Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to seek out the Sense of Coherence (SOC) as a predictor of well-being, happiness, life satisfaction, and tension. Standard self-report questionnaires were used to collect data. Sample of the present study comprised (N = 200). Psychometric properties of variables, reliability analysis, Pearson correlation, and linear regression analysis were applied to analyze the data. The hypotheses are fully accepted. SOC positively predicts well-being, happiness, and life satisfaction, while a SOC negatively predicts stress. A purposive sampling technique was used, thus the study was quantitative. The current investigation is an important expansion in writing on the hypothesis of the feeling of intelligibility. The present study contributes to the theory by suggesting the path to well-being, stress, happiness, and life satisfaction. The present study identified that the SOC positively predicts well-being, happiness, and life satisfaction. The research findings are helpful for the well-being, happiness, and life satisfaction of life for the betterment of a SOC. Prior research was conducted on the SOC and mental health outcome in subcultures of Pakistan', but this study used a sample of different peoples to cope with their difficulties. Past researches were based on cross-cultural, and now present research findings also confirmed the theories in a collectivistic culture. This study predisposes Pakistani research to work on the salutogenic model and explore the new perspective of SOC in Asian culture.

Abstract

Conflicts are a common phenomenon in today’s disorderly world. Ethnic conflicts usually arise in multi-ethnic, pluralistic, or democratic societies. While employing institutional theory, this qualitative study explores the role of institutions in escalating and de-escalating ethnic conflicts through analysis of Gorkhaland and Balochistan ethnic conflicts in India and Pakistan, respectively. Both conflict-prone regions hold significant geo-strategic importance for their countries and share common grievances ranging from political marginalization, identity crisis, structural inequalities, denial of democracy, and enduring state antagonism. Since federalism is considered a golden road towards sustainable ethnic peace, a deep understanding of both conflicts’ nature, synthesis, underpinning factors, and the contemporary situation is pivotal for advancing informed political discourse. The study follows a desk research method for data collection and a descriptive approach for synthesizing the facts gathered from secondary sources, including the grey literature. The study informs that the suppression of dissenting voices doesn’t resolve ethnic conflicts instead adds insult to injuries. The study concludes that as long as the non-democratic policies of the governments are in place, this ethno-regional agenda would continue to be a significant issue in the politics of both federal states – India and Pakistan. The study implies that both countries should volte-face their state policy towards their respective conflict-prone regions to sustain a socially cohesive, economically viable, and politically stable society. The study also presents several contributions coupled with limitations and future research directions.

Abstract

The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to examine a link between social isolation and elderly well-being among elderly. It also probes into the nature and extent of respondents' social isolation as well as their well-being. The sample size was 150, and a multi-stage sampling procedure was employed. Data was collected using an interview schedule, a social isolation scale, and a wellbeing scale. The study's major premise was that there would be a strong link between social isolation and elderly well-being. The findings regarding the prevalenceof social isolation revealed that half of the respondents were at risk of social isolation. Sixty-six percent of the elderly reported a high degree of Wellbeing, 29 percent estimated moderate level of Wellbeing, and the remaining had a low level of Wellbeing. According to the Pearson correlation, social isolation and elderly well-being have a negative significant relationship. It means that being more likely to be socially isolated will lead to a decrease in wellbeing and vice versa. The T test results show that there was no significant difference in social isolation between men and women. On the other hand, there was a considerable difference existed in social isolation between nuclear and joint family structures. Participants in nuclear family structureexperienced higher social isolation than those in joint family structures. Various intervention measures, including as public awareness campaign, the creation of senior citizen pools, and the building of community centres, should be used to prevent social isolation and improve the social adjustment of the elderly in later life.

Abstract

The advancement of internet technology revolutionized the online shopping environment and offered more options to customers in their purchase process, providing them with better products and services and providing opportunities for business firms to open an additional channel to grow. Based on previous inconsistent results regarding the construct of the different channels, the current study proposes Channel Integration as a moderator. Some authors also attribute these insignificant results to a lack of channel integration. While the number of channels increases, the issue of synergies and coordination among channels also increases. The current study investigates the connection between offline service quality and Online Service Quality (ONSQ). Additionally, the moderation of channel integration between offline service quality and ONSQ justifies inconsistent results in multichannel literature. Data was collected from 358 customers of various online fashion industry firms in Pakistan. The study results indicate the significant association between offline service quality and ONSQ. The construct of channel integration moderates the relationship between offline service quality and ONSQ. Hence, the higher the perceived integration between the multiple channels of the firm, the better is the transfer of customer perceptions from one channel to another. Therefore, multichannel firms should acknowledge the role of channel integration in shaping behavioral intentions in multiple channel interaction. Several other variables can be tested to check their moderating effect on customer's perception transfer.

