Abstract

Considering that the Qur'an consists of a series of Arabic letters arranged in strings of words and sentences, is a medium where signs are messy, so one approach that seems interesting and relevant is the semiotic approach which examines how sign works and its function in the text of the Qur'an. Semiotics  is a discipline that examines signs found in society. Meanwhile, the Al-Qur'an using language as a medium is fertile ground for semiotic studies. In the Qur'an, there are signs that their meanings can be studied by using semiotics. The Qur'an has basic units called verses (signs). Signs in the Qur'an are not only small parts of the elements, such as sentences, words or letters, but the totality of the structures that connect each element is included in the category of signs of the Qur'an. This shows that the entire form of the Qur'an is a series of signs that have meaning.

Abstract

Abstract From the 20th century to the 21st century, feminist model of interpretation has been developing rapidly. The majority of feminist interpreters, both men and women, criticize the centrality of men in interpreting the Qur'an.They emphasize the argument that the interpreter's gender bias is still dominated by men, most of which have shaped the paradigm of understanding the Qur'an and Islam in general. In contrast to secular feminists, Muslim feminist scholars do not reject Islam itself. Instead, they refer to the Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah to support their claim that the Qur'an needs to be reinterpreted. This research specifically tries to study and explore the concept of gender equality in Islam, especially in the perspective of Muhammad Syahrur's hermeneutic thinking. This research analyzes the real relationship between men and women in Islam, whether the views of past scholars are still relevant in positioning the status of men and women. In other words, this research tries to carry out a contemporary reading of the gender equality concept in Islam, which specifically refers to Muhammad Syahrur's hermeneutic. On this basis, this study uses an analysis-hermeneutic approach. Through Syahrur's hermeneutics, the researcher critically analyzes the relationship between men and women in Islam, and carries out a contemporary reading of it. Therefore it is expected to be able to produce a new thought product about gender in Islam that is more contextual and in accordance with the dynamics of the times. Abstract

This study tries to investigate the use of qirā`at shādhah in Shia interpretation. The discussion about qirā`at shādhah in the study of al-Qur`an exegesis is still interesting to examine. It is indicated that different perspectives can affect the realization of understanding the Qur'an. This can be seen, for example, in the debates of al-Shāfi'i and Mālik with Abū Ḥanīfah and Aḥmad in understanding surah al-Māidah verse 89 which explains about the fine for violation of oaths which results different legal products. The use of qirā`at shādhah seems to have also been of concern to the Shi'ah interpreters. Al-Ṭabāṭabā'ī for example in al-Mīzan fi Tafsīr al-Qur'ān stated that permissiveness of mut'ah marriage  was mentioned in the QS. al-Nisā 'verse 24 which was corroborated by qirā`at shādhah Ubay bin Ka'ab, Ibn Mas'ūd, and Ibn Abbās. Meanwhile, al-Shawkānī Shi'a scholar taking the Zaidiyyah thought,  argued otherwise. Nikah mut'ah is not allowed because the argument is interrogated (mansūkh). This means that qirā`at shādhah is also an important term for the Shi'ah group to be used as a tool for analysis in producing new laws in the products of their interpretation. Therefore, this paper will look at how the existence of qirā`at shādhah in Shia Interpretation work, especially the differences between their scholars regarding it. In addition, the discussion of qirā`at in Shi'ah is still rarely found. As a comparison, this paper will describe the terms nikah mut'ah and imāmah.

Abstract

Abstrak Ada dua istilah dalam kajian tafsir al-Qur`an, yaitu mā ḥawla al-Qur`ān dan mā fī al-Qur`ān. Istilah yang pertama merujuk pada pembahasan al-Qur`an dengan titik tekan pada aspek sosio-historis dan antropologis masyarakat Arab pada masa turunnya al-Qur’an. Sedangkan istilah yang kedua merujuk pada upaya penggalian makna sejati dari setiap kata bahkan setiap huruf di dalam al-Qur`an. Jika bentuk kajian kedua ini biasanya berupa karya tafsir, maka bentuk kajian yang pertama lebih banyak berupa prinsip dan metode baru yang digunakan dalam menafsirkan, atau bahkan bisa berupa kritik terhadap model, sistematika dan metode penafsiran klasik. Dalam studi yang sederhana ini, kita akan menggali dan mengeksplorasi pemikiran salah satu sarjana muslim kontemporer terkemuka yang mampu melakukan kajian terhadap kedua wilayah tersebut secara bersamaan, yaitu M. Izzat Darwazat. Lewat kitab al-Tafsīr al-Ḥadīth-nya, M. Izzat Darwazat mempopulerkan sebuah model penyusunan kitab tafsir dengan menggunakan sistematika tartīb al-nuzūl (sesuai urutan turunnya sūrah al-Qur`an) serta mengenalkan metode penafsiran al-Qur`an dengan menggunakan prinsip-prinsip hermeneutika. Kata Kunci; M. Izzat Darwazat, al-Tafsīr al-Ḥadīth,tartīb al-nuzūl dan Hermeneutika.

Abstract

One of the social problems in the world, especially in Indonesia today, is the prevalence of hoax reported  in various mass media. The emergence of this news not only confuses various levels of society, but even defames the reputation of certain parties. This article aims to explain how the view of the Qur'an in responding to the hoax phenomenon. By using the thematic interpretation approach initiated by al-Farmāwī, the author aims to describe the verses of the al-Qur`an which are related to the issue of news and the story of ḥadīts al-ifk that afflicted 'Āisyah.

