Abstract

COVID-19 has impacted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) business in Indonesia. One of the efforts of MSMEs to survive is by migrating to the digital market. The city government of Samarinda grabs the opportunity by releasing a mobile application called Behambinan. This study examines the Behambinan communication strategy to empower MSMEs, considering the apps as an innovation for the digital market in Samarinda. The Diffusion of Innovation Theory helps to parse the communication strategies of this innovation. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive by conducting in-depth interviews with the Communication and Information Office of Samarinda City and its stakeholders as key actors of the diffusion process. The Behambinan application is currently at the dissemination stage to act effectively as the local digital forum for buying and selling. This study found some challenges during the diffusion process. First, MSME players (adopters) have difficulty understanding the application due to the lack of digital literacy and technical issues such as not having a smartphone and high expense for internet quotas to run the application. Second, the misalignment of interpersonal communication between key actors. Third, weaknesses in promotional strategies. This study found that interpersonal communication through localite channels has a significant role in the diffusion process. An integrated communication strategy among key actors and well-planned execution of localite and cosmopolite channels is essential to engage MSMEs and the public.

Abstract

Tenaga kerja berpendidikan dan ahli akan meningkatkan daya saing Indonesia secara global. Namun, laporan Badan Pusat Statistik (kasus di Kalimantan Timur) menunjukkan bahwa tenaga kerja saat ini justru didominasi oleh lulusan SMA. Penelitian terdahulu menemukan bahwa faktor finansial dan kurangnya pemahaman akan pentingnya pendidikan tinggi menjadi penyebab seseorang tidak melanjutkan pendidikan tinggi. Memperhatikan masalah tersebut, dosen-dosen lintas fakultas dari Universitas Mulawarman membuat sebuah kegiatan mentorship sebagai bentuk pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk berbagi motivasi dan strategi dalam mendapatkan pendidikan tinggi dengan beasiswa. Targetnya adalah mahasiswa, lulusan baru, dan partisipan umum di Samarinda dan kota-kota sekitarnya. Sebanyak 31 mentee direkrut melalui registrasi online yang kemudian mengikuti pertemuan tatap muka dan online antara Juli hingga September 2019. Tim pelaksana juga berkolaborasi dengan Universitas Mulawarman, Kantor Wilayah Direktorat Jenderal Pembendaharaan dibawah Kementerian Keuangan dan Golden Gate Education Samarinda dalam kegiatan ini. Kesimpulannya, diketahui tiga kemampuan penting yang perlu ditingkatkan yaitu: strategi dalam memilih perguruan tinggi, Bahasa Inggris dan kepenulisan akademik.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan dengan melibatkan satu mitra UMKM yaitu Bukuan Fried Chicken (BFC). Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra adalah tidak memiliki pengetahuan tentang fotografi produk sehingga tidak adanya foto produk yang dapat ditampilkan dalam media sosial maupun media cetak, di tengah ketatnya persaingan UMKM khususnya di bidang ayam siap saji. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut maka diperlukan pengarahan pada mitra melalui pemanfaatan fotografi produk dengan smartphone sebagai upaya peningkatan kualitas promosi. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mitra dalam peningkatan kualitas promosi produk dengan fotografi produk. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah dengan metode pendampingan. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah terdapat peningkatan kualitas foto produk yang didapat oleh mitra selama pelatihan dan juga turut meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia, khususnya kompetensi kemampuan entrepreneur.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan melibatkan 1 mitra UMKM yaitu Bukuan Fried Chicken (BFC). Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra adalah lokasi yang tidak spesifik sehingga sulit ditemukan oleh calon pelanggan serta kondisi pemasaran yang terbatas disebabkan karena minimnya pengetahuan mitra mengenai pentingnya penerapan strategi pemasaran dan pemanfaatan teknologi digital dalam menjalankan sebuah usaha. Permasalahan pada mitra diatasi dengan memberikan arahan pada mitra melalui pemanfaatan Google My Business untuk membantu dalam mengelola usaha mitra dengan mudah dan tanpa dipungut biaya. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan wirausaha dengan dibekali dengan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi sehingga mampu menghasilkan omset yang diharapkan. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah dengan metode pendampingan. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah usaha mitra telah berhasil terdaftar dan terverifikasi pada Google Maps dan Google My Business. Usaha mitra juga telah berhasil mendapatkan 450 kali penelusuran dan 35 review bintang 5 yang positif. Hal ini menunjukkan akun Google My Business mitra telah berfungsi dengan baik sebagai media yang memfasilitasi kegiatan digital marketing.

