Abstract

Character education is an educational program that instills good values. The development of the times has hurt the development of students' faith, this shows the failure of character education programs for students so families, communities, and schools must be made aware again of how important character education is for students. Many students are mired in negative things such as smoking, skipping classes, consuming alcohol and drugs, and even entangled in free sex. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of character education in the development of students' faith, efforts to implement character education that can develop Christian faith, and find out the factors that influence the development of students' faith. This study used a descriptive qualitative method, and data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interview, and documentation methods on 5 students and 2 teachers at SMPK Santo Yusuf Madiun. The results showed that the informants understood the role of character education as an effort to develop Christian faith. Character education is provided to provide character insight, understand moral values, and shape the personality of students. Efforts are made through habituation activities such as morning prayer, meditation, student mass, recollection, and other activities. Factors supporting the development of students' faith are parents, school activities, and supporting spiritual facilities. Inhibiting factors usually come from student awareness, social environment, and background.

Abstract

This study explores the involvement of adult parishioners in the Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word Celebration at St. Cecilia Basic Christian Community in Beribit, Paroki St. Eugeninus de Mazenod, Diocese of Tanjung Selor. The main objective of this research is to examine the factors affecting the low attendance of adult members in the celebration and to understand the underlying issues contributing to this phenomenon. The study highlights that the Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word Celebration is crucial for both the faith formation of the parishioners and the fostering of a pastoral spirit among adults. However, many adult members refrain from attending the service due to low awareness of its significance. This qualitative study uses structured interviews as its primary data collection method, with purposive sampling employed to select informants. Data analysis follows an inductive approach. The findings reveal that the low participation of adults is primarily due to a lack of understanding regarding the importance of the Liturgy of the Word Celebration and resistance to the involvement of lay leaders in the service.

Abstract

The purpose of writing this article is to make us aware as ideal disciples of Jesus amidst the onslaught of consumerism practices that permeate all aspects of human life. Becoming a disciple of Jesus is a calling that must be carried out totally and with full surrender. In today's era, to become a faithful disciple and be able to survive every challenge is very difficult. One of the trends that we are currently experiencing is the practice of consumerism that has seeped into the lower classes. Simultaneously, this culture of consumerism is contrary to the spirit of life as a disciple of Jesus that was passed down by Jesus directly to His disciples. Becoming a herald in this era is also very difficult because we are required to continue to live the lifestyle that was passed down directly by Jesus. In this article I want to present again the message of Jesus contained in the text Mark 6: 7-10, so that we become ideal heralds in the present and in the future.

Abstract

Student participation in the learning process can be influenced by learning media. Wordwall, as an interactive game-based learning, is considered capable of enhancing students' participation. This research aims to determine the influence of Wordwall media on the learning participation of grade V Catholic Religious Education students at Kristus Raja Catholic Elementary School, Surabaya. This study uses a pre-experimental method with a one-shot case study design. The population consists of grade V Catholic Religious Education students. The questionnaire's validity is tested using corrected item-total correlation, while reliability is measured with Cronbach Alpha. Data collection employs questionnaires and tests, analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon test using SPSS version 29. The results of the study indicate a positive influence of Wordwall media on students' learning participation. This is evident from the questionnaire scores, which increase from moderate to high levels, and a significance value of 0.002 smaller than 0.05, leading to the valid hypothesis. Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that using Wordwall media enhances the learning participation of grade V Catholic Religious Education students at Kristus Raja Catholic Elementary School, Surabaya.

