Abstract

This study aims to identify code mixing and code switching in Aristarkhov’s Bule KW channel on Bali’s tourism after the Covid-19 pandemic. It also explores the reasons of those code switch and mix. It employs a descriptive qualitative method. Watching and writing are the steps taken in collecting the data, while classifying and interpreting are used in data analysis. The result shows that intra sentential code mix are the most frequently appear. It is followed by intra lexical and changes of pronunciation. Meanwhile the switch is dominated by metaphorical code switch. The reasons involve among other topic changes, quoting others, being emphatic, and expressing group identity.

Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze: (1) The scenes in The End of the F***ing World Series (2017) that depict teenagers’ frustration and anger. The study uses a qualitative method to analyze the film entitled “The End of the F***ing World” as the objective research. The researcher analyzes the data by using semiotics and takes some steps of watching, reading the subtitle, identifying, classifying, and selecting data. Afterward, the step is continued by analyzing data through the process of displaying, explaining, and interpreting the data The result shows that the scenes portrayed teenagers’ frustration and anger caused by their personal, family, and social problems.

Abstract

The reading competence of Indonesian students is unsatisfactory caused by the inappropriate teaching technique. Reading is a complex cognitive activity so that it needs an appropriate technique in teaching. The objective of this study is to measure the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique to improve students’ reading comprehension. The subject of the study were 35 numbers of 11th graders of vocational school students. The findings showed that the average of the pre-test and post-test scores were 67.4 and 88.03 .The improvement calculation was found 0.632 which was categorized as medium. The calculation of applying the t-test was on rejection area of ​​Ho, showed that the post-test was better than the pre-test. According to the data analysis, the researcher concluded that teaching reading by using CIRC technique is applicable since it helps the students to improve their reading comprehension.

Abstract

Several obstacles that make students have difficulties in learning English, especially vocabulary mastery, encourage researcher to find appropriate and effective solutions to overcome these obstacles. The subject of this study are students of class MAN 2 Wonosobo. The main purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the F-S-R (Find-Switch-Read) Technique in improving English vocabulary mastery in 10th grade students of MAN 2 Wonosobo. In addition, researcher evaluate whether the teaching methods of English in schools that have been practiced so far have been effective and efficient so that they can meet the stated teaching goals or objectives. This research is a quantitative research using experimental methods. Research data obtained from several techniques consisting of tests, experiments, and questionnaires. In this study, experiments were carried out in two classes. The two classes are divided into experimental class and control class. Researcher used pre-test as a means to test students' abilities before the experiment was conducted, and post-test to test students' abilities after the experiment was conducted. Based on the statistical calculation with the significance level 5% on Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) 26, The result is indicated that the use of F-S-R (Find-Switch-Read) Teachnique is effective in improving student’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This article focuses on the narrative contents of Indonesian short storyteller in TikTok. TikTok storytelling is one of the forms of literature in cyber space. The aim of the research is to explain about storytelling which contain of violent content by Indonesian TikTok up loaders. The research design applied is qualitative research. The result of the research shows that the TikTok’s short storytelling videos are mostly violent narrative contents which take some themes dealing with the story genre of Indonesian horror, domestic violence, bullying toward children, religious punishment, bad relationship between husband and wife, bad relationship between children and parents, the punishment toward evil person, bad children and bad student. Storytelling in TikTok can affect the viewer’s habit of speaking as they imitate the language used by the content creators in their daily conversation. The viewers include both teenager and underage. Through this research, the next researcher can gain insight literature form development in cyber space and it can be the reference of the study on language variation used by the millennial generation of 5.0 era.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are to analyze the representation of women empowerment and find the impact of women empowerment in the movie Raya and The Last Dragon (2021). In this research, the researcher analyzes the women empowerment and the impact of women empowerment. Then the researcher explains the women empowerment on the main character represented in Raya and The Last Dragon (2021). The object and data of this thesis is the movie entitled Raya and The Last Dragon(2021). The researcher uses women empowerment by Rowland and Kate Young as the grounded theory. Furthermore the researcher uses semiotic analysis method by Roland Barthes and the researcher uses feminism approach to analyze the data. This research is using descriptive qualitative method. As the result, the researcher found that the impact of women empowerment on the main character is having control, or gaining further control, having a voice to be listened, being able to define and create from a women’s perspective being able to influence social choices and decisions affecting the whole society (not just areas of society accepted as women’s place), being recognized and respected as equal citizens and human beings with a contribution to make. By that finding, it is proven that the impact of women empowerment have significant effect on the main character in this movie.

Abstract

This research is conducted to explain Cohesion and Coherence Analysis in the book entitled Academic Writing : A Handbook for International Students (Second Edition) by Stephen Bailey. The researcher used qualitative method to examine the problem. The collecting data of the research method includes reading and understanding, finding out, collecting, identifying, and classifying and arranging. The analyzing data of the research method by used displaying, explaining, interpreting, and concluding. The theories and approaches used by researchers are discourse analysis, cohesion and coherence analysis. The results of the study are cohesion type, and coherence type. Grammatical cohesion includes reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction. Lexical cohesion includes the type of reiteration, and collocation. Coherence type includes resemblence relations, cause-effect relations, and contiguity relations.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see the condition of British society in the early 20th Century reflected in D.H. Lawrence’s The Virgin and the Gypsy. The social condition here is related to the reflection of different class-level social life. There are two aims of this study, the first aim is to identify the social condition of England in the early twentieth century depicted in the novel, and the second is to find the social criticism implied through some characterization of the characters in the novel. This research uses a sociological approach with mixed-method analysis. The method used is library research since the thesis deals with a novel. The main data was collected from The Virgin and The Gipsy novel; while the supporting data were collected from internet pages; and other books related to the subject matter. The research finding is that the England social condition was marked by four characteristics, namely: the existence of class distinction, the rise of the middle class, the loss of the nobility's power, and the influence of position on social status. In addition, through the representation of the characters in the novel, the author tries to criticize the way the different classes of people in building a relationship with each other and to criticize the social treatment and judgment toward the lower-class people. During the early twentieth century, the gap between the rich and the poor was obvious and it influences the way people built a relationship in society.

Abstract

This article presents the study result of : (1)bipolar disorder indications reflected in the main character of Pat Solitano in “Silver Linings Playbook”, (2) the main character’s mental state as the sufferer of bipolar disorder presented in “Silver Linings Playbook”. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the film entitled “Silver Linings Playbook” directed by David Owen Russel as the objective research. The collecting data of the research method includes watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The analyzing data of the research method by using displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The researcher analyzes the data by using Abnormal Psychology and Sigmund Freud Psychoanalysis. The result of the study : (1) the type of bipolar disorder reflected in the main character in David O. Russell’s in “Silver Linings Playbook” such as mood swing, irritability and agitation, impulsive behavior, grandiosity and racing thought, and sleep disturbance; (2) the psychological condition of Pat as bipolar disorder sufferer in form manic episodes are pat became a grumpy character, easily agitated, impulsive, narcissistic, and an insomniac.
