Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to reduce waste particularly plastic waste in the city of Surakarta (Solo) by integrating Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) into city events as an effort to enhance competitiveness in the fields of culture, tourism, and the creative economy. Surakarta (Solo) is well known as a cultural center with significant potential in tourism and creative industries. However, various cultural and sporting events often generate large amounts of plastic waste, especially from single-use plastic bottles. To address this issue, the implementation of Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) at city events can serve as an innovative solution that supports competitiveness based on culture, tourism, and the creative economy. RVMs provide the community with an opportunity to exchange used plastic bottles for points or digital incentives, encouraging active participation in waste management, fostering a sustainable economic ecosystem, and increasing environmental awareness among residents. The application of this technology aligns with Asta Cita Surakarta, which outlines the eight regional priority programs of the City of Surakarta for 2025–2030, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The writing method of this research employs a quantitative descriptive approach, chosen to analyze existing data (secondary data) in order to evaluate the relationship between the potential implementation of RVMs and the competitiveness of Solo City in culture, tourism, and the creative economy. Therefore, integrating RVMs into city events not only helps reduce plastic waste but also serves as an effective strategy to strengthen Solo’s competitiveness through the synergy of cultural preservation, tourism development, and creative economic growth.

Abstract

The City of Surakarta is one of the regions in Indonesia with significant potential for the development of its cultural, creative economy, and sports sectors. These three sectors possess a strong appeal for both domestic and international tourists while contributing to the strengthening of the city’s identity. However, the short duration of tourist stays remains a major challenge that hinders the optimal development of Surakarta’s tourism sector. Most tourists only make brief visits without fully exploring the city’s rich and diverse potential. This study proposes an integrative strategy based on inter-departmental collaboration as a solution to extend tourists’ length of stay and enhance the quality of their travel experiences. Two main programs are introduced: the Solo Heritage Run and the City Tour Package. The Solo Heritage Run is a monthly weekend event that combines running activities with the promotion of local culture and culinary attractions, while the City Tour Package offers flexible and educational tour routes that can be enjoyed on any day. Both programs are designed synergistically to integrate educational, economic, and cultural elements into one cohesive experience. The study’s findings indicate that the implementation of these programs has the potential to enrich the qualitative value of tourism, increase the participation of local economic actors, and boost Regional Original Revenue (PAD). This research recommends a cross-sectoral approach as a strategic model for strengthening regional tourism competitiveness in a sustainable and inclusive manner.

Abstract

The recruitment process is one of the main functions of Human Resource Management (HRM) that plays an essential role in ensuring the availability of a qualified workforce that aligns with organizational needs. In the City of Surakarta, the dissemination of job vacancy information is still dominated by national-scale private platforms such as Jobstreet, while local platforms like Siap Ditata Surakarta have not yet been optimized in terms of reach and feature quality. One of the persistent issues is the lack of transparency in the employee selection process, which affects the level of accountability and applicants’ trust in the existing recruitment system. An innovation in the form of a selection stage tracking feature can be integrated into the local job vacancy service. This feature not only provides automatic notifications at each stage of the selection process but also allows applicants to see the number of employers who have viewed or shown interest in their CVs. This innovation is expected to strengthen the core principles of HRM—objectivity, transparency, and accountability—in the recruitment process, while supporting fairer and data-driven decision-making. Through a literature review approach, this study recommends the active role of the Department of Manpower and the integration of the tracking system as a strategy to enhance digital-based public HRM practices that are professional and sustainable.

Abstract

The use of subsidized LPG by MSMEs in the culinary sector faces challenges related to availability and price fluctuations. On the other hand, waste cooking oil (used cooking oil) has potential as an alternative fuel source. Unfortunately, existing waste cooking oil stoves still have weaknesses in terms of ignition convenience, time efficiency, and impractical operation. This study aims to design and realize a prototype of an automatic system–based waste cooking oil stove using the VDI 2222 method to make it easier for MSME operators to use. The VDI 2222 methodology was applied in stages, starting from planning, concept development, detailed design, to prototype completion and testing. The design results show that the microcontroller-based automatic system can ignite the stove in an average of 2.6 seconds and extinguish the flame in less than one minute. The fuel pump, igniter, and blower fan circuits are synchronously integrated through a single control button. Performance testing indicates that fuel consumption efficiency increased with an average usage of 0.12 liters of waste cooking oil per hour, equivalent to 30% of conventional LPG energy consumption. This efficiency has the potential to reduce production costs by up to 16%. With a user-centered design approach and automation technology, this prototype offers a viable alternative solution to support energy independence and the sustainable competitiveness of culinary MSMEs.