Abstract

The research data was collected by using an individual interview approach, then research data analysis done by using an inductive approach. The results of the study indicate that the informants perceive the Legion of Mary as a group of Catholics who are always devoted and pray to Mother Mary regularly in order to develop and strengthen their faith in Jesus. The spirituality of the Legion of Mary lies in the spirit of prayer and devotion to Mother Mary as the Mother of Jesus and the obedient of Mary to God's will. The spirituality of the Legion of Mary is expressed through regular prayer activities as well as social and humanitarian service activities done by the legionaries.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of prayer traditions in Imatuka Prayer Garden on the spiritual development of Catholic Youth (OMK) at Santa Maria Lourdes Sumber Parish, Magelang. Using a mixed-method approach with convergent parallel design, the study collected quantitative data from 39 Catholic youth respondents and qualitative data through interviews with five key informants. Quantitative results showed significant positive correlations between prayer frequency and duration (R² = 0.324, p < 0.001), prayer experience intensity (R² = 0.288, p < 0.001), and prayer variety (R² = 0.395, p < 0.001) with youth spiritual development. Qualitative findings revealed that Imatuka Prayer Garden functions as a sacred space that facilitates personal reflection, spiritual connection, and community formation. The prayer garden's conducive environment for silence and connection with nature was highlighted as a key factor enabling deeper spiritual experiences. The research concludes that prayer traditions at Imatuka Prayer Garden significantly contribute to Catholic youth spiritual development in line with the Continuous Formatio of Faith (FIBB) framework of Semarang Archdiocese, particularly in strengthening faith identity, devotional practices, and ecclesial participation.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how Indigenous Catholic communities in Sanggau Regency embody and apply the values of Laudato Si’ in their daily lives, even without formal theological exposure to the document. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, this research examines the ecological practices, cultural beliefs, and community-based efforts of Indigenous people in conserving their natural environment. The findings reveal that traditional values-such as viewing forests as sacred, practicing rotational agriculture, and maintaining balance with nature demonstrate a lived expression of integral ecology. However, their efforts face significant challenges, including deforestation, land grabbing, economic marginalization, and lack of institutional support. This study underscores the importance of recognizing Indigenous communities not only as victims of ecological degradation but also as active agents of environmental stewardship. It recommends a stronger partnership between the Catholic Church and Indigenous communities through contextual ecological pastoral approaches that affirm cultural identity, ecological justice, and intergenerational sustainability.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which the parish community implements the Laudato Si’ movement through eco-enzyme activities as a form of ecological conversion, and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. Laudato Si’ is an encyclical that calls on humanity to care for our common home, grounded in both moral and scientific reasoning. In response, the parishioners of Pringwulung have adopted eco-enzyme practicesan environmentally friendly method of processing organic waste into beneficial productsas a concrete effort to live out ecological values. This qualitative field research employed methods such as active observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions (FGDs). The findings reveal that the parishioners are actively engaged and committed to implementing the Laudato Si’ movement through eco-enzyme practices. This is demonstrated by their consistent and effective participation. The study concludes that the people of Pringwulung Parish are striving to embody the spirit of ecological conversion in their daily lives through the simple yet meaningful act of transforming fruit and vegetable waste into eco-enzyme products.

Abstract

The Church as the People of God presupposes the active engagement of every member, especially within local communities such as parishes and stations. Women, as integral members of the Church, are likewise called to participate fully in parish life. This descriptive study examines the role of women in church ministry at the Maximilianus Maria Kolbe Parish specifically at the Landonanga Station in the Diocese of Ruteng by investigating the service tasks they perform, the significance of their ministries, parish responses to their contributions, how they understand their service as members of the People of God, and the sources of support that sustain their work. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews and document analysis. The findings reveal that women serve in parish and station leadership as committee members, although they have not yet assumed the highest council leadership position. They contribute across various parish commissions and engage in all five dimensions of church ministry liturgy, kerygma, diakonia, coinsonia, and martyria. Their service is positively received and acknowledged by both church authorities and the laity, yet they encounter challenges such as patriarchal cultural norms and the burden of dual responsibilities. The study concludes that while women already play a vital role in church ministry and enjoy considerable support, they continue to face significant obstacles. This research thus enriches our understanding of women's contributions to local church life, highlighting both the enablers and barriers that shape their ministry.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of teachers in fostering character education of the students at Saint Yusuf Catholic Elementary School, Madiun city. The research focused on the role of teachers as role models and mentors, their understanding of the values of discipline and responsibility, and the strategies used to foster the character of discipline and responsibility of the students. This study employs a qualitative approach with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation.The findings indicated that teachers actively participate in activities such as morning assemblies, communal prayers, recollections, religious events, and the reinforcement of positive habits. In these activities, teachers serve as examples and guide students to act with discipline and responsibility. Character education aims to develop students who are not only academically competent but also have strong character, faith, discipline, and a sense of responsibility.
