ABSTRACT Background: Motivation drives and sustains individual performance. In nursing, caring is a core element of professional service. Low levels of caring behavior among nurses may arise from multiple factors, particularly low work motivation. High work motivation is essential for nurses to deliver competent care and ensure patient satisfaction. Conversely, insufficient motivation may hinder clinical decision-making and affect the quality of caring behavior toward patients. Objective: This study aimed to determine the correlation between work motivation and caring behavior among nurses in the Inpatient Department of Landak Regional General Hospital. Methods: This research employed a quantitative correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach to examine the relationship between work motivation and caring behavior. The population comprised 108 nurses working in the inpatient department, with 52 participants selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires assessing motivation and caring behavior. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: Findings indicated that 59.6% of nurses demonstrated good levels of work motivation, while 90.4% exhibited good caring behavior in the inpatient department. Conclusion: There is a statistically significant correlation between work motivation and caring behavior among implementing nurses in the Inpatient Department of Landak Regional General Hospital (p = 0.000 < α = 0.05). These results suggest that higher work motivation is associated with better caring behavior, emphasizing the importance of motivational enhancement programs to improve the quality of nursing care and patient satisfaction.

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease and a major cause of poor public health in many countries. It remains the leading infectious killer worldwide, with approximately 10 million people affected in 2018. The treatment of pulmonary TB generally lasts for six to nine months and consists of two phases—an initial intensive phase and a continuation phase. Interviews with 10 TB patients revealed that some experienced the desire to discontinue treatment due to a lack of self-motivation to recover. Efforts to control the high prevalence of pulmonary TB must focus on improving patient adherence to anti-tuberculosis therapy. Objective: To determine the relationship between motivation and adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication among TB patients attending the DOTS Clinic at Dr. Soedarso General Hospital, Pontianak. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design using a purposive sampling technique. The total sample consisted of 45 respondents. Results: Most respondents were aged 17–25 years (44.4%), female (46.7%), had completed senior high school (44.4%), were unemployed (57.8%), and had a TB history of ≥5 years (91.1%). More than half of the respondents demonstrated good motivation toward anti-tuberculosis medication (53.3%), and the majority were adherent to their treatment (84.4%). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between patient motivation and adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication.

Background: Hypertension is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases among the elderly and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular complications. One non-pharmacological effort to control blood pressure is engaging in physical activity such as hypertension exercise, which is specifically designed to help lower blood pressure and improve heart health in the elderly. Objective: To determine the effect of hypertension exercise on reducing blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension at UPT Puskesmas Gang Sehat, Pontianak City. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design without a control group, using a pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 17 elderly individuals selected using a Insidental sampling technique. The intervention involved performing hypertension exercise four times over two weeks, with each session lasting 20–30 minutes. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: After the intervention, the majority of respondents experienced a reduction in blood pressure. For systolic blood pressure, 13 respondents showed a decrease after performing hypertension exercise, with the Wilcoxon test yielding a significance value of p = 0.003 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between systolic blood pressure before and after the intervention. For diastolic blood pressure, 12 respondents experienced a decrease, with a significance value of p = 0.028 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Hypertension exercise is proven to be effective in lowering blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension.

Background: According to the World Health Organization (2020), 90% of women experience menstrual pain, with 10–16% suffering severe pain. In Indonesia, the prevalence among adolescent girls reaches 64.24% (107,673 individuals). Although menstrual pain is not life-threatening, it can disrupt daily activities, cause fainting, depression, and reduce quality of life. Therefore, efforts to reduce menstrual pain are important. Objective: To determine the difference in the effectiveness of effleurage massage and deep back massage methods in reducing menstrual pain among SMAIT Almumtaz Pontianak students. Methods: This comparative analytical quantitative study used a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 32 respondents were selected using total sampling. Data were analyzed using the Marginal Homogeneity and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The average decrease in menstrual pain frequency scores was 13.13 for the effleurage massage group and 19.88 for the deep back massage group. Both methods effectively reduced menstrual pain frequency. However, statistical analysis showed no significant difference in effectiveness between the two techniques, indicating that both are equally effective in reducing menstrual pain. Conclusion: Both effleurage and deep back massage are effective in lowering the frequency of menstrual pain. Nevertheless, based on the mean decrease, the deep back massage method appears to be slightly more effective than effleurage massage in alleviating menstrual pain among adolescent students.