Abstract

The City of Surakarta faces serious challenges in traffic safety, with 1,073 accident cases and 41 fatalities in 2024, exacerbated by an average 15-minute delay in accident detection, which can reduce victims’ survival chances by up to 30%. LALINCEK emerges as an innovative solution that utilizes the existing CCTV infrastructure at 84 strategic points across Surakarta to create an automated traffic monitoring and real-time accident detection system. This system integrates YOLOv12 technology with 84.7% vehicle detection accuracy, a homography method for speed estimation with 92% precision, and a deep learning algorithm for anomaly detection with a response time of less than 30 seconds. Unlike conventional systems that rely on manual reports, LALINCEK proactively identifies three critical anomaly types: extreme braking, sudden direction changes, and inter-vehicle distance analysis, then automatically sends notifications to the Transportation Department (Dishub), Police, and Hospitals for a coordinated response. The implementation of this system has the potential to reduce accident response time by up to 60%, increase human resource efficiency by 70%, and directly support Surakarta Zero Accident. LALINCEK can be seamlessly integrated with the Surakarta Smart Governance ecosystem through the platform https://ccroom-dishub.surakarta.go.id/, contributing to four dimensions of Smart City: Smart Governance (service digitalization), Smart Living (enhancing safety), Smart Environment (emission monitoring), and Smart Society (community empowerment), making it a technological investment that delivers real impact on the safety of Surakarta’s citizens.

Abstract

Tourism plays a key role in the economic development and cultural preservation of Surakarta City, yet it remains underdeveloped compared to Yogyakarta, despite their similar geographical and cultural characteristics. In 2024, the number of tourists visiting Surakarta was less than half that of Yogyakarta. To boost Surakarta's tourism, an innovative strategy is required to attract more visitors and foster repeat tourism. This study employs a mixed-method approach, analyzing literature sources using descriptive, comparative, and projective techniques. It examines the factors contributing to Surakarta's low tourist numbers, analyzes the success of Pokémon GO, and formulates SoloVerse, an augmented reality mobile game. Key factors influencing tourism include Surakarta's uniqueness, beauty, cultural diversity, and available attractions. The success of Pokémon GO is attributed to six critical factors: progressiveness, contextual engagement, app positivity, game mechanics, user interest, and expectations. SoloVerse, which integrates these factors, is a location-based game that combines entertainment with educational content about Surakarta's local culture. It is projected to attract 1.3 million users and potential tourists, contributing to Surakarta's regional economic growth. This study offers a strategic recommendation for the Surakarta City Government to enhance tourism competitiveness and serves as a basis for future research on augmented reality games.

Abstract

People with physical disabilities in Indonesia continue to face structural inequalities in accessing the labor market, which leads to low levels of economic independence. This study aims to analyze the impact of applying social cognitive theory in digital skills training as an empowerment strategy for individuals with physical disabilities, in order to enhance their readiness to meet the demands of the modern workforce. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The research informants consist of students with physical disabilities, supporting teachers, dormitory supervisors, and the principal of YPAC Special School in Surakarta. Data validity is strengthened through triangulation of techniques and sources. Data analysis follows the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, & Saldaña, which includes four stages: data collection, reduction, presentation, and verification. The results indicate that the application of social cognitive theory through an innovative concept called the motivation layer comprising three layers: internal self-belief reinforcement, social support, and public validation significantly contributes to increased self-confidence, technical skills, and job readiness among participants. The observed psychological transformation and active participation in the digital sphere demonstrate that training based on social cognitive theory not only bridges the skills gap but also breaks down the psychosocial barriers that have long restricted the mobility of individuals with physical disabilities. The findings recommend that similar training models be implemented on a wider scale to foster an inclusive and sustainable employment ecosystem.
