Abstract

The demand for fuel oil is increasing day by day, resulting in the depletion of oil and gas reserves in Indonesia. Rice husk waste biomass and low-density polyethylene plastic are wastes that can be utilized as alternative fuel sources by pyrolysis method. Pyrolysis is the process of burning organic and synthetic materials in conditions of little or no oxygen by utilizing heat from high temperature combustion. Pyrolysis method processing requires a heater to burn the material during the process. Efforts that can be made are the use of biomass stoves as the right solution because of the availability of abundant and cheap raw materials, biomass stoves can also provide solutions to reduce the impact of environmental pollution smoke. The purpose of this study was to determine the temperature produced by the biomass stove and the effect of the comparison of the composition of the biomass mixture of rice husk waste and low density polyethylene plastic waste on the quantity of pyrolysis oil. This research uses experimental method with quantitative descriptive analysis technique. This research was conducted by pyrolyzing a mixture of rice husk biomass waste and low density polyethylene plastic waste with variations in composition ratio of 0%:100%, 25%:75%, 50%:50%, 75%:25%, and 100%:0%. The pyrolyzed oil was then filtered and tested for quantity. The test results show that the biomass stove can be used as a heater in a pyrolysis device with a capacity of 4 kg of coconut shell briquettes. The use of coconut shell briquettes as fuel has the advantage of being able to produce higher heat and last longer than charcoal. The biomass stove can produce the highest pyrolysis temperature reaching 665.5°C at the bottom, 541°C in the middle, and 430.3°C at the top. There is an effect of variation in the composition of the mixture of rice husk waste and low-density polyethylene plastic waste on the quantity of pyrolysis oil. The composition of more rice husk waste compared to low density polyethylene plastic waste produces less quantity of pyrolysis oil, while the comparison of the composition of more low density polyethylene plastic waste compared to rice husk waste produces pyrolysis oil with more quantity. This can be seen from the quantity of pyrolysis oil produced ranging from 265 ml to 853.3 ml.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the economic engineering aspects of predictive maintenance implementation in the manufacturing industry using a systematic literature review (SLR) approach. Literature searches were conducted through five databases, namely Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore, SpringerLink, and Emerald, using keywords related to predictive maintenance, manufacturing industry, engineering economy, cost-benefit analysis, return on investment, payback period, and life cycle cost. The article selection process followed the PRISMA 2020 framework and resulted in 25 final articles from 250 articles identified in the initial search. The findings show that predictive maintenance in manufacturing is commonly implemented through machine learning, IoT sensor monitoring, vibration analysis, digital twin, and condition-based monitoring. From an economic engineering perspective, these implementations contribute to downtime reduction, lower emergency maintenance costs, improved asset reliability, and better investment efficiency. However, most studies remain dominated by technical performance evaluation, while comprehensive economic indicators such as ROI, NPV, IRR, payback period, life cycle cost, and cost-benefit analysis are still limited. This study highlights the need to integrate technical performance and economic feasibility analysis in predictive maintenance decision-making.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze differences in thermal properties, including thermal stability and the change in melting temperature (Tm) on variations in the mass fraction of fiber in mPP/bamboo fiber composite materials. Disposable face mask waste or mask polypropylene (mPP) is used as a polymer matrix and bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) fiber as a composite reinforcement. The method used in this research is experimental. Variations in the mass fraction of bamboo fiber used were 0%, 4%, 8%, and 12%. Size of the bamboo fiber used is 5 mesh and has been treated with 5% NaOH alkali for 2 hours. The composite manufacture consists of two stages, namely the manufacture of mPP/bamboo fiber fragments by melting mask waste that has been mixed with bamboo fiber using an oven at 180°C for 2 hours. In the second stage, the mPP/bamboo fiber fragments were processed using an extruder machine with a processing temperature of 150°C and a screw speed of 25 rpm. Composite specimens measuring 2 x 2 x 2 mm with a weight of 1 to 10 mg were tested by TGA and DSC using a temperature of 25 to 900°C with a heating speed of 10°C/min in an oxygen atmosphere. The results of the thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) test showed that the neat mask polypropylene (mPP) without bamboo fiber reinforcement had the best thermal stability compared to other fiber mass fractions. The results of the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) test showed that the mPP/0% bamboo fiber had the best melting temperature (Tm) at a temperature of 156.16˚C compared to other fiber mass fractions in the temperature range of 155°C to 156°C.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in gamma ray dose on the physical and mechanical properties of natural fiber reinforced polymer blend composites. The method used in this research is experimental. This research was conducted on polymer blend composites, namely recycled High Density Polyethylene (rHDPE) and recycled Polypropylene (rPP) with bamboo fiber reinforcement with variations in gamma ray doses of 0 kGy, 25 kGy, 50 kGy, and 75 kGy. Bamboo is processed using a crusher into fibers with a size of 40 mesh and treated with 5% NaOH alkali for 10 minutes then dried using oven for 24 hour at a temperature of 105 °C to remove lignin contained in bamboo fibers. The composite was made using two machines, namely an extrusion machine with a heater temperature of 175 °C, 180 ºC, 185 ºC, and 190 ºC with a screw speed of 25 rpm. Then the injection molding machine with a temperature of 220 ºC with a specimen mold temperature of 90 ºC and an injection pressure of about 45 bar for 20 minutes. Gamma ray treatment was carried out after making the specimen before testing. Where a gamma cell irradiator is used and as a source of gamma rays, cobalt-60 (Co-60) is used. Tensile and water absorption tests are used to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the composite material according to ASTM D638 type V and ASTM D570-98 standards. The test results showed that the higher the dose used, the lower the physical and mechanical properties of the composite. The highest tensile strength was found at the 25 kGy dose treatment of 13.68 MPa and the lowest at the 75 kGy dose treatment. The lowest water content absorption and thickness expansion after 144 hours of immersion were at a 50 kGy gamma dose of 3.43% and 1.27%, respectively. Meanwhile, the highest condition was found at the 75 kGy gamma ray dose of 3.79% and 1.42%, respectively.
