Abstract

Students, as intellectual individuals who are expected to be able to understand various aspects of life, are also expected to have multitalented abilities. In Wakan Village, which has a strong culture and beliefs and a generally low level of education, people's views on education are often influenced by culture and the assumption that education is not important. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, and data collection through observation, interviews, and data analysis. The results show that students, as the nation's successors and agents of change, play an important role as counsellors in changing the mindset of parents and society in general. As counsellors, students use various approaches, such as reading sermons, teaching diniyah children, and showing polite attitudes and behaviour. Through these methods, students succeeded in influencing the community and creating positive change, which can be seen in the increasing number of children continuing their education to a higher level, with the full support of their parents and the community as a whole.

Abstract

Religious social interaction in society is one of the important aspects that can influence various dimensions of life, including the economy. This study aims to analyze the influence of religious social interaction on the local economy in Bengkarek Village, West Kalimantan. In a society with a Muslim majority, religious social interaction plays a significant role in shaping social and economic life patterns. This research uses a qualitative methodology with a religious sociology approach, with data collection conducted through direct observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was performed through data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that religious social interaction between Islam and Catholicism in Bengkarek, West Kalimantan, has formed a relationship pattern based on mutual respect, enriching the local community's life. In the context of the economy, this interfaith harmony opens opportunities for cooperation in various sectors, such as trade, education, and joint ventures. This harmony accelerates local economic development by fostering trust, supporting social solidarity, and expanding economic networks between individuals or groups. However, the influence of religion also faces challenges, such as potential minor conflicts that could disrupt stability, although positive interactions tend to dominate.

Abstract

Intersubjectivity, relating to the consciousness of two minds, begs the notion that humans can relate simply through the sharing of worlds. In the absence of theoretical principles and inquiry, intersubjectivity relies on the commonality of the human condition to propel understanding. Trials that are intrinsically human, such as sorrow, grief, anger, pain, and suffering, do not necessarily require agreement to be collectively experienced. In social work practice, there is an emphasis on human relationships as an integral vehicle in the pursuit of change. However, this ideal of co-learning rarely exists within the realm of clients’ spiritual and religious lives. Current and past clinical research suggests that there exists a unidirectional system of spiritual and religious knowledge that perpetuates a unidirectional standard of thought that cannot be challenged in the clinical relationship. Considering the influence of worldly, traditional orientations of spirituality and religion, the author argues that clients’ search for the presence of God, the sacred, is compromised and thus require critical reflection to be optimized through the Holy Spirit. In addition, current clinical research highlights cultural, faith-based challenges affecting Christian social workers presented with such clinical environments. This paper seeks to introduce an intersubjective framework for exploring the personal, social, and institutional orientations that influence clients’ search for the sacred, a purpose-filled identity that inspires faith in God. Existential and humanistic theory are incorporated to aid in marrying this seeking of the sacred, and its attendance to self-disclosure and relationship in the pursuit of healing others in clinical practice.

Abstract

The church has been greatly transformed by technology. Many churches have embraced the usage of technology in their ministerial and theological practice. This study examines how these changes are challenging or enhancing current theological practices. This is addressed based on three proposed questions which are; What are the perceptions on the usage of technology by the church? What are the benefits of digitalization to the church? What are the challenges or implications posed by technology to the church? This qualitative study utilizes a theological and interpretive framework in trying to undestand the relationship between technology and religion through the Christian perspective. Data was collected from 12 participants from the Christian faith of which 4 (33%) were pastors and 8 (67%) were disciples. The participants were between the ages of 18-52 in range. Out of the 12 participants, 5 were females and 7 were males. Semi-structured interviews were carried out following snowballing sampling method. The results revealed that technology has positively impacted the church, bringing in new beneficial strategies in spreading the gospel to the world. While technology has been helpful, it has also resulted in unforseen challenges the church has to deal with which include cyber related crime.  There is a need to strike a balance to ensure that modern technology does not dillute the original message of the gospel.

Abstract

This study aims to explore religious moderation within the Balinese diaspora community in Lombok, influenced by social, cultural, and political interactions between the Hindu Balinese and Muslim Sasak communities. The research method employed is a literature review, analyzing historical sources and academic studies on the relationship between these communities. Despite historical tensions, religious moderation has proven to foster harmony through shared social practices and rituals, such as the Topat War Festival in Lingsar. This study shows that religious moderation not only mitigates conflicts but also strengthens social solidarity amidst religious diversity. This moderation is reflected in daily practices and shared traditions, creating spaces for interfaith dialogue and mutual respect. In conclusion, religious moderation is a crucial element in maintaining social cohesion and harmony in Lombok, serving as a model for multireligious societies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article explores how Islamic symbolism is used by political and business elites in Northeastern Kenya to obscure corrupt practices and maintain public legitimacy. Using a qualitative research design, the study draws on 40 semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and field observations across Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera counties. Five thematic findings emerge: the strategic use of religiosity for image control, institutional silence by religious leaders, community tolerance through moral trade-offs, ritualised governance performances, and widespread public cynicism coupled with resignation. While many participants recognised the disconnect between religious symbolism and ethical leadership, Islamic rituals and language continued to be effective in shielding elites from scrutiny. The study contributes to political sociology and Islamic studies debates by showing how religious identity when strategically performed, can serve as a moral shield that complicates accountability in fragile governance environments.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine how framing practices in online media reporting shape public perceptions of demonstrations against the ratification of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Act (TNI Act). Using the framing theory developed by Robert N. Entman, this study analyzes and compares three news articles published by Kompas.com, Metrotvnews.com, and Tempo.co. The main focus of the study is on identifying framing patterns that encompass four main dimensions: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and recommendations for addressing the issue. This study uses a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis within the framework of Entman's framing analysis. The objects of study are three news reports covering the demonstrations against the TNI Law and the revision of the Polri Law that took place on March 27, 2025, in the area of the DPR Building, Central Jakarta. Each text is analyzed systematically to examine the construction of the narrative and the differences in perspective raised by each media outlet. The results of the study show that Kompas.com and Tempo.co tend to frame the demonstrations as a form of civil resistance against state policies that are considered to threaten the principles of democracy and civil supremacy. In contrast, Metrotvnews.com emphasizes the dimension of public order, highlighting the dispersal of the crowd by the authorities as a measure to restore social stability. These findings reinforce the argument that media plays a strategic role in shaping public discourse and the direction of collective perceptions toward political issues and state policies.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of universal religious values in supporting religious moderation as an effort to create harmony and tolerance among religious communities. Universal values such as compassion, justice, peace, fairness, religious freedom, respect, unity, welfare, moderation, balance, tathawur wa ibtikar (moderation and innovation), are able to balance the situation of the people amid differences and conflicts. Using a literature review method from relevant journals, this article highlights how the application of these values can reduce extremism and religious conflict, as well as strengthen social cohesion in a pluralistic society. The results of the study show that religious moderation rooted in universal religious values can be an effective solution in facing the challenges of pluralism and contemporary social dynamics.
