In business activities, there is a known type of agreement termed as “standard agreement”. This standard agreement is an agreement which is made by only one of the parties involved, and the counterparty is not in the position to bargain with regards to the content of the agreement. The counterparty solely accepts the predetermined terms and conditions in such agreement. Here this kind of agreement indicates that there is inequality of positions between the parties, which is contrary to the principle that “all human beings are equal”, the fundamental principle as the source of human rights. Human rights are carried by each person since birth, and such basic rights are equally owned and must be respected by others. However, in business contexts, efectivity and efficiency are highly considered in running the businesses, and human rights tend to be ignored whether undeliberately or deliberately. This article finds it imperative to analyse the standard agreement in Indonesia in the light of civil law and human rights law. The resulting contracts should contain the distribution of rights and obligations between the parties involved. And to produce a proper contract, business executives are the first to get a complete understanding of how to make their business in accordance with human rights.

Beliefs are founded upon the ultimate being as an ultimate cause or principle. Some claim that the ultimate being, God, emanates itself into many, other claims that God created the world out of nothing. Whatever one believes in, one thing is clear : the ultimate being reveals itself in a spatio-temporal world; in a heterogeneous and not in a homogeneous world. The consequence is : revelation is not only one. There are many different communities with their respective faiths. However, many are not aware of the contingency of their faith. They are trapped into absolutism and try to mold the world into the emporium of their true faith. Blinded by their isolated faith, some use any means necessary, including violence, to attain the highest ideal. The reasoning behind such attitude is the instrumental form of reasoning combined with a high dose of encapsulated faith. This article explores the relation between faith, way of life, values and what kind of reasoning is appropriate in a world of multiple faiths.

Comic dimension, on the one hand, is a human condition. It is a basic precondition for a human being called to be humanum, to be authentic, complete and true human being. ‘Comic’ (laughter) can be seen as a cultural product that has become nurtural. On the other hand, essentially comic or laughter is innate by origin. The nature of human can be conceived as a mammal that is able of distinguishing itself from other mammals. Thus human as mangel wesen (incomplete and weak being) by laughter has a capacity to transcend herself or himself, her or his body and whole life. It might even further to be said that that comic dimension has a capability to save humankind. In a mystical sense, when we laugh, we live through our most fundamental life. Laughter makes life more alive. Laughter becomes a sacred moment, for it is a blending event of the human with the divine, and in turn it brings back men and women to their original nature as a human being.
