Abstract

This study is a literatur study with a descriptive approach. The main query of this articel is: “What is the meaning of sacraments as the special ways to encounter God?Its purpose is to maintain that the sacraments are the special ways to encounter Christ because, in the sacraments, Christ is present and doing our salvation. Because of Christ’s presence in the sacrament, they confer grace. God’s grace in the sacramental celebration is abundant. Grace is a gift from God, given freely at God’s initiative unmerited and undeserved by us. But this gift does not come cheap. To have a fruitful effect on one’s life, the sacraments must be received in a good (proper) disposition and the grace of the sacraments must be put into practice. Sacraments are the special ways to encounter Christ. They are “doors to the sacred,” the Holy One.

Abstract

This paper is a of qualitative research. It aims to describe the concept of hope according to Pope Benedict XVI in his Encyclical Spe Salvi and its relevance to the reality of human suffering. The main question of this paper is: “What is the relevance of the teachings of the Encyclical Spes Salvi to the suffering of modern humans?” This paper maintains the idea that suffering is part of human existence, and is closely related to human sin and limitations. However, hope changes the way individuals and communities view suffering. Christian hope encourages concrete actions for social justice and spiritual renewal, gives courage, purifies and strengthens faith, increases solidarity and compassion in the community. This encyclical teaches that hope is an active force that encourages personal and communal transformation, concrete action, and social solidarity, creating a stronger and more loving community.

Thus, family harmony between different churches can be created and sustained if there is mutual acceptance. The theological orientation used in this marriage practice aligns with an inclusive orientation which involves recognition of other religions, openness and acceptance, and does not require changing the other person’s religious beliefs.

Abstract

Sufism cannot be separated from the tradition of texts; it is based on the inspiration of Divine Revelation, infused with faith (tawhid), and experienced in practice. This practice is the ‘path of purity and simplicity’ (fuqara, faqir) aimed at uniting with God. Sufism is taught by the Sufis, who are “the chosen ones of God,” according to Reynold A. Nicholson in The Mystics of Islam. Alternatively, according to the author of al-Luma’, as quoted by Nicholson, this term refers to the prophets, who are chosen for their purity, inspirational knowledge, and commitment to carrying out God’s mission. This paper is a textual analysis of existing Sufi works, combined with early Islamic traditions in Indonesia regarding faith and morality. The author employs historical and hermeneutic approaches to understand the traces of Sufism in Indonesia, as well as the mystical speculation and morality that have been essential spirits in the spread of Islam.

Abstract

One type of parish income is the collection given by Catholics every Sunday. The collection is usually allocated for worship activities, sustenance, and services to the poor. This paper is sociological research with a quantitative approach. It aims to analyse the financial literacy of Catholic families in the Sacred Heart and the Mother of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Associations, and its influence on collections at the Saint Joseph Passo Parish. The main question addressed is: “To what extent does the financial literacy of Catholic families influence collections every Sunday at the Saint Josep Passo Parish?” The results of the questionnaire test showed that the parishioners believe that the blessings they receive must be given to God. Therefore, they consciously and willingly give collections at the Eucharist every Sunday. However, the research test proved that the financial literacy of Catholic families did not have a significant effect on the collections of parishes. This article proposes that financial literacy needs to be given to every Catholic family in the Parish of Saint Joseph Passo so that they are able to manage family finances according to household needs, and give collections at the Eucharist Celebration every Sunday.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the concept of integral ecology according to Pope Francis as a solution to the escalating global environmental crisis. Pope Francis, in his encyclical Laudato Si’, calls humanity to adopt an ecological perspective that unites environmental, social, cultural, and spiritual dimensions for the common good. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, this study examines literatures and related documents on Pope Francis’ view, especially as outlined in Laudato Si’. This approach is applied to understand the core principles of integral ecology, including the balance between humans and nature, collective responsibility, and intergenerational justice. The study reveals that integral ecology offers a holistic perspective encompassing various aspects of life, requiring the involvement of all societal elements, both individuals, communities, and nations, to contribute to environmental preservation. This concept also emphasizes the importance of ethical and spiritual aspects in fostering a healthy relationship between humanity and nature.

Abstract

The traditional notion of sovereignty consists of the idea of an absolute, indivisible power possessed by the state enabling it to regulate its own affairs, achieve the purposes for which it was created and to safeguard its own integrity. Today, however, the triumph of economic globalization and the independence of capitalist production and exchange from political control have contributed to what is perceived as the decline of the nation-state. In this regard, this paper will be concerned with the concept of sovereignty as it is exercised by nation-states. Given this connection between sovereignty, violence and injustice, this paper argues that violence is an essential constitutive element of sovereignty.
