as given religion should show its self realistically in the cultural plurality and it is influenced by its history and social conditions of its mad’u. It is not paradox. As a result, in realistic approach, Islam should be able to show its accomodation to the mad’u and be critical to the development of the society.

Abstract

Darul Arqom was a movement established in 1968 by a Malaysian politician. Its background was the desire to actualize Islam comprehensively like the one in the age of the Prophet. The followers of this movement tried to perform more dzikir and to imitate the way of eating and clothing in the prophet era. In aqidah, Darul Arqom held tightly the principals of Ahlussunnah Waljamaah. In this case, Darul Arqom interpreted the nature of Ahlussunnah Waljamaah as a pure Islamic teaching as it had been applied by the Prophet and his followers. In Fiqh, it refered to Imam Syafi’i and in mysticism, it refered to Imam Ghazali.

Abstract

Kejawen belief teaches that the search for God must be actualized in a set of acts (laku). Laku is the way to achieve the highest level of human’s spirituality. This spirituality is present in the unity between a human being as a God’s creature and Him (manunggaling kawula Gusti). This spirituality becomes the ultimate goal of Javanese mysticism. Apart from Kejawen belief, Islam views that the highest level of human’s spirituality is iman. As a religion, Islam contains fundamental value in human life, that is godly value (iman). Iman will bear a set of values based on one God (rabbaniyah) which builds the awareness that the beginning and the end of life is from God. God is sangkan paran (the beginning and the end) of every creature’s life. Facing the changing society, da ’wa activist should be able to drive social engineering comprehensively by applying amar makruf (emancipation), nahi munkar (freedom) and tukminu billah (theological humanism).

Abstract

The development of Science was a part of God’s revelation which was revealed to His Prophets at the early awakening of human civilization on the earth. This Science then was spread by their followers to make people understand, apply and develop it as a means in running their duty as caliphs. However, after the death of the prophets, people tended to misuse science development. As a result, beside giving some advantages and ease for human activities, it also creates negative effects.
