This article analyzes the mawḍū'ī method of interpretation. This study aims to identify and explain the differences in the mawḍū'ī interpretation method between Muhammad al-Ghazālī and Abd al-Ḥayy al-Farmāwī. Seeing from the significant differences in operationalizing the mawḍū'ī method of interpretation, in which Muhammad al-Ghazālī interprets the verses of the al-Qurʻan departing from the text then sees reality while Abd al-Ḥayy al-Farmāwī interprets the verses of the al-Qurʻan departing from reality then sees the text. Through the analysis of the history of the idea of the Quranic interpretation of Ignaz Goldziher, this study shows that the concept of the mawḍū'ī method offered by Muhammad al-Ghazālī and Abd al-Ḥayy al-Farmāwī is very different. The concept offered by al-Ghazālī is interpreting al-Qur ʻan according to the order of the surah or tartīb 'uthmāni which contains a theme and is related between one part of the chapter and another, so that the face of the surah seems like a perfect and complementary form. Meanwhile al-Farmāwī interprets al-Qur ʻan by compiling all the verses on the same theme, putting them under one title then interpreted by the mawḍū'ī method. The implication of the mawḍū'ī method offered by Muhammad al-Ghazālī for the final result of interpretation is the birth of a comprehensive-systematic work, while the implication of the mawḍū'ī method offered by Abd al-Ḥayy al-Farmāwī for the final result of interpretation is the birth a work of applicative-realistic interpretation.

One of the efforts to maintain the law of siyāq (context) is by applying the concept of i'tibār al-maāl to naṣ texts (al-Qur`an and Hadith). It is because the text is general understanding while the law is static, so if the law is applied, it will not regard at a person's condition and context, nor will it even see the effect of the law and its origin. Such law is not allowed in Islamic law which prohibits the application of law regardless of the context of the incident and the application of the law. Therefore, this discussion comes with a qualitative-descriptive method to analyze the concept of i'tibār al-ma’āl and its application in surah al-Nisa' especially in social verses. This concept is part of Imam Malik's method of exploring law, and it seems tobe lack of discussion or reference in Indonesian, even the Arabic references are also rarely. On the other hand, surah al-Nisa is one of the long chapters and discusses a lot about social society, for example about how to build a good family strategy to build a good society.

This article examines the answer of Abdul Ilāh Ḥūri to the accusation of ideologization in tafsīr ayāt aḥkām (Qur’anic exegesis on the legal verses) through his work Asbāb Ikhtilāf al-Mufassirīn fī Tafsīr Ᾱyāt al-Aḥkām. The tendency to ideologize these schools of tafsīr can be understood not only because of the writer's background as a demonstrative school activist, but other factors are also very influential on the resulting tafsīr ayāt aḥkām products, such as: differences in using the rules of al-'ibrah bi 'umūm al-lafẓi lā bi khuṣūṣ al-sabab or vice versa, differences in choosing qirā'at, differences in interpreting siyāq (context) or in his term that is called mā fī al-Qur'ān and mā ḥaula al-Qur'ān.

Mushaf Pojok Menara Kudus is one of the most popular printed manuscripts for Indonesian publishers. This manuscript has its own uniqueness, namely from the writing model that does not use the Indonesian standard rasm (rasm Uthmāni). This research examines the history of writing the Mushaf Pojok Menara Kudus, the form of rhyme used and the characteristics of the Mushaf. The research is in library research, with primary data sources are interviews, kitab-kitab, books and other literature related to the Uthmāni rasm, rasm Imla'i and Mushaf Pojok Menara Kudus. This research concludes that Mushaf Pojok Menara Kudus is a copy of the Mushaf belonging to the caregiver of the Yanbu 'Al-Qurʻan Islamic Boarding School, KH. Arwani Amin, Mushaf Bahriyyah originating from Turkey. Every corner of the page always begins and ends with a verse and that's why this mushaf is called a corner mushaf. The rhymes used in the Mushaf Pojok Menara Kudus are mixed rasm, namely the Uthmāni rasm and the Imla'i rasm. The type of rhyme used then has several implications such as making it easier for reciter and memorizers, but it is troublesome for the common reader with the lack of instructions for Tajweed reading and the number of waqaf signs that have the same function.

Siyāq (context) has an important role in determining the meaning when interpreting the verses of the Qur'an. A sentence, expression, or language of text cannot be known and understood without looking at the context, either the language context or the context of the situation behind the text. This study uses a qualitative method with a siyāq (context) approach as an analysis tool for Muhammad Izzat Darwazah's interpretation in the book al-Tafsīr al-Ḥadīs. This is taken in order to find out how siyāq (context) is functioned, when and where it is used based on contextual theory, Dirāsah Mā fī al-Qur'ān and Dirāsah Mā Ḥaul al-Qur'ān theory. This study shows that in interpreting the verses of the Qur'an, Izzat Darwazah uses siyāq (context) to describe the meaning of the verses, determines the Makiyah and Madaniyah verses, determines some of the placement of Madaniyah surahs order.

