Abstract

Plantation commodities constitute an important sector in the Indonesian economy, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings through export activities. However, the prices of plantation commodities in international markets tend to fluctuate, which may affect trade stability and income generated from this sector. This study aims to analyze the export price volatility of Indonesia’s major plantation commodities, including crude palm oil (CPO), cocoa, coffee, and rubber, over the period 2015–2024. The study employs secondary data in the form of annual export prices, which are analyzed using a quantitative descriptive approach. Price volatility is measured using the standard deviation of annual price changes to determine the degree of price fluctuations for each commodity. The results indicate that export prices of the four commodities exhibit varying levels of fluctuation during the study period. Cocoa shows the highest level of price volatility, indicating that it experienced the most significant price fluctuations. In contrast, rubber exhibits the lowest level of volatility, suggesting relatively more stable prices, while CPO and coffee demonstrate moderate levels of volatility. These findings provide insights into the stability of export prices of Indonesian plantation commodities and may serve as a basis for policymakers and market participants in formulating price risk management strategies and trade policies in the plantation sector.

Abstract

This research, entitled “The Effect of Several Concentrations of Banana Corm Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) on the Growth and Yield of Soybean Plants (Glycine max L.)”, was carried out at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Muhammadiyah University of West Sumatra, from August 2024 to November 2024. The aim of this study was to determine the best concentration of banana corm LOF application on the growth and yield of soybean plants. The research used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 5 treatments and 4 groups, resulting in 20 experimental plots. Each plot contained 16 plants, with 3 plants used as samples. The treatments consisted of applying banana corm LOF concentrations of 0 ml/liter of water, 20 ml/liter of water, 40 ml/liter of water, 60 ml/liter of water, and 80 ml/liter of water. The observational data were averaged and statistically analyzed using the F-test at a 5% significance level, followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the same significance level. The observed parameters included plant height, number of pods per plant, seed weight per plant, seed weight per plot, seed weight per hectare, and the weight of 100 soybean seeds. The results of the study concluded that the application of 80 ml/liter of banana corm LOF was able to improve the growth and yield of soybean plants.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of market waste compost on the growth of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) seedlings and to determine the most effective dose in improving growth parameters. The study was conducted from March to July 2025 in Padang Rajo, Harau District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra. The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five market waste compost dosage treatments (0 g, 200 g, 300 g, 400 g, and 500 g per polybag) and five replications. The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, leaf width, leaf length, and stem diameter. The results showed that the application of market waste compost significantly affected seedling height, number of leaves, leaf length, and leaf width. A dose of 200 g produced the highest seedling height and leaf width, while a dose of 300 g produced the highest number and length of leaves. However, compost application did not significantly affect stem diameter. Too high a compost dosage actually tends to reduce growth effectiveness, possibly due to an imbalance of nutrients in the planting medium. Thus, the use of market waste compost in growing media has been proven effective in increasing the vegetative growth of cocoa seedlings when administered in the correct dosage.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the factors that influence farmer’s interest in sustainable coconut cultivation in Batang Anai District, Padang Pariaman Regency. The study sample consisted of 60 respondents who met the criteria of having at least 20 coconut trees and trees that were more than 25 years old. The method used was a survey with multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the variables of land area, price, harvest time, and maintenance influenced farmer’s interest by 63.3%, while other factors outside the scope of this study influenced the remaining 36.7%. The price factor had a negative influence, meaning that price changes could either decrease or increase farmers' interest. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for local governments in developing strategic programs to improve selling prices and marketing efficiency, thereby ensuring the sustainability of coconut cultivation.