Abstract

Abstrak: Salah satu masalah pengelolaan keuangan yang dihadapi pelaku UMKM di daerah rural adalah utang piutang yang dilakukan kepada pelanggan tanpa jaminan tertulis. Hal ini umumnya dilakukan pelaku UMKM atas dasar nilai sosial untuk membantu sesama dengan sistem kepercayaan. Namun, penelitian terdahulu menemukan hal ini dapat menimbulkan kerugian bisnis jika debitur melakukan wanprestasi. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pengelolaan utang piutang sebagai mitigasi risiko usaha melalui pembuatan perjanjian sederhana bagi 10 pelaku UMKM di Kelurahan Simpang Pasir, Kota Samarinda. Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan berupa sosialisasi dan pelatihan dengan pendekatan interpersonal mengingat perjanjian tertulis merupakan inovasi bagi pelaku UMKM. Tim penulis melakukan empat langkah yang dimulai dengan identifikasi masalah dengan observasi awal, penyusunan rencana kegiatan dengan brainstorming dengan mitra, pelaksanaan kegiatan berupa sosialisasi dan pelatihan dari rumah ke rumah, serta langkah terakhir yaitu monitoring dan evaluasi. Seluruh pelaku UMKM menyatakan memahami cara pembuatan perjanjian tertulis dan 7 dari 10 pelaku UMKM akan mengimplementasikan perjanjian sederhana. Pengabdian ini juga menghasilkan rekomendasi kepada Kelurahan setempat untuk memberikan pelatihan serupa dalam rangka pemberdayaan UMKM di masa datang.Abstract: Debts owed to customers without written guarantees are one of the financial management problems of MSME actors in rural areas. MSME actors gave loans to customers based on social values to help others with a belief system. However, previous research has found that this can cause business losses if the debtor defaults. This service activity aims to improve the ability to manage accounts payable as a business risk mitigation through making a simple agreement for MSME actors in Simpang Pasir Village, Samarinda City. Community service activities are carried out in socialization and training with an interpersonal approach considering that written agreements are an innovation for MSME actors. The authors carried out four steps, starting with problem identification with initial observations, preparing activity plans by brainstorming with partners, implementing activities in the form of socialization and house-to-house training, and the last step, monitoring, and evaluation. The results obtained through this service activity are an increase in the knowledge and ability of MSME actors to make written agreements in managing accounts payable with customers. This service also resulted in recommendations to the local Kelurahan to provide similar training in the context of empowering MSMEs in the future.

Abstract

Covid-19 has presented a new set of challenges in every area; higher education is one of them. The pandemic has resulted in a shift in teaching and learning communication methods, creating a new structure for digital-based education. This study investigates this phenomenon through the perspective of Castells’ Network Society Theory to see the relational capacity of education in rural Indonesia. In his view, Castells summarized a distinctive concept between the flow of time and space in a networked society. The current space deals specifically with the center of social organization today where places around the world have been connected in a dynamic sector. As geographic discontinuity serves as a source of relational chaos, context and innovation will determine how a place prospers or decline, even though all will be integrated into the network society. Therefore, it is important to identify opportunities and challenges in the current scenario so that academic and government leaders can address them through the right innovations. This study conducted a survey to determine the perceived conditions of online learning by students. In addition, this study also used secondary data from scientific journals, government and non-government publications, books from various authors, websites, and public data as well as various other sources of information. The results of this study indicate that the provisions of online learning are new to limit the learning process in several ways, such as networks, costs, and interactions between lecturers and students. In the perspective of the Castells’ Network Society Theory, the resuts of this study see students and lecturers as digital victims, especially in the context of teaching and learning.