This article examines the controversy of AsḥÄb al-Qaryat (Residents of the land) in the YÄsÄ«n surah. AsḥÄb al-Qaryat is one of the stories told by al-Qur Ê»an, but his name has been changed. A polemic arised among exegeses about the name of the country referred to in this YÄsÄ«n surah. Some exegeses including al-Ṭabari mentioned that the country in question was Aná¹Äkiyah (Antioch, including the territory of Turkey). While other exegeses rejected this opinion, Ibn KathÄ«r for example, with the arguments he built, critically rejected al-ṬabarÄ«'s opinion above. The polemic of these two commentators is very important to be studied considering that the books they wrote are both included in the category of bi al-ma'thÅ«r tafsir, namely interpretations built on the narrations of the Prophet Muhammad, his companions, and tÄbi'Ä«n. This article concludes that in interpreting AsḥÄb al-Qaryat, al-Ṭabari tends to be textual by using the israiliyyat narrative text while Ibn KathÄ«r rejected it by holding on to the context of verse 15 of Surah YÄsÄ«n and based on historical evidence. This research is a study of the Tafsīr Jalālayn Karangasem Sedan Manuscript, Rembang by focusing on ḥāshiyah contained in the manuscript. Kiai Syarbini, Karangasem believes that the Tafsīr Jalālayn Karangasem manuscript contains the Tafsīr Jalālayn text which contains interpretations from surah al-Fatihah to surah al-Kahfi. In this manuscript there is additional information that contains an explanation of the words in the Qur’an and words in the Tafsīr Jalālain. By using the theory of intertext, this study seeks to search for and find what books are used as references in writing of ḥāshiyah contained in manuscript Tafsīr Jalālain Kiai Syarbini Karangasem. In intertext theory, a text cannot be alone. The appearance of the text is caused by the help of other texts. This research succeeded in identifying the books used as a reference source in the ḥāshiyahTafsīr Jalālayn manuscript, which include: Tafsir al-Bayḍāwī, Tafsir al-Qurṭūbi, Tafsīr al- Ṣhāwī, and Tafsir Mafātiḥ al-Ghayb.The findings of this manuscript are indicative of the existence of Tafsīr learning as well as efforts to provide comments on earlier interpretations than previously thought, at least in the 19th century Rembang area which is said to have experienced a learning emptiness of tafsir books.

This article reveals the sirri knowledge of the work of a scholar 'namely Shaykh al-Būnī entitled Shams al-Ma'ārif al-Kubrā. In this research, the writer uses intertextual theory, which assumes that a text cannot stand alone except with other texts. Al-Būnī himself is known as a Sufi who has a scientific nature from various scholars' to the Prophet. The data of this research show that this book discusses some secret scientific matters, including the secret verses of the Qur’an which can be used as a health treatment for any disease. From the expressions in his book, there is a continuity with several hadiths, the opinions of scholars and other books that become his references. He also have listed several other media besides al-Qur'an which have certain properties which are described by the Al-Qur'an such as the benefits of Misk oil supported by surah al-Fatihah which can be used as medicine. Ibn Qoyyim also explained that the oil itself could be used to facilitate breathing. The conclusion obtained from this study is that the verses of the Qur’an as medication that are listed by al-Būnī in his book are supported by several other books as well as the support of the Qur’an which mentions nutritious ingredients which are also mentioned by al-Būnī in its medication medium. Meanwhile, the verses of the Qur’an listed by al-Būnī for health treatment include surah al-Fātiḥah, al-Ḥashr, al-Burūz, Asmā 'al-A'zām, al-Kahfi, Maryam, and Asmā'ul Ḥusnā.

This article examines the interpretation of the Qur’an about the story of the crucifixion and the lifting of the Prophet 'Īsā to the sky in Tafsīr Muqātil bin Sulaymān with a focus on the study of tracing the source of interpretation and its authenticity in surah Ᾱli Imrān verses 54-55 and surah al-Nisā' verse 157- 158. The choice of Muqātil bin Sulayman as a research subject is because he is a controversial one among the Muḥaddithīn of his doubtful credibility. In his interpretation Muqātil does not mention sanad and commentary related to history so this needs to be examined in depth. However, the superiority of Muqātil in its interpretation is that it is able to tell the story in the al-Qur'an in detail such the story of the prophet Isa. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that Muqātil bin Sulayman explained that the man crucified by the Jews was not 'Īsa but the person who was identic to him named Yahūẓā, while' Īsa was purified by Allah from the Jews by lifting him up to the sky of the earth from Bait al-Maqdis on night of Lailatu al-Qadr in Ramadhan at the age of thirty-three years. Overall Muqātil did not clearly state the sources of its interpretation, and after going through the process of tracing and muqaranah from the literature of other books, eight narrations are found.

Al-Qur`an is a medium of interaction between God and humans by using Arabic. This interaction uses a variety of sentences, including an interrogative sentence. The interrogative sentence does not only function to ask for information but is intended for other purposes according to the context of the narrative. People who do not speak Arabic, how to understand the interactions contained in the Qur'an depends on the translation into their language. This study examines the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affair’s translation of IstifhÄm verses with a focus on surah al-Baqarahjuz 1. The method used in this study is descriptive-analysis method witha translation theory for IstifhÄm verses or introgative sentences. This method is used to determine the consistency of the translation and the value represented in the translation. This study concludes that the translation is consistent in selecting equivalent words. Meanwhile, inconsistencies occur in the translation of the question word hamzah by thereason of  more appropriate considered diction for the translation. Sometimes hamzah is translated using the question word "apakah (whether)", the particle "kah", "mengapa (why)", and "tidak (not)". In general, the 11 verses, the object of the author's study, are translated into the form of interrogative sentences. Keywords: IstifhÄm, translation, Al-Qur`an, tafsir
