Abstract

Writing simple sentences is a fundamental skill that supports the independence of students with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to explore the learning experiences of students with intellectual disabilities in composing sentences through the combination of the Think Pair Share method and picture series media. This qualitative research uses a phenomenological approach to understand students' personal experiences in learning. The research was conducted at SMPLB Negeri Karangrejo, Madiun Regency, involving students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. Data were collected through participatory observation, simple guided interviews, and analysis of students' work. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in learning experiences. The findings show that picture series help students visualize ideas and determine the sequence of stories, while discussions with friends provide opportunities to practice arranging words into sentences verbally before writing. Students feel more confident and motivated when learning involves interactive and visual activities. This study concludes that a combination of cooperative methods and visual media creates a meaningful learning experience for students with intellectual disabilities in developing writing skills.

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom through folklore into learning can strengthen students' character education in a contextual manner. This study aims to identify the character education values contained in the folk story "Ki Ageng Mangir" from Bantul Regency and analyze its potential as a teaching material for character education in elementary schools. This qualitative research uses content analysis and value analysis methods. Data were collected through document studies of the folk story text, interviews with cultural experts and elementary school teachers in Bantul, and analysis of relevant learning documents. Data were analyzed using an interactive model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the story of Ki Ageng Mangir contains strong character values, including nationalism (love for the homeland, courage in defending sovereignty), integrity (consistency of principles, responsibility), religious values, social care, and critical thinking skills in responding to conflicts and moral dilemmas. This folklore has great potential as character education material because it is geographically and culturally close to students, contains dramatic conflicts that are interesting for children, and presents complex character dilemmas that can trigger moral reasoning. This study concludes that the folklore of Ki Ageng Mangir can be effectively integrated into elementary school learning through various approaches, including storytelling, role-playing, and value analysis, to strengthen students' character education.

Abstract

The development of listening skills in elementary school requires innovative and interactive strategies to overcome students' passivity. This study aims to interpret the essence of students' lived experiences in interactive listening learning through the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) method and podcast media. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with six fifth-grade students and one teacher at SDN Nglandung 03, as well as participatory observation of the learning process. Data analysis followed the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method, involving horizontalization, thematization, and textural-structural description. The findings reveal three essential themes of the learning experience: (1) Podcast as an auditory stimulus that builds imagination and deep focus, (2) The "Pair" and "Share" stages as spaces for social validation and collaborative meaning construction, and (3) The transformation of the listening process from a passive-receptive activity to an active-interpretive one. This study concludes that the integration of TPS and podcasts creates a holistic learning experience that involves cognitive, affective, and social dimensions simultaneously, making listening a more meaningful and contextual activity for students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation and improvement of simple essay writing skills through the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, based on images of the legend of Lake Ngebel, among sixth-grade students at Kepet 02 Elementary School in Madiun Regency. The main problem in this study was the low quality of students' writing and the lack of use of innovative media in learning. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), consisting of the pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II stages. The results showed a significant increase in student activity and learning outcomes. In the pre-cycle stage, the average activity and essay quality scores were in the low category (score 2.00). After implementing the PBL model, students' active involvement in discussions and their ability to compose coherent essays increased dramatically. The conclusion of this study is that the integration of local wisdom through images in the PBL model effectively improves students' writing skills and cultural literacy

Abstract

This research is based on the importance of speech activities as a form of public speaking practice that plays a crucial role in improving students’ communication skills. Through speech extracurricular activities, students are trained to build self-confidence, improve pronunciation and intonation, and enrich their vocabulary and grammatical competence, all of which contribute to the development of linguistic intelligence. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of speech extracurricular activities at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah An-Najihah Babussalam, explain their role in fostering students’ linguistic intelligence, and identify the aspects of linguistic intelligence developed through these activities. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed through data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through persistence and triangulation. The results show that speech activities are implemented through structured stages, including role division, speech text preparation, rehearsal, and performance. These activities effectively enhance students’ reading comprehension, vocabulary mastery, writing ability, critical thinking, effective communication, public speaking skills, and attentive listening.

