Abstract

Nike symbolizes the Greek goddess of strength, speed, and victory, which is often reflected in the brand's visual narratives. This research, titled "Symbols in Nike Advertisements on YouTube Media (A Semiotic Analysis)," aims to analyze how symbols are represented and interpreted in Nike’s “What If You Can” advertisement through the lens of Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory. Using a qualitative approach and virtual ethnographic method, this study examines 10 selected advertisement scenes published on YouTube. The analysis identifies 10 denotative meanings—such as a student sitting alone on school stairs—and 10 connotative meanings—such as emotional struggle and the pursuit of dreams. Additionally, the study reveals 10 myths that reflect broader ideological constructs, including perseverance, empowerment, and modern youth identity. These findings underscore how advertising, as a cultural text, constructs layered meanings through visual symbols and contribute to shaping audience perceptions. This research highlights the significance of semiotics in understanding media messages and recommends further studies involving various platforms and audience demographics.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis ngalab barokah sebagai media internalisasi nilai adab santri di Pesantren Nasy’atul Muta’allimin Sumenep dalam perspektif sosiologis. Tradisi pesantren tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai sistem pendidikan formal, tetapi juga sebagai ruang reproduksi nilai melalui praktik-praktik kultural yang hidup dan diwariskan secara turun-temurun. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dengan informan utama, observasi partisipatif, serta dokumentasi kegiatan pesantren. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik ngalab barokah terwujud dalam berbagai tradisi seperti ziarah kubur, Gerbat (Gerakan Batin), Jum’at Bersih, dan menata sandal kiai. Tradisi-tradisi tersebut berfungsi sebagai mekanisme internalisasi nilai adab melalui pembiasaan, keteladanan, dan tindakan simbolik yang dilakukan secara kolektif dan berulang. Secara sosiologis, keyakinan terhadap barokah membentuk kesadaran spiritual yang melahirkan kepatuhan moral tanpa tekanan struktural, memperkuat otoritas kiai, serta membangun solidaritas sosial antar santri. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa ngalab barokah bukan sekadar praktik ritual, melainkan sistem kultural yang efektif dalam membentuk habitus adab santri. Temuan ini memperkaya kajian sosiologi pendidikan Islam dengan menunjukkan pentingnya dimensi simbolik dan spiritual dalam proses pembentukan karakter di pesantren.

Abstract

This research analyzes the behavior of underage unregistered marriages (nikah siri) conducted by couples from the perspective of Law Number 16 of 2019 concerning Amendments to Law Number 1 of 1974 on Marriage. The main focus of this study lies in Article 7 paragraph (1), which stipulates that the minimum legal age for marriage for both men and women is 19 years. The research method used is library research with a statutory approach. The results show that underage unregistered marriages occur due to several factors, including economic conditions, low levels of education, and attempts to avoid adultery (zina). However, from the perspective of positive law, this practice has no legal validity because the marriage is not registered with the Marriage Registrar (Pegawai Pencatat Nikah/PPN), thereby violating the administrative requirements set by the state. The absence of legal recognition results in the loss of legal protection for the wife and children, including difficulties in obtaining civil rights such as birth certificates and inheritance rights. Although Law Number 16 of 2019 provides a legal mechanism through Marriage Dispensation in the Religious Court, unregistered underage marriages are still considered a form of legal circumvention, as they disregard the protection of children's rights and undermine the long-term objective of family stability mandated by the law.
