Abstract

Background: Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) remains the leading cause of death worldwide. Among the numerous risk factors influencing the severity of coronary angiography outcomes, diabetes mellitus stands out, with its impact measured through the HbA1c parameter. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between HbA1c levels and the severity of CHD in the Cardiac Catheterization Room. Method: The research adopted a quantitative and observational approach with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of CHD patients who underwent diagnostic and interventional coronary angiography. The sampling technique utilized purposive sampling of 59 patients. The severity of CHD was measured using the Sullivan Vessel Score. Statistical data was analyzed using the Spearman test. Result: The results revealed that most respondents were male accounting for 47 (79.7%) individuals, the most HbA1c values were in the pre-diabetes category for 23 (39%) respondents. The most prevalent severity classification was CAD1V for 27 (45.8%) respondents. Conclusion: Bivariate analysis indicated no significant relationship between HbA1c values and CHD severity (p-value 0.415). The correlation coefficient value of 0.108 indicated a promising positive relationship direction.

Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition in which kidney function gradually declines due to kidney damage. CKD occurs when the kidneys are unable to eliminate metabolic waste from the body or perform their regular functions. Patients with CKD generally undergo hemodialysis, and those undergoing hemodialysis often experience anxiety. One of the non-pharmacological interventions for managing anxiety is the Butterfly Hug technique. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of the Butterfly Hug on anxiety levels in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. Method: The research method employed was a quasi-experimental design with a pre- and post-test without a control group. The study population consisted of 66 patients undergoing hemodialysis at UNS Hospital Surakarta. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling, with a total of 40 respondents selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the hemodialysis unit at UNS Hospital Surakarta. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Data collection was carried out using the DASS-42 questionnaire to assess anxiety levels. Subsequently, the Butterfly Hug intervention was administered in accordance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the technique. The Butterfly Hug was implemented twice per week, with each session lasting 10 minutes. Result: The results of the study showed that, in the pre-test, 60.0% of respondents experienced mild anxiety, whereas in the post-test, 80.0% of respondents reported normal anxiety levels. Conclusion: The p-value obtained was 0.000 (<0.05), indicating that the Butterfly Hug intervention had a significant effect on reducing anxiety levels in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at UNS Hospital Surakarta.

Abstract

Background: Sleep disorders are a significant health concern among patients with type 2 diabetes. Understanding their prevalence and underlying factors is key to designing effective interventions. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023 involving 119 patients with type 2 diabetes aged 30–70 years at diabetic wound care and primary health clinics in Pontianak City. Data were collected using a demographic checklist and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Associations between sleep quality and various factors were analysed using chi-square tests and binary logistic regression. Poor sleep quality was defined as a PSQI score of 5 or higher. Results: 119 individuals (53.7 %) demonstrated poor sleep quality and had a moderate level of sleep disturbance (mean PSQI score 6.9±3.16.9±3.1), with sleep latency being the most affected domain (mean score 1.9±1.41.9±1.4). Comorbid chronic diseases (OR 2.80, p=0.001), smoking (OR 2.95, p=0.005), diabetes duration >10 years (OR 2.55, p=0.004), and obesity (BMI ≥ 30.0 kg/m²; OR 1.89, p=0.021) were significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Older age had a protective effect (OR 0.94, p=0.007). Conclusion: Sleep disorders, particularly difficulty initiating sleep, are highly prevalent among type 2 diabetes patients and associated with comorbidities, smoking, prolonged disease duration, and obesity. Interventions targeting these factors are essential to improve sleep quality and diabetes management.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem among children under five that remains a major public health challenge. Disease prevention through basic immunization plays an important role in supporting optimal growth. Methods: This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach to examine the relationship between maternal education level and completeness of basic immunization, as well as its association with stunting among children under five. A total of 83 children were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and verification of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) books, then analyzed using the chi-square test. Results:The findings showed that there was no significant relationship between maternal education level and completeness of basic immunization (p = 0.573). However, a significant relationship was found between completeness of basic immunization and stunting incidence (p = 0.046), where children with incomplete immunization were more likely to experience stunting. Conclusion: Completeness of basic immunization plays an important role in stunting prevention. Therefore, strengthening immunization programs and providing continuous health education to families and communities are essential to reduce stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional disorder in children under five and remains a major public health problem in Indonesia. Its occurrence is influenced by various factors, including family sociodemographic characteristics and child health conditions. Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between maternal sociodemographic factors and child health conditions and the incidence of stunting among children under five. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. A total of 83 children under five were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. Results: Family income was significantly associated with stunting (p = 0.029), with a higher proportion observed among children from families earning below the regional minimum wage. Child age was also significantly associated with stunting (p = 0.012), particularly among those aged 25–48 months. In contrast, maternal age, maternal education, maternal occupation, number of children, and history of infectious diseases were not significantly associated with stunting (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Family income and child age were significantly associated with stunting among children under five.

Abstract

Background: Poor sleep quality is a common health problem among university students, particularly Gen Z nursing students who experience high academic demands and intensive gadget use. Excessive gadget use, especially before bedtime, can disrupt circadian rhythms and reduce sleep quality, leading to negative impacts on physical and mental health as well as academic performance. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between gadget use intensity and sleep quality among Gen Z nursing students at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. Methods: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 135 third-semester nursing students selected using a cluster random sampling technique. Gadget use intensity was measured using the Smartphone Addiction Scale–Short Version (SAS-SV), while sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. Results: The results showed that most respondents had a high level of gadget use intensity (48.1%) and poor sleep quality (86.7%). The Chi-Square test indicated a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a significant relationship between gadget use intensity and sleep quality. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between gadget use intensity and sleep quality among Gen Z nursing students at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. Higher gadget use intensity is associated with poorer sleep quality.