Abstract

Community service activities carried out by students can be a form of collaboration to support Government programs, one of which is the verification and validation of the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS). The main problem faced by the local government in managing DTKS is the lack of human resources and objectivity of officers, so the data obtained often does not match the criteria. The Handil Bakti Village initiated the collaboration for verification and validation of DTKS with students as one of the joint-student service programs in the local government. As a form of strategic communication, the local government takes steps starting from planning, situation analysis, target analysis, goal formulation, message framework preparation, message dissemination strategy, and measurement and evaluation. Students verify and validate DTKS by conducting interviews with recipients in 14 RTs. The results obtained are accurate and objective DTKS data following the criteria set by the government and students gain an understanding of DTKS data collection.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explain the communication strategy applied by Brand X in the diffusion process of their alternative channel innovation. As one of the top brands of low/sugar-free sweetener brands, Brand X innovates alternative channels to answer the opportunities that present themselves. This research focuses on the stages of innovation-decision process, namely the knowledge stage, persuasion stage, decision stage, implementation stage and confirmation stage. The research method used is qualitative research method and data is collected through interviews and documentation studies. The results of this research show that at the knowledge stage, communicators conduct surveys and observations to each retail destination before introducing the innovation. This activity helps communicators in recognizing retail needs and becomes a reference in developing messages at the persuasion stage. At the decision stage, communicators utilize social media to establish communication with retailers who reject the innovation with the aim of building interpersonal relationships. At the implementation stage, communicators help retailers implement the innovation. However, it was found that in Samarinda, the communication at the confirmation stage was not consistent.

Abstract

Disaster mitigation capabilities are part of the amenity’s aspect, one of the pillars of developing tourism villages. To realize this, the community needs to be actively aware of disaster risk potentials and able to minimize the impact of future disasters. Disaster resilience at urban village level (KELANA) is one of the efforts to form a community that is responsive and able to deal with disasters. As many as 85 participants attended this training in Bontang Kuala. The participants have received the socialization materials and evacuation training provided by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bontang City, according to the formative evaluation of the activities. In addition, based on the interview, it is known that disaster mitigation assistance needs to be carried out on an ongoing basis using information media and disaster education, as well as the presence of disaster mitigation agents to enhance awareness and community expertise in responding to potential disasters in the Bontang Kuala urban village.Kemampuan mitigasi bencana menjadi bagian dari aspek amenities yang menjadi salah satu pilar dalam pengembangan desa wisata. Untuk mewujudkan hal tersebut, masyarakat perlu secara aktif memahami potensi bencana di wilayahnya, serta memiliki kemampuan untuk meminimalisir dampak bencana di masa depan. Pelatihan Kelurahan Tangguh Bencana (KELANA) merupakan salah satu upaya untuk membentuk masyarakat yang tanggap serta mampu menghadapi bencana di Kelurahan Bontang Kuala. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 85 orang peserta dari berbagai kalangan masyarakat. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta menerima dengan baik materi sosialisasi dan pelatihan evakuasi yang diberikan oleh Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) Kota Bontang. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh hasil evaluasi formatif yang dilakukan selama pelaksanaan kegiatan. Selain itu, berdasarkan hasil evaluasi sumatif dengan metode wawancara kepada beberapa peserta, tokoh masyarakat dan pihak kelurahan, diketahui bahwa pendampingan mitigasi bencana perlu dilakukan secara berkelanjutan dengan menggunakan media-media informasi dan edukasi, serta kehadiran agen-agen mitigasi bencana untuk mematangkan kesadaran dan keahlian masyarakat dalam menyikapi potensi bencana di Kelurahan Bontang Kuala.

Abstract

The ability to use different Internet-mediated forms is a basic competence in the digital era, which indicates that women, too, need to have adequate digital skills for daily activities. However, previous studies found that women have a lower digital literacy index than men due to their sociocultural role and expectations and less motivation to engage with technology among older individuals. Digital competence is essential to enhance digital inclusivity, especially for women in East Kalimantan Province, following the future challenges of the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) development and Indonesia Digital Vision 2045. This study employed a quantitative approach, which entailed adapting seven dimensions of digital competence from the DigComp 2.0 model as research instruments: basic knowledge of hardware and software, information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, security, problem-solving, and career-related competencies. This study involved a sample size of 538 women. The findings offer theoretical insights into the employment of the DigComp 2.0 model within a specific context and recommendations for women’s empowerment strategies. The result showed that women’s digital competence level in East Kalimantan was high, except for the content creation and problem- solving. Another intriguing finding is that the level of education was not directly related to the level of digital competence, which contradicts previous studies. Future studies could employ the same instrument to corroborate the findings in this study across diverse sociocultural contexts in Indonesia. Another direction is to consider psychological variables that could influence digital competence.