Abstract

Due to the expectation of online sales growth around the world, the global online firms are continuously working to increase their existing customer base by attracting new customers to their online channel in driving sales growth. However, the adoption rate of ecommerce in the fashion industry is slow relative to other sectors and the primary reason for this slower adoption is due to the inability of translating the offline channel experience to the online channel. A structured questionnaire was used for the current study. The current study aims to understand the connection between offline trust and online trust. According to trust transfer theory, the trust can be transferred from one object to another object based on connection between these two objects. As both offline and online channel belongs to single company, the trust can be transferred from one channel to another channel. The results of the study confirmed the significant association between offline trust and online trust. Additionally, the offline image of the firm confirms the moderation between offline trust and online trust. Limitation of the study is only one channel related variable but in future researcher use many variables such as, channel enjoyment, channel related perceived risk, channel perceived value, and channel loyalty.

Abstract

Federalism is a setup most suited to countries with diversity. A bicameral legislature has become the necessity of multicultural federations since it best satisfies the federating units’ needs by giving them equal representation to participate in the legislation and accountability processes. It also guarantees impartiality through providing a second deliberation on matters considered at the lower house overshadowed by the federating units with the majority population. In Pakistan, all constitutions had unicameral legislatures until the debacle of East Pakistan in 1971. After the unfortunate incident, it was felt that an upper house should check out the domination of the largest province in the central legislature with equal representation. So, the 1973 Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan came out with an upper house named Senate. Provincial autonomy was the long demanded right of provinces brought about by the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. The Amendment gave a new and dynamic role to the Senate. The present study intends to analyze the Senate’s role in the federation of Pakistan in the backdrop of the 18th Amendment. By utilizing primary and secondary data sources, this study takes an analytical approach to address the research question. For this purpose, the authors have conducted semi-structured interviews with the Senators (n=6) belonging to all four provinces of Pakistan to bring empirical evidence concerning the role of the Senate as the House of the Federation. The study underscores that the indirect election of the senators, insignificant legislative powers of the Senate, parliamentary nature of the political system, and the resultant bulldozing of legislative proposals by the presidential ordinances and joint sessions of the parliament severely curtail the powers of the Senate. The study concludes that the members of the Senate should be directly elected so that their dependency on the respective provincial assemblies is minimized. The legislative powers of the Senate should be enhanced along with veto power. In case of a joint session of the parliament, one vote of the Senate should be counted as equal to three votes of the NA. With a humble contribution to theoretical and practical fields, the study describes its limitations and presents directions for future research.

Abstract

This study examines the frequency of slips of the tongue and typing in Pakistani politicians’ speeches and guidebooks. Slips of the tongue occur in formal and informal situations. In formal situations, slips of the tongue can cause serious problems such as dismissal from office or job, losing voters’ favors and even plane crashes at airports. In informal situations, slips of the tongue can cause relationship problems. Therefore, slips of the tongue have been engaging the attention of psychologists and linguists. The recorded literature, according to western scholars, shows that the earliest systematic studies were undertaken on the slips of the tongue in the 19th century. Corpora, experimental and exploratory studies have been done on slips of the tongue. In the current study, with an exploratory approach, seven Pakistani politicians’ speeches were downloaded from the social media website and analyzed for slips of the tongue. Besides, two ‘key books’ (notes books for MCQs) were analyzed for slips of typing. The data was analyzed by using insights from theoretical work of Fromkin (1973) and Mackay (1993). The findings show that “substitution” occurred more frequently than other types of slip of the tongue. Furthermore, the results also reveal that “transposition” as type of slip of typing occurred more frequently than other types. The author suggest that the next scholar perform investigation on slip tongue, which can be discovered in a variety of situations and situations, such as in a video or in everyday speech. It also advises that this issue be developed and explored further in terms of changing objects or theories.

Abstract

The main aim of the following quantitative study is to analyze the theoretical framework based on explanatory style by analyzing the association between women's beliefs related to the glass ceiling and turnover intentions and to determine whether occupational self-efficacy (OSE) moderated the connection of women beliefs regarding glass ceiling and their turnover intentions. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed, and online surveys were conducted from females that work in the private and public service sectors. The sampling technique that is used to conduct a survey from a female population is the purposive sampling technique. Women's beliefs related to the glass ceiling were analyzed using the career pathways survey (CPS), and turnover intentions were measured through the turnover intention scale. Analysis has been conducted by establishing the reliability and validity of the questionnaire scale and descriptive statistics, correlation technique, and multiple regression analysis to test the hypothesis. The findings and results indicated that there is a significant relationship among the main constructs. The findings also proved that occupational self-efficacy had a significant moderating effect on the optimistic and pessimistic (acceptance, resignation) beliefs and turnover intentions. These findings will be helpful for women to comprehend how their beliefs related to the glass ceiling works and how their beliefs influence the level of self-efficacy and intention to quit. The organization may further incorporate this study in order to devise prevention strategies to retain female employees in the workplace. It is one of the first studies to be conducted related to the glass ceiling beliefs in the Pakistani context.
