Abstract

Teluk Patipi District in Fakfak Regency, West Papua, faces complex governance challenges, particularly in ensuring transparency and accessibility of public information amid persistent infrastructure deficits. Comprising thirteen villages distributed across coastal and forested terrain, this district confronts severe limitations in electricity supply, internet connectivity, and inter-village transportation networks. Through an ethnographic approach and in-depth interviews conducted between August and December 2025, this study examines the adaptive strategies employed by the district government in managing and disseminating public information. Findings reveal three complementary strategies: face-to-face communication through monthly coordination meetings with village heads and door-to-door information visits; revitalization of traditional media including bulletin boards, mosque and church loudspeakers, kentongan (traditional percussion instruments), and official correspondence; and selective digital technology adoption through WhatsApp group optimization within signal-available zones. These strategies reflect contextual development communication principles, demonstrating that institutional effectiveness in remote areas is determined more by socio-cultural relevance than by technological sophistication.

Abstract

Social media has increasingly repositioned pesantren-based religious instruction from closed, face-to-face gatherings into open, platform-mediated spaces, a shift clearly visible in the TikTok Live broadcasts hosted by Pondok Pesantren Darullughah Wal Karomah (Maktuba DWK) in Kraksaan, Probolinggo. Employing a qualitative case-study design, this research gathered data through non-participant observation, digital documentation, in-depth interviews, and analysis of audience interaction, then analyzed the material using the interactive model of Miles et al. (2014), with trustworthiness confirmed through triangulation. The findings reveal that pesantren preaching is being mediatized, moving away from single-source authority toward participatory, dialogical exchange; that TikTok's recommendation algorithm functions as a gatekeeping mechanism regulating the reach of religious broadcasts; and that religious authority is continually renegotiated among the pesantren, its audience, and the platform. The study proposes a Pesantren Algorithmic Da'wah Ecosystem model, extending mediatization-of-religion theory within the Indonesian pesantren context and offering practical insight for digitally engaged religious institutions.

Abstract

This article examines how political rhetoric contributes to the formation of power legitimacy in contemporary political communication. Rhetorical scholarship has mapped persuasive strategies and linguistic devices in political speech, while discursive legitimacy studies have explained mechanisms of justification, yet the two traditions have rarely been connected explicitly. Using a qualitative conceptual approach grounded in literature review, this study synthesizes scholarship on classical rhetoric, critical discourse analysis, political legitimacy, discursive legitimation, and populism. The findings show that ethos, pathos, and logos operate in layered configurations across cognitive, moral, and pragmatic bases of legitimacy, and that contemporary political rhetoric functions bidirectionally, legitimizing political actors while simultaneously delegitimizing opponents, institutions, or competing narratives. Building on these findings, the study proposes the Layered Rhetoric-Legitimacy Framework, integrating rhetorical pillars, legitimation mechanisms, legitimacy bases, dual directionality, and temporal vulnerability, and offering an analytical tool for future empirical research on political speeches and digital political communication.

Abstract

Digital platforms have reshaped how Islamic preachers, or da'i, communicate with younger audiences, and YouTube has become a central stage for this transformation. This study examines the da'wah rhetoric of Ustadz Handy Bonny on the YouTube channel @oneummahmovement, focusing on two episodes, KOUM #40 and KOUM #11, both addressing the theme of hijrah among young people. Following the qualitative case study tradition of Creswell and Poth (2024), narrative excerpts, viewer comments, and video documentation were examined descriptively. Findings show that Handy Bonny integrates the three Aristotelian pillars of ethos, pathos, and logos through colloquial diction, humor, and personal storytelling within a structured narrative moving from an opening anecdote to Qur'anic grounding and closing reflection. Audience comments reveal predominantly positive cognitive, affective, and conative responses, consistent with the uses and gratifications framework of Katz et al. (1973). The study concludes that this informal, emotionally resonant style effectively strengthens youth religious engagement in digital da'wah spaces.

Abstract

The phenomenon of religious hoaxes on social media poses a serious threat to the social cohesion of a plural society because it touches the dimension of belief and easily arouses emotion. This study aims to map the phenomenon of religious hoaxes and their causes and impacts, to elaborate the principles of Islamic journalism ethics derived from the Qur'an and hadith, and to formulate their implementation as a strategy for countering religious hoaxes. It employs a qualitative approach with a library research design and a descriptive-analytical content analysis technique. The findings show that Islamic journalism ethics rests on four main principles, namely tabayyun (verification), shidq (truthfulness), 'adl (justice), and mas'uliyah (responsibility). The principle of tabayyun in QS Al-Hujurat verse 6 serves as an epistemological foundation that positions verification as a moral obligation consistent with modern journalism. Countering religious hoaxes requires a layered strategy combining the internalization of values at the individual level, MUI Fatwa No. 24 of 2017 at the normative level, the Journalistic Code of Ethics at the professional level, digital literacy at the community level, and regulation at the state level.