Abstract

The study of al-Ibrīz's interpretation at Pesantren Raudlatut Thalibin Rembang is attended by various groups of people, both from parents and young people, employees, farmers, traders and retirees. The various backgrounds of the congregation there, in terms of age and profession, make different beliefs or awareness of the congregation regarding the recitation of al-Ibrīz and their way of internalizing the religious values ​​contained in the recitation. By using qualitative methods and a phenomenological approach to religion, this study seeks to portray a picture of the culture and awareness of the recitation community towards the study of al-Ibrīz interpretation at pesantren Raudlatut Thalibin, Rembang. The research shows that the participants believe that the recitation of al-Ibrīz interpretation is a field of blessing, a way to get closer to Allah Subḥānahu wa Ta'ālā, connect silaturrahmi, add insight, fill spare time, seek fortune and expect the efficacy of al-Ibrīz's tafsir closing prayer for their goals to be come true. Meanwhile, the way the congregation internalizes the religious values ​​contained in the recitation of al-Ibrīz's interpretation through four stages, namely listening carefully, reviewing it, applying it within oneself, and make it habit in daily life.

Abstract

Muslim’s approach to the holy book al-Qur ʻan is expressed in various activities, reading, memorizing, writing, transcribing, and others. The copying of Al-Qur ʻan has been being strictly controlled by the rasm used, rasm uthmani and rasm imla'i, and the copies has been being maintained by the museum, pesantren, collectors, heirs and others with various purposes and interests. This paper examines the manuscripts of the Mushaf al-Qur ʻan H. Habibullah from Konang Village, Bangkalan, Madura from the aspect of using rasm, vowels and punctuation. The result of this study is that the copying of the manuscripts of the Mushaf al-Qurʻan H. Habibullah is inconsistent in applying the rules for writing rasm uthmānī and rasm imlā'i from the rules for discarding letters, adding letters, writing hamzah, changing letters and writing punctuation (harakat). The writing of this Mushaf manuscript also came out of the corridors of the rules for writing rasm uthmānī and rasm imlā'i. This inconsistency was influenced by the absence of a reference basis for writing the Mushaf at that time, as well as the unfamiliarity of Nusantara Muslims with the Arabic language rules, nahw-ṣarf.

Abstract

This study aims to examines the meaning of zawj in al-Qur'an. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive-analysis method.  The meaning of zawj in the Qur'an is very vareative. In the Koran with various derivations, the word zawj is 21 derivations contained in 72 verses of 43 surahs and is mentioned in 81 times. The researcher used the semantic analysis of al-Qur'an which was initiated by Toshihiko Izutsu who tried to address the world view of Qu'ran (weltanschauung) through semantic analysis of the vocabulary and key terms in the Qur’an. This research concludes that the basic meaning of the word zawj is something that is not singular or something that has an equivalent. Zawj can be interpreted as: a husband in the surah (al-Mujādalah [58]: 1;wife in the surah (al-Baqarah [2]: 35; a partner, namely Allah created all beings in pairs (az-Dzariyat [51]: 49;animals are male and female pairs (al-An'ām [6]: 143), plants (al-Syu'arā [367]: 7); and groups (al-Wāqi'ah [56]: 7. In the pre- Qur'anic, the word zawj is defined as a rug. In the Qur'anic period it is divided into two, namely Mecca and Medina. The Mecca period has a close meaning with the sign of the greatness of Allah and the pleasure that Allah gives. The Medina period contains the laws of separation. In the post-Qur'anic period, the word zawj describes gender equality, that men and women are the same components without being differentiated, so that there is a harmonious life in pairs.

Abstract

Ibn Abbas got the nickname Tarjaman Al-Qur ʻan from the scholars. This indicates his expertise and depth in understanding al-Qur ʻan. His coronation as the foundation of the science of interpretation indicates the depth of experience one has in the world of interpretation. The interpretive construction in the form of history makes it difficult for the reader to describe the pattern of interpretation carried out. However, searching and studying the narrations can describes patterns of interpretation, themes, pathways, and patterns of interpretation. Therefore, this study focuses on the history of Ibn Abbas's interpretation of QS. al-Baqarah: 1-141. The results of this study indicate that the themes of Ibn Abbas' narrative are divided into seven types, ghaibiyat originating from the Prophet, characteristics derived from ijitihad, the meaning of the recitation of verses coming from Arabic, stories sourced from the Prophet and friends, Allah's promises are from the Prophet, the name and asbāb al-nuzūl is also a conviction that comes from the Prophet.

Abstract

Acculturation is a social process arising from a particular culture which is confronted with other cultural elements, so that these elements can be accepted without losing their own cultural character. This study focuses on the interaction of the Qurʻan with Javanese culture, especially on the procession of traditions that undergoes Islamization, where Al-Qurʻan is involved in it. This occurs during the recitation of Surah of Yūsuf and Maryam in the seventh-month tradition (mitoni) in Jurug village, Mojosongo District, Boyolali Regency. The research problems discussed in this study are the causes which arises the factors of the emergence of a new culture, the factors that indicate the recitation of the Surah of Yūsuf and Maryam of Jurug village people. This study uses a qualitative research method. Data collection of this study uses participatory observation, including; interviews, observation, and documentation. With this acculturation concept, the researcher sees how the Qur'an began to infiltrate the daily lives of Jurug village people, and then uses it in the implementation of mitoni tradition by reciting the Surah of Yūsuf and Maryam in the procession of it. From the available data, as well as from the concept of acculturation, the researcher comes to a conclusion that the recitation of surah of Yūsuf and Maryam in Jurug village disseminates and grows as a norm that is believed to bring goodness and blessings to the mother and the baby she is carrying.