Abstract

This study explores the linguistic features of advertisements found in Madiun and examines how these advertisements can be utilized effectively in Bahasa Indonesia instruction at SD Lembah 02. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through content analysis of 30 advertisements (print, outdoor, and digital), classroom observations, interviews with one Bahasa Indonesia teacher and 12 students (grades IV–V), and analysis of lesson plans and student works. Data were analyzed thematically focusing on (1) linguistic and rhetorical features of ads, and (2) pedagogical practices and potentials for classroom implementation. Results show that advertisements in Madiun commonly employ persuasive devices (slogans, imperatives, hyperbole), concise lexical choices, and visual–verbal interplay that are highly suitable for teaching vocabulary, text structures of persuasive texts, critical literacy, and students’ writing production. The study proposes a set of model activities and assessment rubrics for integrating local advertisements into Bahasa Indonesia lessons to enhance relevance, motivation, and communicative competence.

Abstract

Students with dyslexia in inclusive classes often face specific challenges in developing vocabulary, which is the foundation for reading and writing skills. This study aims to analyze the role of moving word cards (flash cards) in developing vocabulary for dyslexic students through a "Market" role-playing simulation. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, conducted in an inclusive class at SDN Prambon, Madiun Regency. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with classroom teachers and special accompanying teachers (GPK), and analysis of student work documents. Thematic data analysis shows that the use of flash cards in role-playing simulations provides a multi-sensory and contextual learning experience. This media helps dyslexic students in recognizing, understanding, and using new vocabulary related to market themes in a more meaningful way. The role-playing simulation creates a low-anxiety environment that encourages active verbal communication. The integration of visual, kinesthetic, and auditory elements through this media significantly supports the strengthening of lexical representations in the memory of dyslexic students. These findings offer practical implications for the use of game-based media in language learning for students with specific learning difficulties in inclusive settings.

Abstract

This research, entitled “The Influence of Celebrity Culture on the Identity Formation of the Main Character in the Novel ‘On a Night Like This’ by Lindsey Kelk,” aims to analyze the protagonist's identity transformation. The study has two primary objectives: first, to identify Fran Cooper's initial identity characteristics before her exposure to celebrity culture, and second, to examine how celebrity culture influences her identity formation through the mechanisms of social categorization and social comparison. Employing a qualitative method with descriptive analysis, the data was collected through close reading and selection of relevant excerpts from the novel. The theoretical framework of Social Identity Theory by Tajfel and Turner (1979) is applied to guide the analysis. The findings reveal that Fran's identity evolution occurs through three distinct stages: Social Categorization, where she defines her in-group and out-group; Social Identification, where she adopts the norms of her new group; and Social Comparison, where she measures herself against celebrities, leading to a significant shift in her self-perception. This research concludes that celebrity culture acts as a powerful catalyst in the reformation of Fran Cooper's identity.

Abstract

This study examines the portrayal of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in Lily Bloom, the protagonist of Colleen Hoover’s novel It Ends With Us, through the theoretical lens of Gerald Davison’s Abnormal Psychology. A descriptive qualitative methodology was employed, with data collected through close reading and note-taking techniques. The analysis identifies three core PTSD symptom clusters experienced by the character: re-experiencing, avoidance, and hyperarousal. Furthermore, the study reveals trauma-induced impacts on emotional stability, relational dynamics, and life-altering decisions. The research also highlights four recovery mechanisms: writing as therapeutic processing, establishing a support network, assertive decision-making, and self-acceptance. This study underscores literature’s nuanced representation of PTSD and offers insights into psychologically resonant coping strategies within interpersonal trauma contexts. Future research is suggested to explore cinematic representations of PTSD in the film adaptation of It Ends With Us, with particular focus on non-verbal cues such as physical demeanor and facial expressions.
