Abstract

Astigmatism is a refractive error caused by non-uniformity in the shape of the cornea or lens of the eye, resulting in distortion of vision at various distances. It can result from genetic factors, developmental issues, or injury. While astigmatism can occur at any age, it often emerges in early childhood and may worsen with age, particularly in adulthood. It is most commonly diagnosed in children and young adults.the purpose of this literature review is to compare the effectiveness and safety of the three main approaches to astigmatism treatment: SMILE, Keratoplasty, and other techniques such as AK and TIOL. Methods. A clinical study involving patients with mild to moderate astigmatism. Data on visual measurements, astigmatism measurements, and side effects were collected regularly. The results showed that SMILE has small incisions and lower side effects, but there is still a risk of intraoperative complications. Keratoplasty (especially DALK) offers good visual recovery with few postoperative side effects. TIOL are effective in correcting moderate to high astigmatism with permanent correction, but have a risk of complications. AK is a good option for patients who want to correct astigmatism without more invasive laser surgery. Conclusion. Each method has unique advantages and disadvantages. Choosing the right method can ensure optimal results and clearer vision after surgery.

Abstract

Contact dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition caused by direct exposure to irritant chemicals or allergens. It is classified into two main types: irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). ICD results from direct skin damage caused by chemicals without involving an immune response, while ACD is triggered by an allergic reaction involving T-cell activation and cytokines. Factors such as duration, intensity, and frequency of exposure, as well as individual skin conditions, influence the severity of dermatitis. Among healthcare workers, the prevalence of contact dermatitis is high due to frequent exposure to soaps, hand sanitizers, latex gloves, and masks containing irritants and allergens. Research indicates that up to 74.5% of healthcare workers report experiencing occupational skin reactions. Preventing contact dermatitis among healthcare workers requires careful risk management and the use of appropriate protective equipment.

Abstract

Abstract Background. Gonorrhea is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs), especially in developing countries like Indonesia. Adolescents are vulnerable to this disease, mainly due to risk factors involving biological, social, and behavioral aspects. This study aims to explore the risk factors of gonorrhea in adolescents and the prevention efforts that have been and can be done. Methods. Through a literature review of 10 articles in the last five years, it was found that young age, number of sexual partners, use of psychotropic drugs, and low socioeconomic and educational levels are the main causes of high gonorrhea cases. Discussion. In addition, globalization and changing social norms also contribute to the increase in risky behavior among adolescents. Gonorrhea prevention efforts can be done through comprehensive sex education, consistent condom use, and empowerment of adolescents through intervention programs such as ABC (Abstinence, Be Faithful, Use a Condom). Conclusion. By increasing access to reproductive health services and reducing stigma towards STIs, it is hoped that the prevalence of gonorrhea in adolescents can be reduced.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative condition characterized by cartilage destruction, subchondral bone changes, and inflammation, which can impair the quality of life of sufferers. This review aims to analyze the role of inflammation in the development of OA. The method used included a literature search of international and national databases for articles published in the last five years. The results showed that risk factors, such as age, obesity and trauma, can trigger the inflammatory process by involving pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNF-α. Interventions for OA include pharmacological therapies, such as NSAIDs and corticosteroids, as well as non-pharmacological approaches through lifestyle modification. This review concludes that OA management requires an integrated approach to address inflammation and symptoms. A deeper understanding of the mechanisms of inflammation may support the development of more effective and efficient treatment strategies. Keywords: Osteoarthritis, inflammation pro-inflammatory cytokines, pharmacologic therapy, lifestyle modification.
