Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze : (1) The bushido values of samurai presented in the movie “Ruroini Kenshin : The Beginning (2021) and The Last Samurai (2003)”,(2) The transitions of bushido values reflected in the movie “Ruroini Kenshin : The Beginning (2021) and The Last Samurai (2003)”. The study uses descriptive qualitative method to analyzed the film entitled “Ruroini Kenshin : The Beginning (2021) and The Last Samurai (2003)” as the objective research. The collecting data of the research method includes watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The analyzing data of the research method by used displaying, explaining, and interpreting. The result of the study : (1) The bushido values of samurai presented in the film “Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning" (2021) include courage, loyalty, politeness, and honor. While the bushido values presented in the film “The Last Samurai (2003) include honor, loyalty, courage, discipline, honesty, and politeness. (2)The transitions of Bushido values reflected in the films “Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning" (2021) and "The Last Samurai" (2003) were found in the differences between armor, military weapons, battle mentality, differences in government policies, and the war tactics.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the types of intertextuality shown in Beauty and the Beast (1991) to Belle (2021) by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise to Belle (2021) by Mamoru Hosoda, and the representation of Kristeva's intertextuality theory utilizing genotext and phenotext. The study uses the descriptive qualitative method to analyze the films Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise and Belle (2021) by Mamoru Hosoda as the objective of the research. The procedure of collecting the data is watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The procedure of analyzing the data uses Spradley's content analysis approach, with four deep stages: Domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential table, and cultural theme. The researcher analyzed the data by using Kristeva’s intertextuality and Fitzsimmons’s types of intertextuality. The result of the study: the types of intertextuality found in Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise and Belle (2021) by Mamoru Hosoda are optional intertextuality, obligatory intertextuality, and accidental intertextuality. The most common type of intertextuality is optional intertextuality. Phenotext and genotext representations in both films are found in several characters in both films. Phenotext in utterances and scenes. Meanwhile, speech intonation and visual expressions that represent several characters as a mode of psychological response are elements of the genotext.

Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing speech acts on Joseph story using speech acts theory proposed by John R. Searle. Speech Acts is part of pragmatics and discourse analysis related to the context of speech that refers to assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative speech acts. Joseph story is part of sura Yusuf which has 111 verses, which is the best story in the Qur'an. Therefore, it contains many speech acts. Based on this, research on speech acts in Joseph story needs to be done. There are two problems with this study: what types of speech acts are found on Joseph story? And what is the mostly used type of speech acts on Joseph story?This study aims to describe speech acts using Searle's theory. Data in the form of speech on Joseph story in the form of written text, which is then analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods.The results showed the types of speech acts found on Joseph story. They are assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. Assertive as many as 31 data, directive as many as 29 data, commissive as many as 11 data, expressive as many as 9 data, and declarative as much as 1. Assertive is the mostly used type of speech acts on Joseph story.

Abstract

Gender bias is preference or unfair treatment of someone based on their gender. Even though our society has made great progress in terms of gender equality, there are still many cases of gender bias that occur. This journal will explore some examples of gender bias that still exist in our daily lives. There are two problems discussed in this research, those are; how is gender bias reflected in the short animation movies: Shattered, Witches, and Purl and how is women’s struggle as the result of gender bias reflected in the short animation movies: Shattered, Witches, and Purl. The research uses descriptive qualitative method to analysed the short animation movies: Shattered, Witches, and Purl as the objective research. The collecting data of the research method includes watching and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The analysing data of the research method by used displaying, explaining, and interpreting. In this research, the researchers found the element of gender bias. It is reflected through the movies that women are disproportionately impacted negatively by the practice of gender bias. Stereotypes that have existed for a long time contribute to gender bias. Women are referred to as feminists, while men are referred to as masculine. Such generalizations in some cases cause ladies to need to wear something attractive to be delightful. Female robots in Shattered are shown to have hips and chests that are large. It is a common misconception that beautiful women are. Despite the fact that these stereotypes can be harmful to women because they are vulnerable to both physical and non-physical sexual violence.

Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze linguistic error in the translation of the children story books by Yudhistira Ikranegara in terms of syntax and semantics. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The collecting data of the research method includes reading, comparing, and providing marks. The result of this study: There are four classifications of syntax construction errors from the translation, namely: Syntax errors due to wastage of words or sentences; Syntax errors as a result improper use of punctuation marks; Syntax errors due to omission of affixation; Syntax errors due omission of words or phrases. Based on four classifications of syntax construction errors above that also cause the occurrence of three semantic errors, namely; total semantic error; partial semantic error; shift semantic errors.

Abstract

The patriarchal culture tradition has existed for a long time. This social system encourages various types of stereotypes, especially for women. Men's dominance over women makes women's existence stereotyped with the issue of social class and gender segregation which causes dystopian life. This study is to show how novels can be used as social critiques of woman discrimination. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood is one of the literary works that addresses the topic of gender stereotyping across how the stories happened. This research uses it to get the data on stereotype aspect especially for the woman stereotype that appears in the novel. The objective of this study is to find out the types of woman stereotypes realized in Margaret Atwood’s Novel “The Handmaid’s Tale”. Therefore, the method used is descriptive qualitative. The study’s results show that the women in the novel especially the lower status women are stereotyped as sexual partner, reproducer, erotic object, motherhood and housewife, weak creatures, lacked in political and education, and having emotional expressiveness. This study's impact is encouraging women to engage in critical thinking and not make themselves objects to men.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how inner conflict occurs and what types of inner conflict appear in the main characters in The Comments (2021). There are two problem formulations that the researchers use in this study, first, How does Papang's inner conflict reflected in The Comments (2021) by Kanittha Kwanyu? Second, What kind of inner conflict does Papang go through in The Comments (2021) by Kanittha Kwanyu? Researchers used qualitative methods to examine the problem. The theory and approach that researchers use are Freud's Psychoanalysis and Theory of Inner Conflict. This research also includes data collection procedures and data analysis procedures. The results of this research are, first, the causes of inner conflict in the main character, and what types of inner conflict arise from the first episode to the fifth episode.

Abstract

Dystopian is a dark side reflection of human society. This study aims to investigate the dystopian fear in series “The Silent Sea” (2021) written by Park Eun Kyo. The data were collected from the subtitles and focus on the dystopian fears and the effects on characters that appeared in the series. The present study employs M. Keith Booker’s theory (1994) as its analytical tools. The analysis shows that dystopian issues is always highly related to the issues in real world, even though the setting of time and place for dystopian world is far distant from nowdays society, but the real reference of dystopian issues are concreete and nera-at-hand. The analysis also reveals that in the series citizens lived below moderation and they also contributed to the existence of rebellion. However, because of how strong government impact in dystopian world is, all kind of attempts against the government is impossible to be achieved. This study is expected to provide an alternative analysis and reference to literary works belong to dystopian genre.

Abstract

This study is aimed analyzing (1) the form of Bullying shown by bullies in Joe Bell movie (2) the impact of Bullying to the main Character in Joe Bell movie.The study uses descriptive qualitative method to analysis the film entitled Joe Bell directed Reinaldi Marcus Green as objective research. The collecting data, and selecting, the analyzing data of the research method by used displaying, explaining, The result of study : (1) the form of Bullying shown by bullies in Jadin character (2) the impact of bullying to the main character of Joe Bell as victims of the effects of bullying on their children, such as mental health disorders, and severe depression to the point where the effects of bullying were fatal and caused Jadin and Joe Bell to commit suicide.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze Amy Dunne mental condition as a as a manipulative person in David Fincher’s Gone Girl.This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the film entitled "Gone Girl" directed by David Fincher’s as a research objective. Data collection methods include observing and reading, identifying, classifying, and selecting. The method of analyzing data is by displaying, explaining and interpreting. Data were analyzed using theory from Sigmund Freud. The mental condition of the main character as a manipulative person Amy Dunne in “David Fincher’s Gone Girl (2014) when mental condition of Amy knowing her husband’s affair, when she trapped her ex-boyfriend, Amy in facing her parents, when facing revenge to her husband, and mental condition of amy when readiness to commiting suicide. Then Amy Dunne becomes a manipulative person.