Abstract

This study examines the community-based strategy developed by the Youth Movement for Mosque Love, known locally as Gerakan Pemuda Cinta Masjid (GPCM), in revitalizing the prosperity of mosques in Sampali Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation involving GPCM administrators, mosque officials, and congregation members as key informants (Abdussamad, 2021; Sugiyono, 2016). The findings show that GPCM strengthens mosque functions through four interrelated efforts: sustaining routine religious study circles, engaging youth directly in mosque programs, organizing religious and social welfare activities, and utilizing social media for da'wah dissemination (Nudin & Fakhruroji, 2023). Despite constraints such as limited funding and coordination gaps, the community's enthusiasm and its collaborative relationship with mosque administrators have revived congregational participation and social cohesion, positioning the mosque once again as the center of communal religious life.

Abstract

This qualitative research, designed as a descriptive case study, explores in depth the dakwah method developed by Ustadz Yahya Sembiring in strengthening the religious understanding of the Muslim minority community in Sugihen Village, Juhar District, Karo Regency, while also mapping the obstacles encountered throughout the coaching process. Primary data were obtained through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with the preacher, congregation members, and local traditional figures, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that Ustadz Yahya Sembiring consistently practices a wisdom-based (bil hikmah) approach that is highly sensitive to the sociocultural character of the Karo people, operationalized through two complementary methods: bil lisan, expressed through gentle sermons and dialogic study sessions, and bil hal, manifested in exemplary conduct, social assistance, and infrastructure development. Together, these methods have gradually reduced social resistance and sustainably improved the community's religious literacy despite persistent structural and cultural constraints.

Abstract

This study examines the empowerment of adolescents through da'wah and educational programs organized by the Regional Executive Board (DPD) of the Indonesian Mosque Youth Communication Body (BKPRMI) in Medan City. The research was motivated by declining adolescent involvement in mosque-based activities alongside the growing prevalence of social problems among youth, including delinquency and inter-group conflict. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing developed by Miles and Huberman (1984). Findings indicate that the programs strengthened adolescent participation, cultivated practical and leadership skills, and fostered disciplined, socially responsible character. Da'wah activities, skills training, and community service formed the core of the intervention. Despite constraints such as limited time and uneven motivation, sustained managerial effort combined with government and community support enabled the program to function as a promising model for mosque-based youth development across Indonesia.

Abstract

Excellent service has become a decisive factor of competitiveness in the souvenir retail sector as tourist mobility in Bandar Lampung continues to rise. Teras Oleh-Oleh Nusantara positions itself distinctively by offering souvenirs from other regions, yet internal records reveal thirty-one consumer complaints during January–March 2026, concentrated in reliability, responsiveness, and empathy, suggesting weaknesses in how the owner and employees communicate with consumers. This study describes and analyzes the communication patterns applied in delivering excellent service through a qualitative descriptive approach, drawing on in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving purposively chosen owner, employees, customers, and resellers, with credibility maintained through triangulation and member checking. Findings show that primary, face-to-face communication and circular, two-way communication dominate daily service interactions, whereas linear, one-way communication surfaces only occasionally in internal miscommunication. Assurance adequately meets consumer expectations, while responsiveness, reliability, and empathy still show gaps during peak hours, pointing toward the need for consistent digital updates and evenly distributed personal attention.

Abstract

The digitalization of Islamic preaching in Indonesia is now marked by religious chatbots, digital exegesis systems, and content-recommendation engines, yet these machines possess neither scholarly chain of transmission (sanad) nor moral consciousness, making interpretive authority an urgent concern for the religious-moderation agenda. This study identifies models of artificial intelligence use in religious-moderation da’wah, analyzes their epistemological and ethical challenges, and formulates a regulatory framework integrating traditional and digital ijtihad. Employing a library-research method on twelve primary sources, comprising journal articles from 2020–2025, Ministry of Religious Affairs documents, and statements from the Indonesian Ulema Council and Nahdlatul Ulama, analyzed through the Miles and Huberman interactive model, the study finds three dominant models of artificial-intelligence-assisted da’wah, identifies the absence of sanad and moral awareness in machines as the principal epistemological challenge, and proposes a supervised digital-ijtihad framework synergizing ulema, government, and technology developers under the principles of maqashid al-shariah.
