Abstract

The main issue discussed in this research is the impact of the catechist course on the catechists' ministry in carrying out the mission of proclaiming the faith at Saint Joseph Parish, Bandung. The background of this research is based on the important role of catechists in the life of the Catholic Church as competent proclaimers of the faith, and the need for ongoing formation to support the quality of their service. This study uses a qualitative approach, with data collected through document studies, structured interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The purpose of this research is to identify the extent to which the catechist course supports the ministry of catechists and to gain an understanding of the supporting and hindering factors in the implementation of the course at Saint Joseph Parish. The findings show that the catechist course has a positive and significant impact on enhancing spiritual maturity and understanding of the faith, especially regarding the sacraments of initiation. In addition, the course strengthens the catechists' sense of pastoral responsibility and develops catechetical skills that are relevant to the current context of the faithful. Supporting factors for the course’s effectiveness include contextualized materials, participatory learning methods, and strong community support. However, challenges remain, such as time constraints and low participation among some course participants. This research offers a meaningful contribution to the development of more effective catechist formation programs focused on sustainable empowerment and may serve as a reference for other parishes in building more contextual and impactful catechetical ministries.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the leadership formation process of Catholic Youth (OMK) as Word Worship officers and to identify the factors influencing their low level of participation in ministry at St. Francis of Assisi Tawang Station. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with OMK members and their instructors as the primary subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the participation of Catholic Youth in church activities is generally positive, as most members are willing to serve when assigned as Word Worship officers. Their involvement includes roles such as leading the Word Worship, participating in liturgical celebrations, and contributing creatively to church life. However, their creativity and initiative remain limited, as many still rely on being appointed rather than volunteering for service. The main obstacles in the leadership formation process are the lack of professional mentors, such as catechists to accompany the youth, and internal challenges among OMK members, including low self-confidence and limited organizational skills. The study suggests that further research and pastoral attention are needed to strengthen the leadership formation and active participation of Catholic Youth in church ministries.

Abstract

The main focus of this paper is to examine the issue of religious freedom in Indonesia, which has recently shown a decline in tolerance between majority and minority religions. Religion essentially teaches faith and morality to its adherents, not a doctrine that creates hostility as is currently the case in Indonesia. The failure of the government and society to fight for religious freedom has resulted in disharmony in communal life, reflected in various incidents of discrimination, prohibitions on worship, and acts of intolerance that harm certain groups. This situation indicates a serious challenge in safeguarding human rights, particularly the right to embrace religion and practice worship according to one's beliefs. In response to this issue, the author seeks to examine three main questions: what is religious freedom? What is freedom according to Zhuangzi? And how is Zhuangzi's thinking on religious freedom implemented in Indonesia? Zhuangzi's thinking, which emphasizes inner freedom, acceptance of diversity, and rejection of coercion, serves as an important foundation for assessing the current situation of religious freedom in Indonesia. This research uses a literature study approach, utilizing sources in the form of relevant books, documents, and journals. It is hoped that this study can provide theoretical and practical contributions in building a peaceful, inclusive religious life, and upholding justice and freedom for every citizen.

Abstract

A Catholic religious teacher has carried out his/her duties in public schools not only as an educator, but also as a faith companion of the students. However, the Catholic students are still experiencing particular obstacles related to the Catholic faith formation in public school. This is because of the Catholic students in public schools perceived as a minority group, and therefore getting lesser attention, especially in terms of both Catholic religious learning and faith building activities in schools. The problem studied in the research is how a Catholic religious teacher can carry out his/her role as a faith companion of the students to effectively build up the faith of Catholic students as a minority group in public schools. This study applies a qualitative research method, and research data was collected using a depth interview technique. The research informants were Catholic religious teachers who have taught at public schools for years. The results of the study indicated that Catholic religious teachers have fully understood their role as faith companions of the Catholic students in public schools. The role of Catholic religious teachers in public schools is to accompany the faith of Catholic students through faith-building activity aimed to make the faith of the students being grown and matured.

Abstract

The formulation of the problem of this study is what is the content of the Apostolic Letter Patris Corde?, and how relevant are the virtues of Saint Joseph according to the Apostolic Letter Patris Corde for Catholic families today?. The researcher uses a qualitative literature study method, carried out by tracing written sources in the Holy Bible, Church documents, books, theses, and journals as well as articles on the internet that are relevant to the research topic. This study concludes: The virtues of Saint Joseph according to the Apostolic Letter Patris Corde are 1) Joseph, the beloved father; 2) Joseph, the gentle and loving father; 3) Joseph, the obedient father; 4) Joseph, the accepting father; 5) Joseph, the creatively courageous father; 6) Joseph, the working father; 7) Joseph, the shadow father. The results of the study show that the virtues of Saint Joseph according to the Apostolic Letter Patris Corde are very relevant to the life of Catholic families today by always being faithful to one's partner, being open to one's offspring, providing an example to children, accepting one another unconditionally, having creative courage to face challenges and difficulties, always being honest, and working together with God, and children seeing God's love and goodness in their parents.

Abstract

The aim of this research is mainly to know on how the Catholic Couples who live in rural areas in internalizing the marriage vows in the middle of applies the Qualitative method with purposive sampling couples at Saint Hilarius Parish - Klepu, age for marriage ranges from 5-15 years. The results of this research have shown that marriage vows being internalized as a holy bond, as moral and spiritual responsibility, as well as commitment and a lifelong faithfulness. Sosial media is used widely as a communication tool, mainly to keep bond when being far from each other and strengthening the relationship. However, social media also can give negative impact, such as to reduce quality direct interactions and as an opening potential to the temptation from outsider. In general, couples in this parish have a positive effort in internalizing their marriage vows with the awareness on the challenges in this digital era.

Abstract

St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya has an unique living because of instilling Vincentian values carried out through Vincentian Character Education. The valeus of St. Vincent A Paulo has been instilling namely humility, simplicity, gentleness, mortification and zeal for souls. This research aimed to explore the efforts to implement Vincentian Character Education as a local content at St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach. Research data collection was carried out using an individual interview tecnique. The research informants were the principal of the school and teachers who are teaching Character Education of Vincentian at St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya. The results of the research show that the implementation of Vincentian Character Education for students at St Louis 2 Catholic High School Surabaya is carried out through an active learning in the classroom as a separated subject of Character Education. The subject has three major points, namely planning, implementation and evaluation.
