Abstract

Background: Post-stroke patients often experience a decline in quality of life due to physical, psychological, social, and economic limitations. Muscle weakness, mobility difficulties, and inability to perform daily activities reduce independence, making patients highly dependent on family support during recovery. Adequate family support can enhance motivation, confidence, and adaptability, while lack of support may lead to depression, helplessness, and poor quality of life. Many post-stroke patients still do not receive optimal family support, resulting in persistently low quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and the quality of life of post-stroke patients in the working area of the Ambarawa Health Center, Pringsewu Regency. Methods: This quantitative study used an analytical cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 33 post-stroke patients selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using family support (30 items) and quality of life (25 items) questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. Results: Among 17 respondents with good family support, 21 (88.2%) had good quality of life, while 12 of 16 respondents (68.8%) with poor family support had low quality of life. The Chi-Square test showed p = 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between family support and quality of life. Conclusion: Family support plays a crucial role in improving post-stroke patients’ quality of life. The stronger the family support, the better the quality of life across physical, psychological, social, and economic aspects.

Abstract

Background: Self-concept refers to an individual’s perception and understanding of themselves, encompassing what they know and feel about their identity. It represents an essential aspect of personality development, particularly during adolescence, when family support plays a crucial role. One important aspect of family support is the affective function, which involves emotional guidance and preparation of family members to build healthy social relationships and psychological stability. When the affective function of the family is not fulfilled, adolescents are more likely to engage in deviant behaviors such as promiscuity. Promiscuity is a form of social deviation that crosses moral boundaries and may lead to negative outcomes, including free sex. Objective: To determine the relationship between self-concept, family affective function, and adolescent promiscuity at SMA Negeri 1 Simpang Dua, Ketapang Regency. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional approach involving 76 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-square test with the SPSS application. Results: The findings showed no significant relationship between self-concept and adolescent promiscuity, with a p-value of 0.195 (>0.05). However, a significant relationship was found between the family’s affective function and adolescent promiscuity, with a p-value of 0.003 (<0.05). Conclusion: The study concludes that while self-concept alone does not significantly influence adolescent promiscuity, the family’s affective function plays a critical role. The weaker the family’s affective function and the more negative the self-concept, the higher the risk of adolescents engaging in promiscuous behavior.

Abstract

Background: Non-hemorrhagic stroke is a neurological disorder caused by obstruction of blood flow to the brain, resulting in neuronal damage and decreased motor function, particularly upper extremity muscle weakness. This weakness limits patients’ daily activities, necessitating appropriate rehabilitative interventions. The combination of Hand Grip Strength and Range of Motion (ROM) exercises is believed to improve muscle strength through neuromuscular stimulation and increased muscle elasticity. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of combined Hand Grip Strength and ROM exercises on upper extremity muscle strength in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta. Methods: A pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach without a control group was used. A total of 44 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. The intervention was administered twice daily for 10–15 minutes over three consecutive days. The Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) scale was used to measure muscle strength. Results: The findings revealed a significant improvement in muscle strength after the intervention, with p < 0.05. These results support that combining Hand Grip Strength and ROM exercises effectively enhances upper extremity muscle strength in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients. Conclusion: There was a significant effect of the combination of ROM and Hand Grip Strength exercises on improving upper extremity muscle strength among non- hemorrhagic stroke patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital (ρ = 0.000 < 0.05). This study is expected to serve as a reference for rehabilitative nursing interventions and contribute to preventing permanent disability in stroke patients.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, which over time causes serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Vitamin D is thought to affect glucose metabolism, reduce ß-cell function, and increase insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between vitamin D levels and the degree of wounds in patients with diabetes mellitus at the Kitamura Clinic, Pontianak. Methods: This research method is a quantitative descriptive method. Results: This study showed that the majority of patients with diabetic foot ulcers at the Kitamura Clinic Pontianak had normal vitamin D levels (86.7%), while 10% had low levels, and 3.3% had high levels. Most of the wounds were at a severe level, namely grade 3 (33.3%) and 4 (30%). Spearman correlation analysis showed a negative relationship between vitamin D levels and wound severity (r = -0.267), but this relationship was not statistically significant (p = 0.153). Conclusion: This study concluded that vitamin D levels were not significantly associated with the severity of diabetic foot ulcers.
