Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to communication patterns in society, including the practice of Islamic da‘wah. Da‘wah, which was traditionally delivered through conventional face-to-face methods, has gradually transformed into digital da‘wah that utilizes internet-based media and creative content. Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) as Islamic educational institutions play a strategic role in responding to this transformation, particularly in preparing students (santri) to actively participate in da‘wah activities that are adaptive to the digital era. This study aims to conceptually examine the mentoring of creative digital da‘wah content at Pondok Pesantren Riyadlatul Ulum, East Lampung, as an effort to strengthen Islamic da‘wah in the digital age. The research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method by reviewing and analyzing relevant academic literature, including scholarly journal articles, reference books, and official publications related to digital da‘wah, creative content, digital literacy, and the role of Islamic boarding schools. The findings indicate that mentoring creative digital da‘wah content plays an important role in enhancing students’ digital literacy, creativity, and awareness of ethical media practices. Furthermore, such mentoring contributes to strengthening the institutional capacity of Islamic boarding schools as centers of moderate, contextual, and sustainable digital da‘wah. Therefore, mentoring creative digital da‘wah content can be regarded as a relevant strategy for developing pesantren-based Islamic da‘wah in the contemporary digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) identify the development of communication theory in the context of digital disinformation; 2) analyze the limitations of classical communication theory in explaining the phenomenon of algorithm-based communication; and 3) formulate a framework for reconstructing communication theory that is more adaptive to contemporary challenges. The study uses a qualitative approach with the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the PRISMA protocol for indexed articles from 2015–2024. The analysis is conducted through a thematic approach to map conceptual transformations in digital communication studies. The results of the study indicate that: 1) A paradigm shift from linear communication to multidirectional and decentralized networked communication; 2) Classical communication theories such as agenda setting, Two-step flow, and the spiral of silence have limitations because they have not integrated the role of algorithms, platforms, and non-human actors in the communication process; and 3) A framework for reconstructing communication theory that is based on three main principles: network communication, the integration of algorithms as non-human communication actors, and strengthening digital literacy. The resulting model includes four main components: human actors, algorithmic actors, platform structures, and socio-political contexts that interact in shaping the circulation of digital information. This reconstruction is expected to enrich the development of digital communication theory and serve as a conceptual basis for mitigating disinformation in the era of platformization and artificial intelligence.

Abstract

Public information disclosure constitutes a fundamental element in realizing transparent, accountable, and participatory governance. This study analyzes the collaborative communication strategy of the Komisi Informasi Provinsi Jawa Barat (West Java Provincial Information Commission) in strengthening the implementation of public information disclosure at the regional government level. Based on Karl E. Weick’s Organizational Information Theory, this research examines how collaborative communication processes contribute to sensemaking, reduce information ambiguity, and create adaptive communication systems within the regional bureaucratic environment. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, utilizing interviews, observations, and analysis of official documents issued by the West Java Information Commission. The findings indicate that the Commission’s collaborative communication strategy operates through three main stages: enactment (the construction of meaning and problem identification), selection (the determination of effective communication strategies), and retention (the institutionalization of sustainable communication practices). Through integrated Public Information Officer (PPID) forums, public mediation processes, and digital campaigns, the West Java Information Commission has successfully strengthened cross-sector coordination and fostered a culture of transparency within regional government institutions. This study concludes that collaborative communication functions not only as an instrument of coordination but also as a mechanism of organizational learning that enhances public participation and trust in information institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the reconstruction of self-disclosure theory in the context of Islamic counseling in the era of social media that increasingly dominates contemporary human communication patterns. The development of digital platforms has fundamentally changed the way individuals reveal themselves, including in counselor-client relationships based on Islamic values. This study aims to analyze the relevance of classical self-disclosure theory according to Western psychology perspectives with the principles of self-disclosure in Islamic teachings, and to reconstruct a new integrative and contextual conceptual framework in accordance with the challenges of the social media era. The methodology used is a systematic literature review with a content analysis approach to relevant primary and secondary sources, covering Islamic counseling literature, communication psychology, and social media studies. The results show that self-disclosure theory needs to be reconstructed by incorporating the dimensions of amanah, digital mahram, and internet ethics as core components in social media-based Islamic counseling practice. This reconstruction produces an integrative model called the Islamic Self-Disclosure Model (MSDI) that holistically considers aspects of spirituality, Islamic ethics, and digital literacy. These findings contribute to the development of Islamic counseling practices that are adaptive to technological changes without abandoning the foundation of sharia values.

