Abstract

Pesantren has a strategic role in building the national spirit in Indonesia, especially in forming a generation with morals and national insight. Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, one of the leading pesantren, implements an education system that integrates Islamic and national values in every aspect of learning. This study aims to analyse how the education system in Gontor shapes the national spirit of santri through curriculum, pesantren culture, and leadership activities. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with pesantren caregivers, teachers, and santri, and document analysis related to the curriculum and values taught in Gontor. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the findings. The results show that Gontor instills nationalism through various methods, such as character-based learning, discipline, and independence education, and extracurricular activities that foster a sense of unity and nationalism. The santri leadership system also plays an important role in shaping social responsibility and love for the country. In addition, the integration of Islamic values and nationalism in the curriculum teaches santri about the importance of maintaining the integrity of the nation within the Islamic frame. Thus, education in Gontor can be a model in building a generation that has a strong religious understanding and a high national spirit. Pesantren can contribute to strengthening national unity through value-based education. These findings provide a practical framework for integrating civic and religious education and contribute theoretically to the discourse on nationalism within Islamic educational contexts.

Abstract

The competitiveness of private schools can be seen from the school's accreditation ranking. Private schools that have low accreditation scores require strategies to increase their competitiveness. The aim of this study is to analyze the strategic position of private schools in Cirebon using SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats). Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, literature and document studies, and distributing questionnaires. Data analysis using IFAS and EFAS, SWOT analysis to analyze internal and external factors, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to obtain a strategic position. The results of the SWOT analysis show that the school being analyzed is in the Progressive Quadrant I (opportunities, strengths). The progressive quadrant in SWOT is the quadrant that shows a favorable situation for an organization. This quadrant is characterized by strengths and opportunities. In this case the school has a competitive advantage that can be utilized to seize existing opportunities. Organizations can leverage their strengths to develop new products or services, expand markets, or increase market share. Further, the strategy's priority is identified through QSPM.

Abstract

The growing concern over student behavior, including bullying, lack of empathy, and dishonesty, underscores the inadequacy of current character education practices in Indonesian elementary schools. This study aims to provide an empirical foundation and conceptual justification for a new instructional model—Action–Feeling–Knowing (AFK)—designed to improve character formation. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected from ten teachers at SDN 1 Labuhan Ratu through observation instruments aligned with the five core PPK values: religiosity, nationalism, independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity. The results reveal an overall character competency score of 43.98%, with integrity and mutual cooperation being the weakest domains. Qualitative narratives highlight disconnection between moral teaching and real-life application, limited emotional engagement, and inconsistencies between school and home environments. In response, this study proposes the AFK strategy, which begins with student action, followed by emotional reflection and cognitive understanding. Supported by behaviorist, constructivist, and humanist theories, this reversed sequence better aligns with the developmental stage of primary students. A bibliometric analysis using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer confirms the limited scholarly attention to this specific model, reinforcing its originality. The study concludes that AFK holds promise as an actionable, integrated, and developmentally sensitive approach to character education, meriting further research and classroom-based implementation.

Abstract

This study evaluates the efficiency of ClassPoint learning media in improving students' spatial literacy in geometry education. Spatial literacy, which includes imagery, reasoning, and communication skills, is crucial for understanding and solving complex geometric problems. The research employed a quasi-experimental methodology, dividing 52 eleventh-grade students into two groups: one utilizing ClassPoint for the experiment and the other employing conventional methods as the control group. We collected data through pretests and posttests with instruments devised particularly to assess three characteristics of spatial literacy. The data analysis included t-tests and N-Gain to evaluate the intervention's effectiveness. The results demonstrated that students in the experimental group showed a significant improvement in spatial literacy compared to the control group. The mean score of the experimental group increased from 66.38 to 85.23 following the intervention, with N-Gain scores for vision at 0.84 (high category), reasoning at 0.81 (high category), and communication at 0.70 (medium category). The interactive features of ClassPoint, such as quizzes, polls, and live annotations, improved the learning experience and aided students' understanding of concepts. This study contributes to educational literature by illustrating the effectiveness of the ClassPoint learning medium in improving spatial literacy in geometry education. This study's practical consequences recommend employing learning tools such as ClassPoint in mathematics lessons to foster a more innovative, engaging, and pertinent educational atmosphere. We expect the results of this study to guide educators and policymakers in developing learning strategies that enhance students' spatial skills development.

Abstract

This study explores how teachers across different educational levels in Indonesia perceive the ideal characteristics of a school principal. Using an exploratory descriptive design, data were gathered from 1,594 teachers in Lampung Province through an online semi-structured survey. The open-ended responses were thematically analyzed to identify the dominant traits teachers associate with effective leadership. Six recurring themes emerged: assertiveness, wisdom, nurturing, discipline, responsibility, and open-mindedness. However, the emphasis on each trait varied by school level. Elementary teachers prioritized emotional and nurturing leadership; junior high teachers emphasized firmness and structure; while senior high teachers favored democratic and wise leadership. Findings suggest that leadership expectations are shaped by contextual factors such as school level, teacher maturity, and institutional culture. These results align with Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory and Hallinger’s instructional leadership model, highlighting the importance of adaptive, relationship-based leadership. The study calls for leadership development programs that are differentiated and context-sensitive. By integrating teacher perspectives, educational leaders can better align their practices with school-specific needs, enhancing both teacher engagement and school climate.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of French cultural values in the Tendances A1 textbook, which is widely used in Indonesia for teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE). Adopting a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach, the research investigates how cultural elements are conveyed both textually and visually through Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework of description, interpretation, and explanation. Using Widodo’s (2018) model of cultural dimensions respect for cultural differences, indigenous cultures, harmony with life and nature, and appreciation for local creativity the study categorizes and analyzes content drawn from dialogues, images, and thematic contexts. Descriptive statistics and qualitative coding show that seven of nine cultural aspects from the unité culture framework are present, including daily life, interpersonal relationships, values and beliefs, living conditions, manners, and rituals. These aspects emerge through scenes of social greetings like La Bise, family dynamics, leisure habits, gift-giving, and home preferences, reflecting both explicit and implicit ideologies. The findings suggest that Tendances A1 successfully integrates linguistic and cultural competence, enabling learners to gain not only language skills but also awareness of French social norms and values; however, the study also notes the need for greater cultural diversity and contextualization to avoid stereotypes. Ultimately, the research underscores the importance of embedding authentic, varied cultural content in language education to promote meaningful, globally conscious communication.