Abstract

This study examines communication management planning in the new student admission process at International Women University (IWU) as an effort to enhance the effectiveness of promotional activities and increase prospective students’ interest. In the context of increasingly intense competition among higher education institutions, a well-planned and systematic communication strategy has become a crucial factor in achieving admission targets. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants include members of the management team, public relations officers, and administrative staff directly involved in the student admission process. Data were analyzed descriptively to identify communication patterns, implemented strategies, and challenges encountered. The findings indicate that IWU has implemented a comprehensive communication planning process, encompassing situation analysis, target audience identification, selection of communication media, program implementation, and evaluation. The media utilized include social media platforms, the official website, brochures, and direct promotional visits to schools. These strategies have proven effective in increasing institutional visibility and expanding information outreach to prospective students. However, the implementation still faces challenges, particularly in terms of limited human resources and promotional budget constraints. This study concludes that structured communication management planning plays a significant role in supporting the success of new student admissions at IWU. Therefore, strengthening strategic planning, enhancing collaboration, and optimizing the use of digital technology are recommended for future development.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital da’wah platforms has created an urgent need for systematic and well-structured customer relationship management. One communication feature that plays a significant role in maintaining user engagement is push notifications, utilized by applications such as Muslim Pro as a primary interaction channel between the platform and its users. However, the effectiveness of push notifications as a customer communication instrument in the context of digital da’wah still requires deeper examination, particularly concerning user perceptions and responses within academic communities. This study aims to examine the customer relationship communication strategies implemented through push notifications in the Muslim Pro application and to analyze how this feature influences user engagement and loyalty among students of Universitas Islam Bunga Bangsa Cirebon (UIBBC). The research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method and in-depth interviews with twelve informants selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal that push notifications in Muslim Pro do not merely function as reminders for prayer times but have evolved into a relational communication tool that fosters users’ spiritual connection with the platform. Three dominant strategies were identified: content personalization based on time and location, empathetic framing of da’wah messages, and consistency in notification scheduling that creates an Islamic digital habitus. These findings imply that an effective customer relationship communication approach can strengthen user loyalty within the ecosystem of digital da’wah platforms. Keywords: Reconstruction, Self-Disclosure, Islamic Counseling, Social Media

Abstract

The presence of social media in the lives of contemporary Muslims has opened a new dimension in the dynamics of religious communication, which has traditionally relied on physical gatherings and traditional institutions. Digital platforms such as Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, YouTube, and Telegram are no longer merely tools for entertainment or general information, but have transformed into arenas where religious solidarity is produced, negotiated, and reinforced on a daily basis. This phenomenon has attracted serious attention from scholars of Islamic communication, as it has the potential to fundamentally reshape how Muslims build a sense of togetherness, compassion, and collective identity as a faith community. This study aims to systematically examine how social media functions as an arena for constructing religious solidarity from the perspective of Islamic communication and broadcasting. The method used is a systematic literature review of scientific sources, including books and reputable journals published within the last five years. The findings reveal three main mechanisms in the construction of religious solidarity on social media: the practice of sharing content based on shared Islamic values, the formation of digital affective communities that transcend geographical boundaries, and collective mobilization based on digital religious symbols. This research contributes to the development of a theoretical framework in Islamic communication and broadcasting that can more comprehensively explain the phenomenon of digital religious solidarity and remain relevant to the context of Muslim societies in the 21st century

Abstract

Digital media has fundamentally transformed the landscape of Islamic communication, enabling Muslim scholars, preachers, and communities to disseminate da’wah messages across geographical and cultural boundaries with unprecedented reach. Within this evolving communicative environment, the use of English as a vehicular language has gained considerable traction, particularly in reaching Muslim minorities in Western countries and non-Arabic-speaking communities worldwide. This study examines the persuasive language strategies employed in English-medium da’wah messages distributed through various digital platforms, including social media channels, online lectures, podcasts, and institutional websites. Drawing upon a systematic library study methodology, the research analyzes theoretical frameworks from rhetorical theory, discourse analysis, and Islamic communication studies to understand how contemporary Muslim communicators construct persuasive appeals. The objectives of the present investigation are threefold: to identify the dominant persuasive language strategies deployed in digital da’wah content in English, to examine how these strategies align with classical Islamic rhetorical traditions such as hikmah, maw’izah, and mujadalah, and to evaluate the effectiveness of these communicative approaches in contemporary digital contexts. The methodological approach adopted in this study involves the systematic collection, review, and critical analysis of published scholarly works, including books, accredited national journals, and internationally reputed academic journals published within the past three to five years. Findings reveal that digital da’wah practitioners employ a sophisticated amalgamation of Aristotelian appeals—ethos, pathos, and logos—alongside distinctively Islamic rhetorical conventions, constructing messages that are simultaneously persuasive, culturally sensitive, and spiritually grounded. The research further identifies narrative framing, emotional resonance, evidence-based argumentation, and interpersonal address as recurrent strategic features in high-engagement da’wah content. These findings carry significant implications for Islamic communication practitioners, educators, and scholars concerned with the effective propagation of Islamic values in the digital age
